I'm sure curious to know how they linked the phone to him.

Also wondering how far it "moved south of McRae", as media reports said.

i'm guessing process of elimination of phone numbers found on bud and
June's phone records.

I wonder if le called him and he answered the phone.

But if it was a burner phone -- how'd they link to HIM, by name?

Ha -- that'd be something, if LE called and he answered!

(Mods/JDB, can we please add "Active Search" to the thread title? TIA)

Since I'm not from Georgia and have no ideas about the counties there. There have been a few different counties here mentioned on this thread (Telfair, Cobb, etc), so posting this for reference:

Georgia Counties Map:

This reminded me of an article that ran in the AJC a couple weeks ago. As a point of interest, Cobb is one of the top five wealthiest Georgia counties. Telfair is literally the poorest county in the country. I'm not saying it has any bearing at all on this case, it's just a stark contrast between the Runions and RT.

Since one of the charges to be made against Towns is criminal attempt to commit theft by deception -- kinda confirms for me that either there was no Mustang or there was one but it was not Towns' to sell.

I don't think there ever was a Mustang.

It blows my mind how anyone could be capable of doing something like this. From what I have seen and read thus far this guy is married and I saw a photo of his wife on FB and she is beautiful. I also read his family still lives in McRae and he has many siblings, iirc. On the FB site it mentioned something about they are looking for a big truck. I don't know if that is what he normally drives or they think there was more than one involved.

It is for certain that the police already know he lied about having a Mustang for sale and that is why he has been charged with theft by deception. And since they have already charged him with 'theft' they must know he took the Runion's money they brought with them. Maybe when they interrogated him he still had a large amount of cash on him.

It bothers me that they have lost his trail though and he could be anywhere by now.

It makes me wonder if he was into drugs. In his photos he looks healthy but then I don't know anything about drugs either.

It just seems so sad and doubly tragic that this could happen to two people who have lead such a caring good life, and are so loved... not only by their family, but the entire community as well.

We live in a very mean world now no matter what any of our ages may be.

I also read on FB that they have the suspect in custody but I haven't seen that verified by any MSM so take it with a grain of salt.

I hope it is true and I hope he tells them what he has done with Bud and Ruth's bodies for I feel certain now they both are deceased. :(

IMO

It surprises me that the POI has no criminal record. [ allegedly] This couldn't be his first crime, if in fact he harmed this couple. Who begins their life of crime with a double murder of an innocent older couple?

I think the charge is criminal attempt of theft by deception, actually, so I don't think they KNOW he took money from the Runions ...yet. But yeah, probably.

I think maybe somebody whose lifestyle has taken a severe downward spiral -- drugs, maybe. And someone who is thinking, for whatever reason, that they will be able to pull off the scam without physically harming anyone ... but then things get out of hand. I'm holding out hope, though, for now, that the Runions are alive somewhere.

ok, so if they police questioned this guy earlier and it didnt' appear anything untowards, or whatever they called it............. does anyone have any opinions on WHY they are now calling him a suspect besides the fact that he has tried theft by deception before, doesnt' mean he had anything to do with this, I would be apt to say "person of interest" instead of suspect, but now in addition, the Police have a warrant for him..............why?

I think the charges have everything to do with this case.

They probably interrogated him and when he gave his story/alibi they checked it out and it didn't add up and they know he is lying his sorry a** off.

I think they are calling him a 'suspect' because they already know he is THE suspect.

I have never seen LE come out and call a person the suspect in a case and then have to backtrack on it later on.

IMO, he IS the one!

Is there an APB or BOLO for RT? Hopefully, we'll know soon. Prayers for the Runion's loved ones.

JMO, but I think the first reports that those charges (attempt at theft by deception, false statements) were previous ones were erroneous. I believe they are the charges he will be facing NOW (perhaps among others,of course) in this case.

So, in many threads (Heather Elvis, Terrilynn Monette for example) we have discussed all kinds of traffic cameras, (how some record differently, say constantly running as opposed to specifically triggered, etc) and there is a lot of valuable info in those threads.

I'm currently trying to get a list of different traffic light cameras in the McRae area, and am learning from this site that there are the following different types of cameras for me to check as "fields" in my query:

Red Light Camera
Speed Camera
Right Turn Camera
Right Light + Speed
Red + Speed + Right
Bus Lane Camera
Carpool Camera
Parking Camera
Railroad Camera
Stop Sign Camera (I can't say I recall ever seeing one of those)
Traffic Camera
Tollbooth Camera
Sobriety

While yes, it does have shades of the Bosma case, I just feel like I needed to point out, I don't think Millard had any "previous criminal history" either. Until he did. After further investigation.

I just keep hoping this is nothing like that case and this couple are found OKAY. I know it's wishful thinking after all this time, but stranger things have happened, right?

I agree, Dottie. He might have read the ad in Craigslist at a time when he was feeling despair over finances. He quickly concocted this scheme, hoping to lure this couple to his home turf (not smart), in order to rob them. Maybe he didn't intend to hurt them, but I imagine Bud would have become quite angry as soon as he realized he was being robbed.

Overall, a very sloppy, poorly planned, crime.

IMHO

Thank you. They are using these charges to arrest him in order to hold him in custody while they are hoping beyond all hope they will locate the Runions and I do think LE thinks both are dead.

This reminds me of Hannah Graham's case where they put out other charges on the suspect at first.

From the video at the link below it appears Telfair County Fire and Rescue (red vehicles) is handling the mobile command unit.

Recapping, also "multiple other agencies" as already mentioned. So far I've seen mention of Georgia State Police, in addition to Telfair County, etc.

Wondering about GBI ...FBI?

(hey, you forgot your link!)
