McCray went for a walk on Dugdown Road where she lives Saturday evening around 6. Romero says she liked to go for walks every day, even as dementia was setting in.

"It's normal for her to go for a walk so we didn't think anything of it," said Romero.

Update on the Search for Barbara McCray

As of 17:45, the Command Post set up at Dugdown Baptist Church has been terminated. After three days of searching with over two hundred plus trained emergency service personnel and volunteers, we have located no sign of Mrs. McCray.

Search parties combed over two thousand meters of mountainous terrain, train tracks, buildings, and from above, with no sighting of Mrs. McCray. This search effort was very organized, and meticulous, with no area left uncovered.

We pulled resources from State and Local jurisdictions to include Helicopters, Drones, and watercraft.

The investigation, which has been ongoing this entire time, is still active and everchanging. We will continue to work this case until we have exhausted every lead possible. We would like to thank the community (people who have volunteered, brought food / drinks), and all of the other agencies who assisted us. We are forever grateful for your help.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Bowman (#810) at (678) 246-5107.

With search suspended, police push out information on missing Polk County woman

The frustration was evident in Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd’s voice.

But after three days with no trace of the 83-year-old grandmother, he and his department made the decision to suspend the official search.

What law enforcement know:
•known to be in pretty good shape and would walk often, either to visit nearby relatives or just to get outside.
•last known to be wearing a pink shirt, grey shorts and grey Nike tennis shoes
•also has early onset dementia
July 31
•was last seen near her home on Dugdown Road in Polk County near the Haralson County line that evening walking toward U.S. 27.
Aug. 01
•family reported her missing that morning
•huge show of resources was ready to go by 1 p.m., staged at Dugdown Baptist Church just down the road from McCray’s home
The Search
•LE have only received three tips, each of which were later proven not to be her
•The search itself included over 200 trained emergency service personnel and volunteers, search and rescue teams with trained dogs
•Georgia State Patrol and the Department of Natural Resources provided helicopters
•the use of drones equipped with Forward Looking Infrared Radar flown at night, but no heat signatures that would have been McCray were found
Theories
•LE is keeping the possibility open that she was picked up by someone driving along the nearby highway, especially if she made it to 27.
•LE doesn’t suspect foul play
•LE stated she could still be in the area, and family members have said they intend to continue searching for her, but they were advised that it is difficult to find people this time of the year with grass and brush growing high.

At 30, he received his first lengthy prison sentence after he was convicted of assaulting a Medfield woman at her home on Aug. 5, 1957. Anderson was wearing women’s clothing and a stocking over his face and carrying a rifle when he attacked the woman.

She told police he threw a cloth over her head and bound her wrists before fleeing into the nearby woods.

Eric H. Anderson was convicted of attacking a Medfield woman in her home on Aug. 5, 1957.

Anderson was arrested several days later. Nagle said when police asked him why he chose to dress like a woman that day, Anderson replied, “Because if neighbors saw me, they wouldn’t think anything of it.”

Anderson was sentenced to life in prison, but his term was reduced, and he was released in 1974.
