howdy! My grandad's folks were from Waycross :) Miss him dearly, and his Aunt Ludelle and her home cooking.

Howdy! I miss Georgia and would love to move back someday. :)

Please note that I put the word "trash" in parenthesis. I was quoting the word from the post I answered. I do not consider any of thecriticism I made or anyone else made of these "ladies" to be anything other than a curate summations of their character and morality.

we are on the same page in our opinion of these "ladies" and what they did. Please don't take offense as that was what my post was meant to convey.

ETA while gently reminding that to quote the post that offends is to give it longer legs. As does debating the topic. Obviously my objective was not clear and for that my apologies.

Goonie, I didn't have "a point." Posters were discussing Mr. Gough and I was advising them where they could get more info and what little info I had been told.

I was contributing to the conversation...which I think is allowed on WS.

I appreciate the information. I was curious about Mr. Goughs background.

Plus I'm nosy by nature. ;)

I am originally from Tennessee but have moved to Georgia by way of Alabama. Can I just say--I miss my mountain home VERY MUCH but of all the places in the South I have lived, Georgia has the BEST food?? Fried green tomatoes, FTW!!! :rocker:

Plus, Georgia is MUCH more integrated than Tennessee or Alabama. My current neighbors are black, Korean, Japanese, Pakistani, and Yankees (bless their hearts!). :floorlaugh: Honestly, though, I like this blend of cultures. And I will say that NO ONE I know thinks shooting a baby in the face is in any way acceptable.

Latest article I can find.

"There is some information that is somewhat gang related, but it does not yet lend itself to conclude that is gang related activity or motivated," Doering said.

The investigation is widening, as multiple law enforcement agencies are trying to figure out how and why this happened.

bbm

He is possibly referring to DE's facebook page. I don't think he was in any gang. Just a 🤬🤬🤬🤬 with aspirations.

thank you Hickory Born, something new to chew on ;)

Public Defender Kevin Gough, who is representing Elkins, has requested West's medical records.

"She might have been suffering from delusions or hallucinations at or around the times of these events and that might affect her ability to recall events accurately," Gough said.

I know Gough has to give this a shot (thanks to the door Ms. Glassy opened) but I do believe strongly that at this juncture, he needs to be working the mitigation angle.

IMO, DE has clearly come from a very dysfunctional background, as Gough hinted at in a statement made the other day. I think he needs to be pursuing that angle more fully. I would be throwing mama from the train (or under the bus) at this point. I'd be preppping to potray DE as a product of his environment, homeless at points, mom and aunt with long log history of criminal activities, in and out of jail, kid never had adequate supervision, raised by the streets. etc. etc.

Before ya'll start chuckin maters (even fried green ones)

I enjoy playing devils advocate at times. If I were a defense attorney dealing with this one, that is what I would be thinking about now.

Mr. Gough can't get a preliminary hearing until next week so he hasn't gotten any discovery yet. When he sees all the evidence against his client I think he will change his strategy dramatically. Has anyone heard anything else about a video yet?

not being argumentative but whether they were sanctioned card carrying members of the bloods or not they fit the criteria for the federal government's definition of gang.

Federal definition. The federal definition of gang as used by the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is [1]:
An association of three or more individuals;
Whose members collectively identify themselves by adopting a group identity, which they use to create an atmosphere of fear or intimidation, frequently by employing one or more of the following: a common name, slogan, identifying sign, symbol, tattoo or other physical marking, style or color of clothing, hairstyle, hand sign or graffiti;
Whose purpose in part is to engage in criminal activity and which uses violence or intimidation to further its criminal objectives.
Whose members engage in criminal activity or acts of juvenile delinquency that if committed by an adult would be crimes with the intent to enhance or preserve the association's power, reputation or economic resources.
The association may also possess some of the following characteristics:
The members may employ rules for joining and operating within the association.
The members may meet on a recurring basis.
The association may provide physical protection of its members from others.
The association may seek to exercise control over a particular geographic location or region, or it may simply defend its perceived interests against rivals.
The association may have an identifiable structure.

A rose by any other name . . .

MOO

I think that the first shooting and attempted robbery by DE and 2 other unknown youths followed by the shooting and murder this past week by DE and DL would qualify as gang activity when viewed along with their other behaviors and how DE has chosen to present himself as a gang member.

They fit this definition of gang adopted by some states as well

State definition. A number of states use the following definition of gang, often with minor modifications (this definition was originally devised by the California legislature):
"criminal street gang' means any ongoing organization, association or group of three or more persons, whether formal or informal, having as one of its primary activities the commission of one or more of the criminal acts [...], having a common name or common identifying sign or symbol, and whose members individually or collectively engage in or have engaged in a pattern of criminal gang activity."[2]

Walks like a duck talks like a duck MOO

We will have to see if this proves out when more arrests come (hopefully of the persons responsible for the first shooting and robbery attempt with DE). I feel pretty confident that there is robbery, theft and drug dealing going on with a group of individuals surrounding DE and that time will bring more about that.

Ticya, I totally agree. I think Gough is barking up the wrong tree.

For those who do not live in Georgia, the jury makeup and judgements can be as different as night and day...all depends on the county where the trial is held.

He really is grasping. She seemed pretty detailed in her comments to the media about how the events unfolded.
The judge should put a stop against his speaking to the media.

It is my understanding the prosecutor doesn't have to release all evidence until 10 days before trial. Does anyone know this for a fact?
