A progression drawing of Brenda as she might look today.

“She had [the kids] when she was pretty young,” Frances told Dateline. “She struggled for a bit, but I ended up raising all three of the kids.”

They all lived in Nicholson, Georgia, until Brenda and Jimmy got divorced, at which point Brenda moved about 15 miles away to Athens, Georgia. While there, Brenda got married to a man named Eugene Edmondson. According to Frances, Brenda and Eugene moved into a room they rented from Brenda’s uncle.

“I don't remember a whole lot from that time,” Brenda’s daughter Michelle told Dateline about Brenda’s presence in her childhood, though she says her mother Brenda did come often to visit.

On January 12, 1987, Frances says that Brenda, in her early twenties and suffering from epilepsy, came over after being released from the hospital.

“She had just had a seizure and came home from the hospital with medicine,” Frances told Dateline. “That was the last time I ever saw her.”

Frances says that night, Brenda went to a convenience store to buy cigarettes. She never returned.

Brenda’s husband Eugene told Frances that she was last seen at the convenience store with cigarettes. According to Michelle, who was six when her mother disappeared, Eugene reported Brenda missing to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department a couple of days after she was last seen at the convenience store.

“At the present time we are trying to locate the original case files,” Public Information officer Geoffrey Gilland with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department told Dateline. He added that Athens-Clarke County Police Department was unable to comment further on this report.

I sent a possible match for Brenda to the Detective listed on her NamUs profile. I wanted to know if they compared Brenda to Shotgun Jane Doe found in Knoxville TN in June of 1987.
Shotgun has 253 rule outs so far. The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)
The Detective read my email on Wed but has never responded.

I'm wondering why all three kids were raised by grandma? Brenda disappeared, but not the dads.

It says they have no contact with him, though you'd think he'd have contact with his son

From how I read it grandma was raising the first two after she divorced Jimmy - is that right?

Yes, and then took the third after Brenda disappeared.

I turned in Brenda last month for being a possible match to Shotgun Jane Doe, and I never heard back. I also came across this UID thinking maybe this could be Brenda The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) 107UFGA
The UID was found in March 1992 in Union City Georgia. About an 1 hour 40 minutes from Athens (where Brenda went missing from)
The height is off (the UID is saying between 5'6-5'10, Brenda is said to be between 5'0-5'4) - but I have seen height off plenty of times

I just saw the reconstruction of the UID and I thought of Brenda. Here is a side by side. The Mother's ring has 3 colored stones and two clear stones - Brenda had 3 kids - just a thought

So I turned this possible match to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office on Monday. I came into work this morning and received this email back:

Thank you for the email. We will begin researching this case and see if there is anything we can do to progress a match. That’s very interesting about the ring. I’ll certainly update you and keep you in the loop. Thank you for what you do.

I am so glad that he is seeming to take my possible match seriously!

You might be right. Here's the WS thread on Shotgun Jane Doe:

Shotgun Jane Doe had brown eyes while Brenda has blue eyes, so I don’t think it’s her.

I track Brenda's case in NamUs. I just saw that it was modified today 5/18/21. It still doesn't list any ruleouts, but I am hoping they are still actively working on her case.

I am going to follow up with the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office to see if they have any updates. It's been 7 months since I have last heard from them.

So I followed up with the Medical Examiner on the case of this Jane Doe to see if they had yet made a comparison to Brenda.

He emailed me back last evening. He said that he has been in contact with Brenda's daughter and showed her the ring that was with the Jane Doe. The birthstones in the ring do not match the month of her and her siblings, but they are not discounting it yet.

They also had the GBI wanting to get DNA from the Jane Doe but they only have saliva testing right now, and not DNA collected from a long bone. He is trying to get the FBI involved to do the testing, but it has a 5 month back log.

He also stated that would like Brenda's daughter and mother to have their DNA uploaded into National Data Index System because they don't think this has ever been done. (this could have her excluded from other Jane Doe's obviously)

The ME was so kind, I have been doing this comparing Jane Doe's to missing people for about 15 years now and I have only met a hand full that take us "sleuthers" seriously.

I wonder if Brenda’s daughter and mother ever submitted DNA. There are still no rule outs listed.

Another victim of Larry Hall possibly.

Or perhaps was the husband ever looked into? One article stated that he waited days just to file a missing persons report.

Brenda’s husband Eugene told Frances that she was last seen at the convenience store with cigarettes. According to Michelle, who was six when her mother disappeared, Eugene reported Brenda missing to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department a couple of days after she was last seen at the convenience store.
