Sounds like a guy who didn't understand reality too much.
Now he's God's to deal with !

Glad this didn't turn out like the situation in NY.

this man lost everything

TV, phone service, and Internet isn't 'everything'. They aren't basic human needs to survive. His house being foreclosed on sucks sure, but a person can live there still for a good bit before being kicked out. Save money in that time... couple thousand gives you rent for an apt...

Nothing reported should have led to hostages being taken.

I am not going to say that the way he went about it was okay. Its certainly was not. I just wish he could have been taken alive. I have this horrid gut feeling this man lost everything and snapped. Not making excuses for him by no mean. IMHO

IMO what he wanted was suicide by cop. He lured them, he took action he wasn't reacting. He didn't ask for the foreclosure to be halted, he only asked for the utilities to be turned on. He didn't choose to go to the loan office or utility offices and pull the gun. He chose to lure in firefighters, the people most usually thought of as heroic, and people totally unrelated to his predicament.

No I don't think he snapped. He got just what he wanted.
