GUILTY GA - Eight family members brutally murdered in Brunswick home, 29 Aug 2009

  • #481
CNN has an update as to possible motive. It is video and I cannot get my comp to work properly to listen to all. I am unsure on how to post a link and I do not want to post what I "think" was said in case I am wrong.

Thank you. So it was on CNN not HLN? The reason I asked HLN has carried this case more than CNN.

I know one of the local posters yesterday said that LE had the surveillance tape of a service station or convenience store about a half a mile away from the park. Did they mention that in the video?

Thanks again for giving us a heads up though.

The "motive" video can be seen here.

WOW, Heinz Sr. had just gotten a settlement of $25,000 from a trailer he had owned.

$25,000 was like a $100,000 to these families who made an average of 10K per year.

imo

They are releasing more details, verified all victims were beat, did not mention any of them being shot. Still claiming that Guy Jr. is the lone suspect.

OMG! These poor people had to be sleeping and he went one by one and murdered them.

What a horrific horrific case.

They have to be looking for his clothing and the bludgeoning weapon. I hope the other family members remembers something being in the home that is no longer there now.

This is insane, there is no way Guy Jr. beat all of them alone. This is just not adding up! Why wouldnt he or one of them go for the shot gun that he had stashed in the trailer? This just doesnt make any sense to me...

  • #488
This makes more sense ....the sound factor has hung me up from the beginning. 3 of the 9 were almost incapable of defending themselves. One could presumably disable several of those more likely to fight back without awakening everyone else. Then he could go back & finish the job.... I'm thinking hammer, tire iron or baseball bat.... beating that many would certainly make less noise than at least 9 gunshots for neighbors to have heard, but I doubt it was totally without sounds traveling through older mobile home construction & open windows. However, with numerous people living there, there must have been a lot of activity & those living nearby turned a deaf ear..... I questioned JR's involvement all along. Why lie about your whereabouts in the wake of mass murder? & why did he drop by the younger brotrher's house at 5 AM? This case is tragic all the way around. Prayers for the infant & remaining family.

Interesting read:

'CSI' alters reality of mass murders like Brunswick killings
These types of slayings require specific theories and approaches to investigate, experts say.

"The Times-Union spoke with three criminologists about the crime of mass murder

"The New Hope slayings are clearly domestic because they took place in the family's trailer.
Most people are accustomed to the typical pattern of familicide, where a member of the family - mostly the male leader, but sometimes a child or mother - takes out the whole family and sometimes kills him or herself.
Often such actions are taken as payback for perceived injustice, Fox said, where there is one key target but others are killed as a further way to get even with that person.
"In situations with children who commit family annihilation," Fox said, "one parent might be the target."
In other cases, a family is killed by an outsider, whether motivated by a robbery, a grudge, a drug deal gone bad or some other reason.
Whatever the motive, mass murders require specific theories and approaches to investigate.
"Mass murders are different," Fox said. "It's not murder multiplied by eight victims."

"when it comes to cases of family annihilation, more often than not the perpetrator is within the family. What police will tell you all the time is that, No. 1, the first set of suspects are in the family. You rule them out and then you begin to look at family friends and connections..."

When someone is initially arrested and the facts of the case aren't known yet, I normally have a bias in favor of LE's judgment until more is known for our own independent analysis. I just don't feel comfortable putting my blind confidence in this sheriff. Would he re-arrest this man and bar his attendance at his family's funeral without sufficient evidence of guilt? I don't know, but he seems like he might. We need more facts.

I wish they would release some facts as I really have no opposition agaisnt believing GuyJr did this but they have not convinced me that they had reason to arrest him for murder. The sheriff does seem to be expecting ppl take what he says as truth while offering nothing . I think he is expecting a lot ,an I am sure they have something to points to GuyJr. IS it beyond a reasonable doubt or is it circumstantial? My fear is they picked the person most likey to have done this per their training and experience and focused there attention on finding things to support that claim. The 25,000 dollar motive ,Raises more questions then it settles. As he had not even got it yet.How many people knew about this money? Why the whole family as Guy Sr was the only one getting the check why not wait til he was alone? Where was Belinda west son? Why have weed on you when you know the police are coming? GuyJr would know his father had not yet got that check. Lifting cash dad would be easy while leaving him alive. Sure he may suspect you took it but if your selfish enough to kill your whole family why would you care if he said you stole it? There was breif mention of two key pieces of evidence ,in addition to the Dna evidence. I find it odd the reward offered from the first day was 25,000 the same amout that they are saying motivated a killer. If you dont believe in coincidence then that should be hard to work arround. As should be Belinda west showing up at the crime sence and her statements to the press. IMO GuyJr is not the most likey suspect as his actions are stupid and dont point to a murder for profit plan..He naively thought they would find out "what happen to my dad" and I do not think he even thought he would be suspected. From the 911 call you can tell he is the one they will be looking at . It makes more sence someone thought Guy Sr had 25,000 dollars and knew it would not be in the bank and he was moving...and needed the family there to extort information (maybe why it looked like they were beat up?) And had to shoot everyone due to knowing the victims and also knowing Christy had sent people to jail for long sentences for robbery.

