Friday: Severe Weather predicted - Midwest - Southeast

I'm worried about my best friend. She is under a Tornado Warning right now that should be ending soon. She is in Kentucky at College. Last I knew they were in the basement she was going to shut her phone off to save battery but I am waiting to hear from her to know she is OK. :-/

ETA: Looks like the warning was extended until 6:45.

I live in Cincy. No damage where I live at all. What a scary day though. It is heartbreaking to be watching the news and seeing that people have died. They just showed a video of the tornado in Holton, IN. It was huge. They were talking to a man who lives in northern Ky and he was picking up checks with Indiana addresses in his yard. Anyone still in the paths of these storms needs to take shelter now.

It missed me. There are reports that one tornado touched down in my county, bad in one town. Another touchdown in a neighbor county.
TV is saying 3 dead in the Cincy tristate area.

ETA names I am hearing with major damages is Moscow Ohio and Holton Ind. both small towns. One of the fatalities was in Holton.

ETA Piner Ky major damage

Okay back. For everyone watching for news about Ft. Campbell. Son finally texted. He says everything is okay. Might be some roofs torn off homes in town but looks like everything is okay. Not from news, from his text so take it as such please.

Just some reading for later. This happened in 1974. It was horrific back then. I remember that day clearly and some moments during that day with complete recall of particulars and I don't remember a lot of my childhood. So that is saying something.

Just to read later and review after these storms are over.

Cincy area. Death toll 4. TV weather is saying there were multiple tornados and they were on the ground for some time. Reports that two dead in Holton Ind, one dead in Piner Ky, one dead in Felicity Ohio. Towns reporting major damage are small. Moscow Ohio, Holton Ind. and Piner Ky.

The Moscow Ohio site has a power plant. I've just been told (by a relative) that there may be damage there, but I haven't seen that reported on TV. It is a coal fired plant.

Storms are over here. Now they are into search and rescue and damage assessment.

The storms are horrific here in Hamilton County and most of midlle and South East Tennessee.Tornadoes, Golf ball size hail..And another strong cell of storms expected to come through tonight.

Several stories of survival, one being a school bus driver who, alerted by a child, turned the bus around, went back to the elementary school, and got cover there. All are safe. I believe this was near Henrysville.

However, Henrysville's also reporting some serious damage to another school (I think High?).

Just saw some video that would make me scream in terror, and I don't scream easily...from Tennessee, a wall cloud/debris cloud heading towards a Micky D's. I think I'd've died in my car if I saw that. Literally.

They are saying that there have been more than 75 reports of tornados today, which rivals the super breakout that Kat's been referencing, and also is the total amount of tornados in the average March.

I am praying for everyone.

I'm so glad you are okay so far, Emeradgem!!! :blowkiss:

My family is fine right now - we still have power and our house is fine. One tornado touched down today just three miles north of where I live in the Hwy 58 area and Snowhill. We just got rain and I didn't know about the tornado until my daughter texted me. Then they let school out for the rest of the day - thank God it didn't hit any of the schools in the area, but it came really close.

They said on the news that several boats at the Lakeshore Marina were destroyed or sank, and my son has friends from high school whose houses were badly damaged. Several churches were opening as shelters, such as Bayside on 58.

There's trouble in Bradley and Polk County, too - trailers blown around and trees down. We saw a huge rotation as the storm passed over White Oak Mt after one storm, and the lightning was incredible. I can only imagine what people east of here are experiencing.

We had some golf ball sized hail and it covered the ground like snow. I don't even know all the damage because the news crews haven't been able to get around and see everything yet. We've either been glued to the TV or huddled in the bathroom with blankets over our heads. Everyone has post traumatic stress from last year, and we are reliving it tonight.

I dread this last line coming out of Alabama, too. :( I'm praying it will die down a little or split up.

ATLANTA: "you have about an hour before you are in danger. Take cover now." Something going on n. of Atlanta right now.

Per theweatherchannel on TV.

~Something south of Nashville with lightening.
~Tupelo MISS cleared
~East Alabama under tornado watch until at least midnight.
~Canton/Koch/Madison OH in the path of something now.
~Cherokee, Cobb and ? GA, now.
~Birmingham/Atlanta now to midnight
~Knoxville now until midnight (?) maybe later.
~Kennesaw, Roswell GA in line (all of N Atlanta?)

Updating
~Hook signature headed towards New Hope and Dallas, may be double circulation. (I believe this is GA, unsure).
~Knoxville less than an hour before storm cell hits (est: 9:52 pm). Areas west of Knoxville be on alert NOW.
~Raleigh NC (and surrounding area) 2am to 6 am storms are expected, torcon high.

(TORCON means TORnado CONfidence, meaning the higher the number on scale of 1-10, more likely to see a tornado. Several TORCON 10s forecasted today, and lots of 9's are still outstanding).

Danger is increasing because of night falling; tornados always more dangerous at night because no one can see them. Take all precautions now for night time needs.

Now reporting that 4 confirmed dead in Holton Ind.
Current death toll for the tristate area at 6.

ETA 7 patients from Holton Ind have been taken to the area hospital in critical condition.

That means that in this one small town, they have 4 dead and 7 critical.

ETA Holton, Indiana
The population was 480 at the 2010 census.
