Ryan Brunn chooses not to enter a plea. Wow.

What does that mean? Does that mean he's gonna decide what to plea when he hears whether they have good evidence or not?

Is that, in essence, nolo contendere?

pulling a melissa huckaby is he?

sure sounds like it to me... (bet he ends up pleading guilty if they take the dp off the table just like like she did)

No contest. It isn't an admission of guilt, it's saying you don't object to the charges.

A plea of nolo contendere allows you later to come back and plead not guilty if you want.

ianal, but with Melissa Huckaby, she didn't enter a plea for like three court appearances while they worked out a deal... could be what is going on imhoo

Thats immediately what I thought. He wants to see what they have against him. If you're not guilty, wouldn't you plead not guilty?

A no-contest plea, while not technically a guilty plea, has the same immediate effect as a guilty plea, and is often offered as a part of a plea bargain.[1] In many jurisdictions a plea of nolo contendere is not a right, and carries various restrictions on its use.

May I please ask what this means.

Has anyone seen an article or heard a report of why a no plea was given at this time?

TIA!

I might be wrong but I don't think this was a nolo contendre. I think this was like the others said happened with Huckaby.

The attn's might want to have a look at what evidence there is before advising their client on a plea. JMHO

Was this his choice to not enter a plea or his lawyers?

Not necessarily. A plea of not guilty moves things along more quickly, more court dates are immediately set up, and this lawyer hasn't had a chance to glance through what they have.

This kind of gives everyone a breather. Stops the wheels in motion while the lawyer figures out the best strategy.

I am stumped. If you are not guilty, why wouldn't you plead "not guilty?" You could still make a plea later to plead guilty. What is the advantage for him at this time to not make a plea? I feel I am missing something.

Well I have no doubt now that they have the right perp. :behindbar

I also wouldn't lie to LE and tell them I was at Walmart when Jorelys went missing, when I really wasn't at Walmart. Unless I had a cloak of invisibility somewhere and the cameras didn't pick me up...

If if is true RB told LE he was shopping at Walmart when Jorelys went missing,
he should be able to provide LE with a sales receipt that has the time and date stamped on it.

Our Walmart has CS reps at the entrance who greet the customers as they enter the store so if Ryan was there and had a cloak of invisibility, several clerks including the cashier who served him should recall seeing him and be able to confirm his alibi.

ClairNC, I think his mom lives there in VA as well.

As far as girlfriend/no girlfriend, plenty of killers have had girlfriends or been married (BTK killer)

Shelby, According to her FB page, his mother KAHW Lives in Dahlonega, Georgia and is from Flushing, New York I don't see a Virginia connection there.

I never mentioned anything about girlfriends so you might have been responding to somebody else.

The quote feature works great to keep track of responses to your posts.

His mother lives in Dahlonega. But there was someone with her name in the DC Metro area (including Virginia) from 1994-2002. I found it on ancestry.com - and *believe* it is her. The dad and stepmom are still in Virginia.

Hope this helps!

Just off the cuff opinion Suzanne. Yes I think it was his attns. For a couple of reasons.

This was his first arraignment and they want to see what LE has as far as evidence goes. This crime was pretty horrific.

Also, yesterday at the presser GBI said that the investigation is ongoing. So there is evidence still awaiting forensics. They will want to see what that turns up. Then they can go with a plea that is in the best interest of their client. Sucks but that's how it works. All JMHO and off the cuff.

Thanks Peachy for the updates. This is just too close for comfort isn't it. I want to go to the vigil tomorrow, but will have to rearrange my calendar.

Without further information, I am wondering if his stay with family in Virginia might have been the result of his being sent away after getting in some kind of trouble. Or else a cover story for where he was during a stay in juvie?

Since he had several FB friends from the Fredericksburg, VA area, I think he probably really spent some time there. Seems like during his high school years based on his age and the age of his Virginia-based friends. While it might not have been a legal juvie detention, it could be that his mother sent him to live with family there because there was a problem.

Has anybody heard anything about a father? Where is the Mr. Brunn...that helped in creating Ryan? Maybe the father's family is from Virginia?
