With talk of the storms that hit the area on Thursday night, I was holding on to hope that maybe Bud and June went off road in an area with no cell coverage and are still safe, waiting to be found. The fact that the suspect hasn't turned himself in to authorities after the warrants were issued is causing me to lose hope. He comes from a large family and they are obviously aware of what is going on. I honestly don't see how he could have no idea the police are looking for him.

I wonder why they (LE) didn't realize that things didn't add up when they were interviewing him????

If it's a very small community/county could it be that they knew him and his family and were more willing to believe what he told them at first?

Bud and June's story now has national attention. Good Morning America just announced they are going to talk about this case! I bet Jay will be located soon.

Hope this helps find this wonderful couple.

It was on CBS morning news as well! I hope he is feeling the pressure!

I think it was just a case of 20/20 hindsight, like all of us have sometimes. Local kid, never really been in any trouble, comes from a good family.......let's check out his alibi and see what comes of it. By the time they realized he wasn't telling the truth.........he was nowhere to be found.

Now that you're saying this steelman, it gives me pause. If you think that he's been a good kid and had no prior trouble, then I can see LE thinking that his kid isn't a suspect. But something triggered them to see him as a suspect. Wonder what that was? Obviously, he did some lying.
What would cause a young man like this (he's the age of my oldest son) to do something like this, without any trouble in his history? What would make someone think they could get away with it is my biggest question....

I don't mean any disrespect but people keep saying "kid" and 28 is not a kid. He is a grown man.

I really wanted to come here this morning and see that RT had been arrested and the Runion's located.
Such a sad story.
The world is pulling for and praying for you, Bud and June.

Oops. You're absolutely right. And I said "kid." Sorry. I think I said that because my oldest "kid" is 28. But my 4 kids are all adults now and calling them "kids" is a habit.

He's a man for sure. And they need to find him. Can't believe they let him out of their sights. Not very smart.

While it's been said by LE they interviewed him, I am actually wondering if they contacted and interviewed him by phone, not in person.
I just don't want to think they had him and let him slip through their fingers.

When you buy a car your existing insurance automatically covers the new vehicle even without being notified. Can't recall for how long, but for at least a few days.

Car dealerships would be up the creek without a paddle if the buyers had to contact their insurance company and register the vehicle before driving it off the lot most especially on weekends. Driving a new car off the lot "seals the deal" so to speak, if you try to return the car after you purchased and drove it off the lot it is now a "used car".

proof of insurance is required in order to register a vehicle in my state. I don't live in Georgia and it may be different.

According to LE the Runion's last cell phone contact was with RT's cell phone. They wouldn't say if it was incoming or outgoing. Knowing this, what kind of alibi or story could RT have given to explain this, and be let go? Even if he is well known in community, no past record, etc, this is highly suspicious.

Just to be clear, in my own remarks about the perp maybe originally not intending to do physical harm but then things "getting out of hand" -- I wasn't intending that as a "defense" or an excuse. Someone had been pondering what kind of person goes from no criminal record to ... (the poster theorized) murdering an innocent older couple. The "only intended robbery" was just part of a scenario I was suggesting as an answer. Georgia law doesn't accept "well, I only meant to..." as an excuse, either; that's why there's the category of felony murder:

I'm really bothered by this case, too. Right now I choose to hold out hope that Bud and June Runion are still alive.

They always start somewhere, I still would like to believe this guy is innocent until proven guilty but the warrant leads us to believe the LE has something significant on him, I hope and pray the Runions are alive, I find it quite odd on monday morning no one has heard from or seen them since thursday midday. Prayers still!

Sadly, I don't think they are alive. jmo.

if you have contacted your current ins co they will cover the car ,we've done this many times through dealers and private owners, if you do not have any current insurance and do not a own a car you will have to purchase auto coverage (because you dont' have any), you do have to have coverage to register your vehicle and will by the time you get the car home or by monday morning, , that's my experience

I also find it odd that a 28 year old man who has no criminal history decides to do something like this.

well he sure didnt' ACT like an adult if he did this, I think kid in this sense would be synonymous to saying 🤬🤬🤬🤬

I just don't want to think they had him and let him slip through their fingers.

Maybe they interviewed him standing on the side of the road, maybe they knocked on his door and asked if he had seen this older couple running around the neighborhood, whatever kind of interview it was, I think it was pretty informal for the most part. I don't think they really zoomed in on him until they got the phone records.

If you go back and look at the Facebook search page for the Runions, you will see towards the bottom where the daughter complains about AT&T "not cooperating" or something to that effect.

At first I thought that may be the reason they went ahead and charged him, since phone companies aren't willing to release records on missing persons cases, only on active criminal cases. (We saw that same thing back during the Jennifer Huston search). Once they got those records, they were able to start cross-checking and tracking phone numbers.

Wha-La ! Ronnie Towns is back on their hit list.

That, coupled with his alibi not checking out, put him dead center in their sights again.

unless a person is under arrest they are free to leave an interview.

i'm guessing le attempted to verify rt statements. and came up with enough probable cause to get an arrest warrant issued.