Shotguns are too noisy. People have bludgeoned people who are sleeping and they are found by LE to be in the same sleeping position. They never knew what hit them when their skull was crushed by a tremendous blow to the head.

I think it's interesting that the dogs were spared. I remember the case in Fla where four teens killed six people with metal bb bats while they were sleeping but they also killed the dogs who were barking and agressive. Wouldn't these dogs have barked if it was a stranger entering the home? Just wondering...

There were reports of the dogs barking as well as reports that someone kicked in the front door. http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/2009/08/30/met_546266.shtml

"Another neighbor said he was told someone kicked in the front door of the mobile home and started shooting at those inside."

We now know the "shooting" part was rumor. I know that if someone kicks in our front door and our dogs start barking we are awake and out of the bed like a shot! The person(s) would have to take out our dogs first because they would attack them giving us a chance to arm ourselves or run. Either these dogs were very docile or they knew the person(s) and posed no threat or alarm while the killer(s) quietly went about their business. IMO of course

The shooting part is not a rumor at least in Micheals case. We dont even have to assume that he was shot ,but why was he beat? why beat someone when are already going to shoot them.
I would love to see a poll started on this.

Multiple murder weapons? I find that very interesting even though there are reasonable explanations that don't involve multiple perpetrators. That they were found in their beds or on the floor is likely where they were sleeping. They never knew what hit them. In my mind this would put the murders closer to midnight than 8 p.m. when it is more likely everyone would be asleep. This is just incredible! And why does LE now decide to release these little tidbits?

Wow beaten to death. I am shocked, I really thought a gun of some type was used. Guess the "family member" that was on the chat last week during the live stream was incorrect. I really thought shot and beat. Still confused how one person could do this not wake up another person while killing one or even two at a time. How no one was able to get away if more involved. This guy or who-ever did this has no soul to be able to do this. Sure would like to hear what the weapon is.

I really don't trust the media that everything that has been reported is 100% correct and accurate. It never is in any case and I am sure this case wont be any different.

Today they are saying that all the dead victims died from being beaten. Now with Michael he too as beaten even if we take Heinz' word for it but maybe Michael out of all of them rose up trying to stand so maybe he was also shot too.

I remember in the Alday family murders the killers admitted they thought Ned Alday was some kind of super human because every time they shot him he kept coming toward them. They said "he just wouldn't die" (paraphrasing)

I do agree. LE knows far more than they are saying.

They have arrested him and we can all better believe they have a very good reason for doing that. The local, state and federal police agencies knows this is a highly publicized case.

We just don't know the intricate details like they do.

Even Jr's lawyer doesn't have a clue as to what LE has uncovered. He wont get that until normal discovery once the DA has to hand it over before trial.

imo

This thread has some very interesting points, both in support of LE and questioning LE. I'm more in the "question LE" mode this week, but willingly admit it is because of the actions of LE in OTHER areas----the cop that shot the fire chief, the undercover agents who shot and killed the pastor and then lied like rugs to his family.....

I believe it is possible this young man is the perpetrator, but I'm not convinced yet. If he is guilty, he missed his calling, because that 911 call sounded very emotional and sincere to me. Kid coulda been an actor!

I do respect your opinion and realize it is how each person perceives things but when I heard the lengthy 911 call and what he had to say knowing what he had to be seeing my hinky meter went up immediately.

I have never heard anything untoward about this local police department in Brunswick and I don't think the GBI, FBI or other federal agencies would be a part of any wrongdoing either.

The poor Pastor was killed by 3 undercover officers and certainly not by the entire police department though. I don't think LE in this case has anything they need to cover up and certainly aren't a part of the mass murders themselves.

In fact I think it was this same police department not too long ago that had another high profile case Christopher Burros (spelling?) I have seen nothing to show me they are anything but hard working, diligent men and women who do their jobs. From what I recall the citizens were very proud of how their PC handled the CB case and I am sure when this is brought to trial they will be relieved to see justice done.

....I agree re. the dogs;makes me think they knew the perp- DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT KIND OF DOGS THESE WHERE?! If it's been reported, I missed it, so TIA... I definitely think these folks were mostly deep in sleep, as others have suggested- just go ahead and get the biggest threats out of the way first. The next may have woken up but either was too half-asleep/confused or else petrified in shock.... the last 3 would have been quite easy, in the right circumstances- a young schoolgirl, a mentally impaired young man, and a 3-year-old... knowing the sleeping/bedroom arrangements would be helpful, too. Some points other posters have brought up are good as well: 1) Christy Toler had gone states evidence and put 2 men in prison for a long time; could someone possible have aided Jr., for revenge??- also- 2) It may not be so "noisy" to beat someone to death as we would commonly think. In 1978, Ted Bundy crept into a Fla. State sorority and beat two women to death (with a LOG!!) while also taking time to RAPE and bite them (or at least one of them, not sure); he then beat 2 others who survived; he was interrupted when a sorority sister came home late, and he fled....I think he "worked" INCREDIBLY fast-albeit with the rage of a psycho... I also wonder if Jr. was drug-tested upon 1st arrest; if he was "meth'd out," there would be proof. jmo, etc.!!
