Her boyfriend, 43-year-old Brandon Wineinger, faces charges including kidnapping, tampering with evidence, first degree burglary and false statements.

"Wineinger was interviewed at police headquarters and over the course of the interview, made several statements that were proven to be false," a Brookhaven statement said, which only referenced his charges of false statements and tampering with evidence.

Wineinger was in court on Monday where the additional charges were read. It's not clear what led to the additional charges. He was not eligible for bond because of a previous conviction for aggravated assault.

Wineinger is being held at the DeKalb County Jail.

Police have arrested a man in relation to a woman who vanished on Friday.

On Sunday, Brookhaven Police began their investigation into the disappearance of Aimee Lafakis, 48.

According to officials, Lafakis was reported missing by family members on Friday, Sept. 29.

She was last contacted at 2 a.m. on Friday.

On Sunday, Brookhaven investigators were notified by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office that a woman’s body was found on Drowning Creek Road in Gwinnett County.

Officials confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that the remains were of Lafakis.

Monday morning, Brookhaven investigators announced that they had interviewed multiple family members and individuals close to her.

Although the investigation is ongoing, authorities have arrested Brandon Wineinger due to the investigation but not directly relating to the disappearance of Lafakis.

According to jail records, Wineinger is facing charges of tampering with evidence, kidnapping, false statements or writings, and burglary.

The area she was found is actually Dacula. Strangely enough, it's very close (same road almost) where Susana Morales was found earlier this year, the teen that was murdered and dumped by a Doraville police officer.

I actually grew up very close by and we'd explore those woods as kids. I hate that they're a representation of multiple deaths now.

I kind of feel bad about pressing like on your comment because it's so sad. But, I appreciate you sharing this information.

I have been to a lot or near a lot of the places near where Aimee lived as well as where she was found. I was mostly driving (i would get lost a lot), but many of the areas look and sound familiar from when i lived in Georgia.

A lot them are actually fairly nice areas (or they were, i have not been back to Georgia in years). But, when a murderer comes into someone's life, bad things can happen in good places.

I haven’t been to Brookhaven, but our daughter moved to the Atlanta area for her job two years ago. She and her husband loved Brookhaven and ended up buying a house there. I’ve gotten the impression that it’s very nice. The apartment complex Aimee lived in looks lovely. But as you say, bad things happen in good places. Unfortunately, Aimee met up with the wrong guy. I feel heartbroken for her family and friends. This is such a tragedy. :-(

Thank you for your kind comment. I have heard Brookhaven is a very nice area from someone who goes to Georgia frequently.

I don't know this for a fact, but I would not be surprised if Aimee's apartment had a security gate. I need to look into that because when I lived in a gated apartment it had cameras.

Brookhaven police department posted a long write up about Aimee. The individual in custody is facing a long list of charges in DeKalb County. He will also face charges in Gwinnett County. He is not eligible for bail due to his record. Therefore, he is currently being held in DeKalb County jail.

This is politely as i can phrase this.

I don't have Facebook. So, if it is possible to bring over the posting the police made, i would greatly appreciate it.

It turns out Aimee has two daughters who are now deprived of a mother. As i said, the person I know no longer lives in Georgia. So, he didn't know until recently.
