Amanda Gail Peeples, who also goes by Amanda Burnam, walked away from the apartment on Sherwood Drive about noon Dec. 16. She has not returned since, according to a news release Thursday from the Peach County Sheriff's Office.bbm

A Byron woman who left her apartment in mid-December told her roommate she was going to catch a ride to Macon.

The 37-year-old was last seen wearing a T-shirt, jeans and multi-colored shoes. Her cell phone, purse, dog and identification were left in the apartment.bbm

Peeples' roommate told police that she has a history of leaving without notice, but has never been gone this long without calling a friend, the news release said.

Not sure if this is Amanda or not?

In Peach County, a mystery deepened Monday as investigators try to identify a person found dead in a shed.

Back in December, a woman went missing from a home just a few feet away from the shed. But so far, the GBI cannot confirm that the body is that of the missing woman.

Just two months later, the sheriff’s office found a body in a shed back behind the same house.

Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese says they got a call Friday from the house's landlord about a strong smell coming from the shed.

13WMAZ’s Mary Grace Shaw spoke with the landlord, Eddie Alderman, who says his brother was mowing his lawn next door when he smelled something.

Alderman says he and his wife walked over to the shed, found a body under a blanket and called the sheriff’s office.

WMAZ asked Deese if investigators looked in the shed after Peeples was first reported missing.

He says he assumes investigators would have looked in the shed, but he is not sure if they did.

Alderman says a detective did look through the shed about three weeks ago, and that three-other people were living in the house.

Sheriff Deese says they are investigating the people in the house and others in the area.

Deese says the GBI is looking at marks on the body and trying to rundown Peeples' next of kin.

He says he is not sure how long the DNA test will take to confirm whether it is Peeples.

A DNA test will determine if a body discovered decomposing in the back of a cluttered warehouse in Byron Friday evening is that of a woman who was reported missing in December.
"We're hoping its her," Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese said of the 37-year-old woman who hasn't been seen since she left home three months ago.
Amanda Peeples, who also goes by the last name Burnam, was reported missing Dec. 19 by her roommate, David Arrington.
Arrington told investigators he last saw Peeples about noon Dec. 16 when she walked outside to wait for a ride from someone to go to Macon, according to the initial incident report.
Arrington also said she was "very intoxicated from alcoholic beverages and (Xanax) prescription medication and was not acting herself," the deputy noted in the report.

BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks says results of the autopsy conducted on a body found in Byron were inconclusive.
“They did not determine the cause and manner of death. That’s pending toxicology and some other things and we are not 100% sure if it’s Amanda Peeples I feel like it is but we can’t be 100% sure,” Rooks told 41NBC.

Rooks says there were no visible signs of what could’ve caused the woman’s death. The GBI is now trying to get medical records together to try and identify the body found.

[h=1]Roommates charged after body found in shed behind home[/h]
FORT VALLEY, Ga. (AP) — Two roommates of a Georgia woman reported missing in December now face charges of concealing a death after a body was found in a shed behind their home.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is still working to identify the body and the cause of death, so Peach County Sheriff Terry Deese said he can't say if it's a homicide case. But he tells The Telegraph of Macon that he's "99.9 percent" sure the body found Jan. 23 is the missing 37-year-old Amanda Peeples.

Sixty-year-old David Earl Arrington and 35-year-old Lee Michael Rodriquez also are charged with evidence tampering and providing false statements. Arrington reported Peeples missing. The body was found after the landlord's wife said she smelled an odor. It's unclear if Arrington and Rodriquez have lawyers.
