GA GA - Janice Hughes, 30, Macon, 8 June 1991

She doesn't have a middle name . And I talked with family members they said she would never up and leave without us or calling. She always let them know she was okay

Latavia, I am glad to know you are following us somewhat here. I know some of the discussion of what may have happened must be awfully painful for you -- but then, you have been living with those possibilities for much of your life. I know you must want very much to find out what happened to your mother, and I sure want you to be able to. Y'all's story just touched my heart.

If you don't mind my asking, were you and your siblings staying with your grandmother at the time your mom went missing? And she checked in with y'all pretty regularly, then?

You're in my prayers. Bless you and your family.

Also -- did your mom attend high school? If so, do you know at which school/s and when? Was just thinking we might be able to get you a photo of her from a school yearbook.

Me and my sister's was in Brunswick ga visiting my aunt but my mother would still come down and check on her one time she came with her boyfriend Jack and left with him and that was the last time I saw her

Just noting (after looking at Charley Project page) that the set of photos for Janice are from around 1981 -- so about 10 years before she went missing.

Quoting my earlier post to say that, after reviewing the Telegraph/macon.com article, I think Charley Project may have erred about the date of that photo. Seems that it probably is from 1988 -- if so, only three years before Janice disappeared.

Thank you for replying. I'm glad you at least have the memory of the last time you saw her, though that is very sad, how it happened.

What did you think about Jack? (I know you were very young and probably didn't think much about him at all.) What do you think now -- do you think he was involved in your mom's disappearance?

From what I was told she went to south west high school in Macon but ent finish

I've asked for some help in looking for a photo. Here's hoping one is out there somewhere to track down! Would love for you to have another photo of your mother.

Latavia -- Does your mother have a sister named Jennifer? (Asking because of a photo found in yearbook search.)

Can anyone tell me a good site to go on to check and see if her ssn has been used

That's a good question...and I don't know the answer. Maybe someone will come along who does.

One thing: I would advise being very careful about plugging her SSN into random sites -- you never know who might be fishing for long-unused SSNs for identity theft purposes, etc.

It would so good if you could get a good contact in the Macon-Bibb County Sheriff's Department (since the Macon Police Dept. is now merged with the Sheriff's Dept.) -- someone like a "cold case" detective. They could help in many ways, if you got the right person -- someone who is willing to talk to you and listen to your concerns. That would probably be a good way to get the SSN checked out safely. I hope you can develop a trusting relationship with someone there so they can answer your questions as they come up. As I've mentioned before, the department can also get your mom's case into NAMUS, which is very important. (You DON'T have to have her dental records --though of course that would be helpful.)

Here is a link for the Social Security Administration web site, Latavia -- have you thought about calling them and explaining the situation? I'm not sure how much they would discuss with you, but they might help some.

No she doesn't

Reason I asked was that the person who was searching yearbooks did not find a Janice but did find a Jennifer, who resembled your mom somewhat. Thought it might be a relative.

The person who helped searched the 1976, 1977, and 1978 yearbooks from Southwest High School and didn't see your mom. The 1974 and 1975 yearbooks, which I also would like to search, were not available in the database he was using. I'm going to try to find another way to look at those -- it may take me a little while, though.

I really dnt remember much about Jack cause when I was young I dnt trust many people. And yes I would love to have another picture of my mother. And I think he did have something to do with her disappearance.

Lataviahughes, if you're still checking here, just wanting to post that I have not forgotten you and your quest to find out more about your mom and what happened to her. I still have some plans to try to locate a yearbook picture, but it will have to wait until I can get out and about more (because I am a caregiver, I am kind of home-bound much of the time).

In the meantime, if you're interested in pursuing that yourself, I was reading over in another section of Websleuths that some people have had success finding yearbook photos by finding a Facebook page for the school/graduating class and making a request there. I know your mom didn't graduate, but if you could locate someone from the class she would have graduated with, had she finished school, they might be able to scan a photo from a pre-graduating-year yearbook they own; I've read where some folks have found people to provide yearbook photos from as far back as junior high years. (Just a thought -- I would do it myself, but I don't do Facebook. Keep thinking I am gonna give in and try it but haven't done it yet.)

I also hope that if you find out anything from your own efforts that you are willing to share here, you will post! Please do check in now and then -- sometimes these kinds of threads will have no activity for a while and then they will have a burst of activity.

All the best to you!

Just take how much time you need to do this because I can't rush anyone that's trying to help me

Do anyone knows how I can get her in Nams database

Lataviahughes, I am going to ask a couple of WS members who are really good at this kind of thing to drop in and read the thread and offer some suggestions for you. I don't know the procedures too well and I don't want to steer you wrong.

So, if you can, keep an eye on the thread -- I feel pretty certain these good folks will help out! (Watch your WS private messages, too, if that feature works for you -- I think maybe you have to be a member for a certain length of time or a certain number of posts before it will.)

will try to get back here tomorrow to read; barely been home the last few weeks.
