The mother should have been charged too. Absurdly neglectful, dysfunctional parents, the both of them.
So a school adminstrator is testifying now that the school sent emails, made phone calls, and sent certified letters in relation to school absences to both parents and no response. Wow.

Edited to add - Sounds like when he finally made himself available to the school there were several meetings/contact between the school and the defendant to discuss setting Colt up for success.

People go to jail for their children’s truancy! Yet Colt missed a full year of school and he didn’t even have to “repeat” the grade.

The school seems ON TOP OF IT though. It's nice to hear how persistent the school was in trying to help Colt. I didn't know they allowed him to pass the grade with so many absences. I edited my post by the way to be fair to the defendant - it sounds like he did meet with the school several times and he asked them to address the sporadic instances of bullying, which the school did.

The evidence is coming in piecemeal and so far we haven't seen anything that rises to the level of these charges. The opening statement was really good and I guess I expected that by this point of the trial the state would've made a lot of inroads into the defendant's culpability. He seemed so cooperative in that bodyworn camera of the first visit with LE asking about threats made by Colt on Discord. Almost TOO cooperative. Typical of abusers. They often tend to be obsequious to authority figures. He was giving too much information without even being asked. It seemed like a subtle misdirection of the main issue.

Defense keeps bringing up the dark web. Not sure what this has to do with the case.

They're done for the day.

On the day of the shooting, Marcee Gray testified Colin Gray told her he’d received “strange text messages” from their son.

“Reading the text messages, I could tell there was a tone to it,” she testified. “They were short … they weren’t normal Colt texts. You could tell something was not right.”

Colt texted his mother saying, “Acute mania sucks.”

His mother responded: “Acute mania is no joke.”

The texts go on to show Marcee texting her son: “But your dad mentioned that you were talking about acute mania last week. So I’ve been reading more about it since then.”

At 9:50 a.m., Marcee Gray said she spoke with Colt Gray’s guidance counselor, who said her son had just asked his first period teacher about active shooter drills.

“‘We need to cut this phone call off right now and y’all need to go locate my son and find out what’s going on,’” Marcee Gray said she told the counselor. She said she emphasized Colt Gray had access to firearms.

“I couldn’t hear urgency in her voice, and I said, ‘I need you to take this seriously; I need you to put down what you’re doing and go find him,’” Marcee Gray testified.

I was finding Marcee credible all the way until the Google searches in her phone. She searched the Ethan Crumbley parents case!! She said it was because she and Colt had watched some documentary about it and she was curious to know more. Then the prosecutor nails her with, “why were you searching about why the parents were arrested if you had watched a documentary?” She had no good answer.

Then the last question from the state on redirect was whether she was searching those things because her and Colin were worried about their own liability and were discussing it. Marcee says she doesn’t remember. She was vague in this line of questioning in general.

It seemed to me she was protecting Colin and herself. They both knew!!! What a crock of poo! Wow
