Found Deceased GA - James "Greg" Powell, 61, Canton, 2 Nov 2025

  • #61
Greg Powell was unhoused for approximately for 18 months. Did Greg visit with his family during that time? Did the family notice any decline?
His daughter that reported him missing texted and played the Wordle game daily. After not playing or texting for only 48 hours, she reported him missing as this was not like him.

He has been found.

James Greg Powell

11/15 UPDATE - It is with deep sadness that we share an update on Greg.

Unfortunately, Greg’s body was discovered on Friday at Red Top Mountain. This is not the outcome any of us hoped for, and our hearts are absolutely broken for his family, friends, and everyone who has been praying and searching for him.

Please keep his loved ones in your thoughts as they navigate this unimaginable loss.

We are grateful to the community for every effort, every share, every prayer, and every moment spent trying to bring him home.

May Greg rest in peace.

Please continue to keep an eye out for Greg Powell. He was last seen in River Green. He dropped his beloved pup off with a sitter then left his car at Central Park.
He was due to return today to pick up his pup but did not do so, that is very unusual behavior for him.

These are pics from him dropping off his pup on Sunday morning. Please call 911 if you have any information on where he might be. His family is worried sick.

Here is the path the could have been walked from where his car was found to his last location. This means it is likely he did pass by the school the witness reported.

RIP Greg. I can only hope he didn’t suffer and found his peace in nature.

It seems the GBI will conduct the death investigation. No foul play is suspected at this time.

I will say, this is the closest I’ve felt to my fellow Sleuthers in the months I’ve been on the forum. Everybody was so dedicated to helping Greg’s family. It was a joy to witness.

Idk if fundraisers are allowed to share on here, but his family does have a fundraiser for funeral/investigative costs.

Yeah we don't link to fundraisers on here but you didn't do that. You just made mention of it and linked an article. :)
