NEWTON COUNTY, Ga.*- A Newton County father charged with the murder of his newborn daughter whose body was found last weekend was denied bond at his first court appearance Thursday morning. Christopher McNabb did not speak during his appearance in court, which lasted less than three minutes.

“I would hang my head too because the world now is looking at your face,” said Sherron Fontenot, who lives next door to McNabb.

Arrest warrants indicate McNabb struck the baby with an unknown object, which caused her skull to be seriously disfigured and damaged beyond repair.

“She was so tiny. Why do you have to pick something up to bludgeon a 2-week-old baby?” asked Fontenot.

The criminal warrants indicate McNabb wrapped Caliyah in a t-shirt and a blanket that came from the residence, then placed her in one of his drawstring carry bags before taking her to the woods and attempting to conceal her body with debris.

The disturbing details make his neighbors he put on a charade during the weekend searches.

“He was so sincere about wanting his baby back and then... all the time he killed her,” said Fontenot.

“I can't understand it,” remarked Fontenot.

McNabb is being held in isolation and deputies confirm he is on suicide watch. He did not ask for an attorney even though he is charged with felony and malice murder, aggravated battery, and concealing a death.

The felony charges he faces will now be considered by the Newton County grand jury, which next meets on November 3. McNabb will be held in isolation, under a suicide watch until then.

"I think we know and can prove in a court what happened and that's the next step," said Capt. Crum. "He had made a couple of initial statements then he indicated to investigators he did not wish to talk anymore."

With him not asking for an attorney and some of his actions, could he plead insanity?

Has anyone looked at whether he was in jail when Caliyah would have been conceived?

Hmm... so born on the 22nd of September? But premature, though already home at 2 weeks weighing 5lbs so maybe she was born at around 37 weeks? So her due date should have been somewhere around... now? So conceived approximately the middle of January 2017. Now I'll go check out his rap sheet - so I may be some time ;) lol

That was my thought. Although, it could be low birth weight vs actually being premiered. My son was born at 36 weeks and weighed 7 1/2 lbs. my other children that were born 37-38 weeks (They all had to be induced early due to medical reasons) ranged from 7-8 lbs, even being early. That being said, my friend had a full term baby that weighed just under 5lbs. I makes me wonder if smaller babies run in the family. My 36 week boy didn’t have to stay in the NICU and had no lung issues, so it is possible that she was 36 weeks or so but completely healthy to be released.

JMO, but I don't think insanity would fly at this point. He is a career criminal with a rap sheet that goes way back. By the time his Grand Jury trail comes around in November, he may change his mind about an attorney. Also, considering the charges, I think a Judge/Grand Jury will assign him an attorney whether he chooses to talk to one or not. As evil as he is, he needs an attorney. JMO

Post #217 quotes a live interview with the sheriff that states the area had been search on foot, with dogs and drones.

I wonder if if the fact that she was carefully hidden is an indication of one reason they felt he planned it?

“NCSO Captain Keith Crum told CrimeOnline that the body of an infant found deceased on Sunday afternoon, is likely of Caliyah McNabb, who disappeared from her family home on Saturday. The baby’s parents, Chris McNabb and Cortney Bell, allegedly said that they fed the baby at around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday. They claimed when they checked on her at around 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., she was gone.
On Sunday afternoon, volunteer searches found the body of a tiny baby wrapped in a blue blanket, inside a duffle bag and hidden under a log. She was found in an area that authorities previously searched, but according to Crum, they didn’t find her the first time because someone carefully hid her in a depression, then placed the log over her.”

Yes. I did the timelines of his incarcerations and arrests, and he was released in Sept/oct 2016 after 15 months in prison. Was taken in a few times over the past year, but not during the possible conception window.

Mom is considered a victim here. All evidence points to domestic violence. She is off limits.

Something that's been gnawing away at me since the dads criminal records got released. If you look at some of his charges, they include violence charges too. Child services have/would be involved. Is it possible the the dad shouldn't have been allowed near the kids? I can't see that child services didn't know about dads criminal past, and let him be near them babies. That might explain the nervousness of the mum and the muddled 911 call if dad shouldn't have been there and she slipped up. Just my opinion here, nothing else.

Were they domestic violence charges, or violence against the other child? If not, then CPS probably wouldn't say he couldn't stay there. I looked earlier for DV charges but didn't see them but could have missed them.

You responded to the comment that was I think you've taken out of context. Ms. Marple was responding to my comment about Cailyah's crying, not about CM killing Cailyah because she was crying. The crying was in reference to the point that CB could have been so exhausted that she slept through the baby's crying that morning....

Okay, I guess I replied to the wrong post. My theory on why he murdered her still stands.

I think he's come out from under whatever he was on, and knows it's over for him, and is accepting his fate. Just my guess.

my oldest son was due 10/10 and my LMP was 1/1. he was born 9/28 weighing 7 lbs 8 oz. they gain a pound a week the last month of pregnancy. she was born 9/22, is 5 pounds at 15 days old. im thinking she was closer to 35-36 weeks when born. her LMP would be late jan and conception early feb.

“How did he get to the point where, police say, he killed his infant daughter?According to an extensive amount of records, his criminal career began when he was 14 years old. It was a precursor to more than a decade of running away, stealing and assault - tragically ending with allegedly killing his daughter.”

I can feel for this young man's parents. In seeing his history, he likely has a severe mental health/personality disorder that's possibly never been diagnosed. IANAD but I can tell you that it truly looks like Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and probably some other stuff thrown in the mix. I can also tell you that a lot of families don't "do" mental health counseling, or believe there's anything wrong mentally. The kid is just rebellious, or stubborn. My child is not violent, but the struggle, and heartbreak, has been real, all the same.

I feel bad for both sides of the family. This reads like a kid who has Oppositional Defiant Disorder with a couple other things thrown into the mix. Some families do not believe that their kid can have a mental health problem. They are stubborn, or willful, or it's a phase and a few months in lock up will teach them. No, it doesn't, but there's likely nothing mental health help could've done anyway.

I probably missed this along the way... has anyone mentioned or heard of anyone on his side of the family? (Not that there’s much they could say, I’m just curious)

i have a 19 year old w adhd/odd. he is not as bad as CM but when reading his teenage behavior and refusals to comply w ANYTHING he didn't choose, I could identify. he is currently not adulting well and isn't allowed to live w me or w his dad, not due to violence or excessive theft but more than he wont repsect the home and argues about anything and everything. hes w his paternal grandparents right now. always the hard way, I pray daily that he learns before he is hurt or arrested.
