Found Safe GA - Blaise Barnett, 1, sitting in car when stolen, later found abandoned, Clarkston, 10 Nov 2021

Argh! Not another baby. We have had so many lately. I pray my hinky meter is off track.

Ugghh not another sweet little toddler missing. My mind is going exactly where many of your minds are going. Not good! Vague description of what this baby was wearing. So the baby's father saw someone walking around at that time of night and left a baby in the car with groceries and doors unlocked. Hmm that's one trusting Dad. JMO

And keys in the car.

You don't do that anywhere in Metro Atlanta if you have any sense. I'm sorry. Even if this plays out like the parents said it did.

There is no where here I would feel safe leaving my child in a car, outside of an apartment at 1 a.m. in the morning.

Been there, off a sketchy section of Buford Highway when my oldest was born. And a shorter walk from where we parked to our front door.

I wouldn't really feel comfortable in most neighborhoods... although I'm sure I left them sleeping in the driveway while I carried groceries into the house.

But never an apartment complexes at 1 a.m.

It makes no sense to me.

So many red flags here…grocery shopping at 1am (there are no nearby stores open at that hour, according to Google) with a one-year-old baby? Leaving the baby in the car unattended, with the keys still in the vehicle? The car turning up nearby, with no baby? Heartbreaking. :(

Oh no..... a car thief isn't going to want the burden of taking a toddler. IMO

Yes, this! IMO most car thieves will and have abandoned stolen cars when they realized there was a baby or child sitting in the back. My hinky meter is going off...

Is this normal practice to take children grocery shopping at 1.00 am? Not judging but.....what??
This is my question as well. I’m raising my grandson who is almost 2 and never in a million years would I go out grocery shopping at this time.

Why would a teenager take the baby with him? Surely he would have been more likely to stop the car and do a runner, when he realised the baby was there.

Whoever took the car practically did do a runner, so to speak. The car was found less than two miles from where it was taken, see map. If it was a 15 or 16 year old boy who took the Explorer, he likely did not realize Blaise was in the car until it was too late. The question is, would he have removed him from the car and taken him to someone? Are those people aware of the circumstances and are now having a oh-🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 moment? Hopefully they can leave him somewhere and make an anonymous tip line call.

Mom says they got home, she went upstairs. Blaise's Dad grabbed their nephew and a couple of bags out of the car and went into the house. They were just making a quick trip into the house, they were still able to see the car. Dad was only in the house 30 seconds, he came back out and the car was gone.

Two points.

We don't know when the grocery shopping happened. If it was non perishable stuff, it could have easily been that morning. We just know they supposedly got home and unloaded at 1 a.m.

Second, completely honest. When my girls were young (we had 2 under 2)... there were plenty of times grocery shopping happened late at night. Not all the time... but between both being crappy sleepers, work schedules, helping care for other family members... we got it done when we could.

It's not the 1 a.m. grocery trip that bothers me. It's all the rest of it, together.

Not to mention shopping late at night can often be a lot easier than during the day.

Not the typical way it pans out when a car is stolen with a child inside.

Only reason I can think of is because it was chilly and he worried about leaving the kid?

I mean.... open gas station. Note on window. Run like hell.

Interview with Blaise's Mum early this morning.

Reporter

Can you tell us what took place? Take us through the moment.

Mum
I got back in front of my house right here, we parked right here. Maybe around like 1.06, 1.10. I went in the house first went upstairs, Blaise's dad had grabbed our nephew out the car and just a couple of bags that we had. He just was making a quick trip, you know to the house, because it's right there. So the car....we were able to still see the car. Maybe 30 seconds he was in there. He came, you know, tried to come back to get Blaise and then Blaise wasn't out here. The car wasn't either.

Reporter
The car....you said you guys could still see the car, so much so that you could even see the person walking by, the teenager as you're describing him, who you believe stole the vehicle. Tell us more about him?

Mum
Yeah, so Blaise's dad seen the boy walking right here in front of like the bus stop, or something right there, and you know he didn't think nothing of it. It's just a lot of kids walking around here. Sometimes they walk late and stuff like that, so he didn't think nothing of it, but you know, he just kinda put 2 and 2 together and knew like at the moment he seen that boy and now the car's gone so, you know.

Reporter
And you describe him right about 16 years old?

Mum
Probably yeah, 15...16 years old. He had on like black pants, a black jacket with yellow and green squares and black shoes.

Reporter
What was Blaise wearing?

Mum
Blaise was wearing blue socks and he was wearing a, like a, like a shirt that's like cut out like this, like a tank. And it's like green, some blue in there, some grey and it has like designs on it, like animals or something.

Reporter
This is obviously such a difficult time for you and your entire family. Take us through the moments after finding out exactly what happened. You called your family, called 911 and tell us how you feel?

Mum
Yeah, I called 911, called my family and we all did like a search. Well I...me and Blaise's dad stayed here and just kept walking up and down this street. The rest of my family they went everywhere around to look for him, and stuff like that.

Reporter
And there's a very important message that you and your family have for whoever stole your vehicle...what is that? Are you guys gonna press charges, or what do you all want to say to that person?

Mum
No we don't want to press charges. We just want you to bring our baby back, that's all....(mum struggles with her emotions at this point). If you have him still in the car just keep him warm, you know...bring him back. We don't wanna press charges, anything like....I just want him back in my arms, that's all.

Reporter
Last question, again thanks so much for talking to us. A lot of times those folks get those alerts, those amber alerts and they just ignore them. So folks in this community right now who have that amber alert on their phone, with all the information that they need to help find Blaise, what would you say to them?

Mum
Please don't ignore it. Please stay woke, stay alive today. Just please look out, if you see anything, please just contact us, somebody or something.

Reporter
And describe your vehicle one last time.

Mum
It's a 2002, Ford Explorer and it's silver, grey.
