Neighbors in shock after missing man's wife is charged with murder
[...]

"It's a shock to all of us," said a neighbor, LC.

[...]

"Things have happened that made them turn bitter and angry, then alcohol and drugs got into it," said LC.

Even with such a past, neighbors say they never would have imagined an ending like this.

"She will have a miserable life of course, and he has no life so there is nothing fair about it," said LC.

I’m at least glad that LE followed up on this case. IMO, it looks like they took the family’s reports seriously and were able to arrest Eddie’s murderer. RIP Eddie.

Friend: Swarm of buzzards surrounded Eddie Cruey's home while investigators thought he was still missing
[...]

... Community members tell us they reported their concerns to police from the beginning.

[...]

Eddie's parents suspected something was not right for months. On Dec. 21, neighbors say they say they saw Dales discarding a mattress, carpet, and clothes on the side of the road.

“I called the investigator and said, ‘She's throwing things out, are y'all gonna come get it?' and he said, 'No, we don't have a reason to come get it,’” Kelly Cruey, Eddie’s step mother, said.

She followed up on Dec. 27 and every week since then to get answers.

[...]

A family friend, who asked to stay anonymous, also contacted investigators with concerns. She said someone had told her about a swarm of buzzards around Eddie’s house.

[...]

In fact, emails from Eddie's parents show they tried to express concerns to investigators at least nine different times. So, we brought these questions to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office ourselves.

The response? They don't comment on open investigations.

Wow. Given the article PM has posted, I guess I was wrong a bout LE being on top of this... Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

If someone hit me in the head with a hammer or ever threatened to harm one of my dogs, they would no longer exist in my life.

Everything about this seems shady. Very sad if it turns out to
Be Eddie, but I expect it will be.

Kinda strange it took almost a month to find a body at the residence where he was last seen.

I'm glad the dogs weren't harmed.

Wife will likely spend the rest of her life in prison and rightfully so, if she did this.

Noting:
  • The body was identified by his fingerprints.
  • The coroner's office revealed Cruey was killed by blunt force trauma.

Edward Cruey's loved ones say their last goodbyes at his memorial service
[...]

Edward Cruey's family from Virginia and those he knew locally all mourned and cherished the lasting memories Eddie was able to leave behind. "He was just very very intelligent and he was always looking for new adventures and stuff like that. He always gave it everything he had when he was doing something," Jerry Cruey, Edward Cruey's father, said.

Eddie's father says quite a few people, including Eddie's twin brothers, took the podium to share honorable remarks. He says he was overwhelmed by how many people came to support. "Extremely satisfying and pleasurable to know that the number of folks that were here today knew Eddie and thought enough of him to come here and help celebrate his life," Jerry Cruey said.

Bond denied for Augusta woman in husband's death
An Augusta woman accused of killing her husband and burying him in a shallow grave next to their home’s carport was denied bond Friday.

[...]

Dales later told a friend that she and Cruey had fought one night and that he chased her with a knife, Paine said. She claimed she grabbed a horseshoe stake and hit him in self-defense and continued to hit him after he got up, Paine said.

Dales also told the neighbor that she pushed his body into a hole by the carport that was already dug and covered his body with lime. The hole measured 3 foot by 3 foot and was two feet deep.

When questioned by detectives, Dales told them she had only one thing to say: “self-defense,” Paine said.

[...]

Defense attorney Kelly Williamson asked the Judge J. Wade Padgett to considering releasing Dales on bond. The defense is still investigating the case but there was domestic violence in the home and Dales has a self-defense claim, Williamson said.

self defense? Continuing to hit him while he's down, putting him in a hole that just conveniently was already dug, covering him with lyme that you conveniently happen to have on hand, and covering his body up with dirt... that's what you call self defense?

Is it lime or lye that preserves the body rather than moving decomposition forward faster? I can never keep the 2 straight but I do love when murderers choose the wrong one. JMO

An Augusta woman was again denied bond on charges she killed her husband and buried his body in the backyard.

We were in the courtroom Thursday morning. The defense argued that Dales was no longer a threat to the public and that she was not a threat to flee the state if she were to be let out.

But one thing was missing from the hearing this morning, and that was Cruey’s family, who live in Virginia. They say they were not notified until less than 24 hours before the hearing.
