I'm not from Georgia and have no ideas about the counties there (All I know is everything seems to be named Peachtree in Atlanta, lol). There have been a few different counties here mentioned on this thread (Telfair, Cobb, etc), so posting this map showing the Counties for reference:

Thanks that was a good idea, I actually use one similar to this on many ocassions, didn't think to post, but wanted to say, LE only is focusing on 3 counties, telfair, wheeler and jeff davis, but i'm thinking, esp if you look at this map, there is nothing BUT country, farm, barns etc on ALL the counties surrounding Telfair and including the counties outside of those, he could be anywhere! My guess is that LE has reason to believe or has relatives in Wheeler or Jeff Davis? Or is that where the river runs too?

This is what has bothered me the most RT is 28 and 6'4. Bud is 69 and 5'7. That is a big difference. I am 5'2 and my DH is 6'4 obviously he is not a criminal but he is big and strong and could easily overpower a person. I fear that RT could as well.

True, RT also may have had a weapon.

Thinking further about all of this, if RT was initially questioned by investigators, does this mean he was tracked down fairly easily? I mean, just going about his daily business in the days immediately afterwards? This is troubling, like whatever happened had already done happened, kwim?

Wondering about any physical marks on him and if LE took photographs. It was likely in LE's best interest/strategy to let him go at the time, whether or not they had enough evidence to hold him at the time. Jmo

True, RT also may have had a weapon.

I think so, especially IF there were no visible physical marks on him when he was initially questioned.
Again, I think its likely there is an accomplice here, jmo.

People in the know about that area- if one got turned around and went the wrong way out of McRae could they accidentally end up in the water at all? Just wondering if there are any sharp turns near it or anything. Just trying to think of reasons LE would know where he is and not immediately arrest him. Maybe they think he's guilty for luring them down there and trying to steal from them but that something bad happened on the way home vs at his hands?

I've learned not to rule anything out, but I can't really think of any specific spot where they might have ended up in water without people noticing. I was more concerned with all the rain on Friday, maybe they were bogged down on a side road or out of view. Still, I would hope someone would stop to assist them. I'm not familiar with the back roads and rural areas but I've passed through many times on the main highway. Friday's rain left a lot of the clay dirt roads in a mess and it would be very easy to slide into a ditch or the tree-line if they were on an out of the way road.

I think the charges have everything to do with this case.

They probably interrogated him and when he gave his story/alibi they checked it out and it didn't add up and they know he is lying his sorry a** off.

I think they are calling him a 'suspect' because they already know he is THE suspect.

I have never seen LE come out and call a person the suspect in a case and then have to backtrack on it later on.

IMO, he IS the one!

Yeah, I agree, thanks for the points, I was thinking all this time he had OTHER outstanding warrants on him, makes sense why they didnt' hold him then if the warrants are in in regards to this case, and were clearly made AFTER they interviewed him the first time I suppose

So someone(s) (and their vehicle(s)) might have been very muddy, depending on the potential timeline of events...

Those pictures are hauntingly beautiful. It seems like such a peaceful place. What types of crimes go on near "the river"? Someone mentioned that one shouldn't venture anywhere near there without being heavily armed. I don't understand that. Coming from out of the country I can't fathom that there would be no-go zones in an area as seemingly rural and pastoral as this.

need to read some history and biographies on some of these georgia counties

Very likely so, particularly if they veered off the main path. My step-son goes to school in a nearby county and his bus was bogged down after school on Friday.

I am wondering if the Big Truck could be a truck where a car could be transported in it, say like the Runion's vehicle (not a Mustang).
The Runion's and their vehicle are some place...
IMOO.

I was just thinking big diesel

The pictures are wonderful -- the photographer does an incredible job of capturing history. Jacksonville, GA, has a long-time reputation of being dangerous. As someone else posted upthread, it's in one of the poorest counties in the US. I live in a different county, but I avoid Jacksonville. Just the way it is.

FTR, fwiw, LE has identified RT as a "Suspect", and not a POI.

I'm thinking RT will be in custody soon, jmo.

So, where is this cemetery exactly...

(Posts re: the pecan trees reminds me of some of Foxfire's posts in other threads re: victims being buried at/near cemeteries, along fences lined with trees...a certain kind of tree, can't remember what he/she said, but its supposedly common with serial killers).

(Eta: I'm surprised Foxfire hasn't joined us yet...he/she was very active in the Dermond's thread iirc)

Don't remember Foxfire talking about the tree thing (could it be cedars, maybe?) -- but I sure have thought of him several times today while posting and reading on this thread.

I'm pretty sure those are evergreen trees (cedar) that Foxfire was referring to.

Whoops, behind in the thread -- now I see you already suggested cedars. Yeah, they are common in cemeteries, especially old ones, in Georgia. (As you would probably know, JudyBolton.)

Thanks for posting this... I had not yet seen the video update. First time I've heard the sheriff mention searching in water.

So very, very sad.

I'm not hearing that, somehow...? What exactly did he say about searching in water?

Webb is the surname, who probably owned the land the cemetery is on, in regards to the name Webb Cemetery Rd

thought he had outstanding warrants prior to this, why I wondered why the LE let him go the first time, or am I mistaken?

I'm behind a little in the thread still, so maybe someone has already answered, but: Apparently, some of the early media reports characterized the charges as prior ones when they should have said those charges are what he will be facing now, in this case. Don't think there really were any previous/outstanding warrants.

This may have been mentioned before, but as some people here have said they have burner phones, they use all the time, perhaps RT did as well. I had to use one about six years ago, when I moved to an area that didn't use my cellular provider. I was able to refill my minutes online with my debit card. Just thinking maybe RT did something like that, maybe he didn't realize his phone could be traced that way.

I agree. I also think it's possible that this may not be a case of him obtaining the burner to do the crime -- it may just be his "regular" phone. He may not be as savvy as we've supposed at points.
