Jorelys Rivera murder suspect Ryan Brunn remains in isolation in the Cherokee County jail after his attorneys did not ask for bond during his first court appearance today.

Court-appointed lawyers Daren Burns and David Cannon told Superior Court Judge Frank Mills they did not have enough time to review the case and prepare a bond motion after getting Brunn as a client at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

~snip~

Burns said his client, who dropped out of high school in Dahlonega in the 10th grader, was very shaken by the whole situation.

It’s not clear when he next will appear in court. His attorneys will have to file a motion to get Brunn a bond hearing.

The county grand jury is convening Monday, Mills said, but it’s more likely that prosecutors won’t be ready to present the case until the grand jury’s January session.

Meanwhile, Brunn is being held in isolation from the rest of the jail population, Cherokee County sheriff’s Lt. Jay Baker said.

If if is true RB told LE he was shopping at Walmart when Jorelys went missing,
he should be able to provide LE with a sales receipt that has the time and date stamped on it.

Our Walmart has CS reps at the entrance who greet the customers as they enter the store so if Ryan was there and had a cloak of invisibility, several clerks including the cashier who served him should recall seeing him and be able to confirm his alibi.

His friends that initially backed up his lie, have already confessed to LE that it was phony. He asked them to lie for him and stupidly, they did. But once LE showed them the video from walmart, proving they lied, they recanted.

Didn't Shelby Dasher also not enter a plea and the judge entered a plea of not guilty for her? I would think that not entering a plea would be the same as a not guilty plea, rather than a guilty plea. Or maybe it means just that. He's not required to enter any plea at this time and will do so at a later time.

Not necessarily. A plea of not guilty moves things along more quickly, more court dates are immediately set up, and this lawyer hasn't had a chance to glance through what they have.

This kind of gives everyone a breather. Stops the wheels in motion while the lawyer figures out the best strategy.

I get that, but if you are truly not guilty then you would know they won't have anything on you. I guess he could have insisted this to his lawyer, but she advised.

I'll tell you what I see now.He does not seem cocky. He looks away from the camera. His head is down in the court room.Quiet.I see nothing to point to a vicious killer on his face book page. His family does not talk bad of him.He I feel appears to be passive agressive maybe? Two personalities?Looking away from the camera, head down shows me signs of guilt or very passive.I don't know what to think. Not the killer I expected to see.Very confusing.

This is going to take a while. I think this won't go to trial for many months. We're in for the long haul. JMHO

On HLN...

Mike Brooks at courthouse
- Brunn asked if he was happy with his council he said yes
- he seemed agitated, kept looking around and behind him, attorney had to tell him to face forward
- hearing lasted about 7 minutes
- he answered judge loudly and clearly
- he is in segregated confinement at jail
- LE going to at least 2 other states to see if he was involved in any other crimes
- he did not have to plea today, just an initial appearance, no bond set because it's murder, could be indicted by grand jury as early as next Tuesday

Just heard on HLN he didn't have to plea today.

ETA: The showed video and he was constantly chewing on his bottom lip and kept looking around and behind him.

This kid's pretty naive.

I think he took his lawyer's advice, as you say, and the lawyer at this point has no idea what LE has, or even whether Ryan is guilty.

I'm a little put off by the fact that they have pretty much announced this is a done deal, but they won't have enough even to take before a GJ Monday.

If that's true.

I do understand the enormous pressure LE was under to find whoever did this horrible thing - the community is panicked. But it just seems like they've a bit jumped the gun here. IMHO.

Since he had several FB friends from the Fredericksburg, VA area, I think he probably really spent some time there. Seems like during his high school years based on his age and the age of his Virginia-based friends. While it might not have been a legal juvie detention, it could be that his mother sent him to live with family there because there was a problem.

Has anybody heard anything about a father? Where is the Mr. Brunn...that helped in creating Ryan? Maybe the father's family is from Virginia?

His father and stepmom are on FB, and say they live in Dumfries, VA.

Somebody back thread asked if they could have arrested him solely on tips. IMHO no.

They have to have probable cause. Which means that LE has to have a reasonable amount of suspicion and at the very least circumstantial evidence to support that suspicion (and be able to later try to prove them true). So they've got something on him, either entirely circumstantial or factual. At this point, there's no telling what it is. JMHO

I think possibly years. LE has said they expect the investigation alone to take months.

It's kind of hard to believe, since they have her remains very quickly.

If they actually have pending evidence that they're awaiting - presumedly DNA and fingerprints and blood evidence - why announce upfront this will take months?

Kind of baffling.

I thought I had read the DA may file additional charges before court today. At least he is in jail without bond.

Based on what I've read on FB, I think he came straight from living with his mom to living in that apartment complex. I think there was no one there to 'keep him in check' or to be accountable to. And he freedom that he hadn't had before. MOO

The reason I'm thinking this is b/c there seems to be a contrast b/t his FB stuff (kinda...) and what folks at the complex were saying about him creeping them out, about they suspected him, etc. I will say, though, on his FB page, it was mostly normal teen guy type of stuff, but definitely on the wilder side, IMO.

His mother lives in Dahlonega. But there was someone with her name in the DC Metro area (including Virginia) from 1994-2002. I found it on ancestry.com - and *believe* it is her. The dad and stepmom are still in Virginia.

Hope this helps!

Thank you Belimom! I have not had time to research the family other than getting a copy of Ryan's FB page before it was taken down. So Ryan was born in 1991, IIRC, and Mom lived in Virginia in the mid-1990's to 2002, maybe that was when Mom and Dad were still together.

It seems like he has 3 brothers and one sister? Is he the third child? Fourth? Fifth? The sister(C) and one brother (SPB) definitely seem older. Are the other two brothers younger or older?

The one that spoke out in one of the videos posted here (CLB), definitely seemed like a teenager rather than over 20.
