I could see Ryan acting out after moving from up east to podunk, Georgia. That's quite a change, and factor in being a teen....

His mom is from VA, so I'm guessing he went back for a bit to live with someone on her side of the family, but then he came back to GA and apparently lived at home after he graduated high school. So, perhaps life wasn't too bad at home after all.

This is such a strange case...so violent and brutal. And it apparently came out of nowhere...

BBMWhen I was in high school 37 years ago in Canton it was podunk, East Egypt Georgia. Kids still came to school in overalls covered in cow poop. It is now basically a suburb of ATL and has all the conveniences of a large city and it's crime with a backwards city police dept. MOO

Bluesky I can't find your post to quote.

You asked about docs released in re of GA Sunshine law so I went and looked it up because IIRC there was another state that differed from FL sunshine laws where you get to see everything up front.

I found this:

http://www.gfaf.org/resources/sunshine_laws.pdf

I'm reading that as they don't have to disclose if the investigation is pending (or ongoing in my interpretation). Plus I wonder if when they are entered into court as evidence if we will get to have a look a them then? Anyone familiar with that aspect of GA sunshine law?

I thought of that, too. I homeschool my own kids, not for behavioral issues, so I certainly don't want to stigmatize homeschooled kids as having problems. But it is true that SOME families choose homeschooling as the best way to deal with emotionally troubled kids. Putting it together with the stay out of state caused me to wonder.

I was wondering the same thing since we heard two different things: One, was that his mother homeschooled him and Two, was that he left high school in his sophomore year. To me that sounds like something happened to disrupt his education at that time. I wonder what happened when he was 15?

:seeya: Hi neighbor! I have been called to jury duty here several times. I think I am correct that they only hold court 4 times a year. Almost ALL the cases have always settled out of court. LUCKILY I never got called for a murder case! I know so many people in the system that I'd never be chosen anyway... MOO

I wonder how it works in Cherokee county. Are murder cases tried on a separate calendar? This could take a REALLY LONG TIME!

Hi neighbors! I live in Cherokee County, Ball Ground which is just outside of Canton. Here is a link to the Cherokee Co. Court Calander...

I hope they are not basing too much of their beliefs about his guilt upon that statement. I think anyone might say that when looking for a missing kid. I would say that if I knew there were vacant apartments all over the complex too. That alone does not make him guilty of murder. Neither does the lying about the alibi. Again, it was stupid and immature, but he may be stupid and immature, but not a killer. It was a silly comment he made to a neighbor when he told her he was afraid of LE looking in his apt. because he had beer in there and he is underage. That seems so silly because obviously homicide detectives have no interest in a 20 yr old drinking beer at home. So was he lying when he said that, or just kind of stupid?

I hope they have more than just the fact he had a key to the compactor. Anyone could have put her in there, key or no key. And how many other people had access to the vacant apartments? I hope they have all been vetted.

I really hope they have fingerprints, or blood evidence or bloody clothing or eyewitnesses to his being at the vacant apt. that afternoon----something solid.

I agree Katy. If I am out looking for a missing child, it is possible that I would be talking about possible situations where someone might be able to commit their crime. That is what is on someone's mind who is looking.

I hope LE has much more evidence, DNA etc. which will be proof when the crime lab is finished. My jury is still out until then. I don't see any definite evidence yet, enough to say he is absolutely guilty.

Good point. Do we know whether his leaving school coincided with his visit out of state?

The article I provided the link to said he was arrested on tips provided by the residents.

Apparently we have access to the search warrants because of the Sunshine Law but I haven't read them. Have they been posted?

I hear ya. :seeya: IMO, I think the way that article was worded was an example of journalistic readers digest version of events. The focus on him started with tips, but in addition to that, they interviewed him, found he lied about his alibi, found he asked friends to lie about his alibi, reportedly have found 'mountains' of evidence, etc. But it's a short article so I think they spliced point A and point B together much closer than they are. The neighbors talked ... he got arrested.

Cause I seriously don't think any judge is going to hold a man on suspicion of murder, without bail, purely because all the neighbors think he's creepy, looks at kids weird when driving by the park, said this weird things, and someone saw him near the dumpster. That's all I'm saying, and just my opinion.

I have not seen the search warrants.

thread is moving so fast I wasn't sure if this had been posted yet.

if so please ignore.

Mother of Jorelys Rivera Calls for Death Penalty

but it could be a month or more before the 20-year old maintenance worker faces an indictment.

"I expect it will be weeks," Cherokee County District Attorney Garry Moss told ABCNews.com. "There'll be no public announcement concerning the indictment until such time as there is one."

"I don't want any charges brought against him. What I want is the death penalty," Jocelyn Rivera said

If you read the article I posted above (I can't snip anymore without violating TOS)

It says that RG lived with his foster mother and 4 foster siblings prior to moving to Canton.

Posting that for members that are looking into his background.

FWIW I served on a GJ in Alabama and it may be different in Georgia but we met for 2 wks and all the cases we were to hear filled the docket. There is no way they could fit another case into the time frame we had and anything else would have been scheduled for the next GJ.

That also my experience serving on a GJ in Alabama. Now I live in Georgia, not quite in podunk, but I love to visit there! :floorlaugh:

And here's a call out to Amos's BBQ in Ball Ground--best Brunswick stew anywhere!

Thanks for looking that up Kat. I don't know...From what I have seen in Bartow Co., which is the same Judicial Curcuit as Cherokee Co. and Canton, the courts usually don't release much info about cases before trial. Well, let me rephrase that...the one newspaper doesn't print much about evidence the court has, before trial. Don't know if that is due to the laws, or just a decision made by the newspaper. Would be interesting to find out. I'll ask around and see what I can find out. :waitasec: BBM

Meanwhile, a judge ruled that Joseline Rivera's two younger children -- Jorelys' half-siblings -- could return to the custody of family members, attorney John Connley told reporters.

Authorities took away the two children, ages 4 and 1, on Saturday, a day after Jorelys went missing. The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services cited lack of supervision. Connley, who represents the children's father, did not specify which parent would have custody.

Just reading on some of the FB pages created about Ryan...some people are sending horrible private messages to the brothers and mother. I'm surprised some of their FB pages are still public. :(

OK... if RB commented on empty apartments and missing children a few weeks before JR disappeared why? WHY on earth would he be fool enough to use an empty apartment? Based on his comment alone seems like Heather would have sent police to EVERY empty apt pronto!!!! KWIM?
Something is fishy here!
or maybe he is just THAT brazen???

Hi neighbor...I can't answer that. Heck, I can't even remember there ever being a murder in Canton. The people up there always seem so easy going and mild mannered, hard to believe this happening. I go to a church in downtown Canton sometimes. Love those people..Sure hope they have the right person before someone else gets hurt. My heart hurts for this community. Thinking of going to the vigil tomorrow night, but not sure I can work it in my schedule. :seeya:

Oh that's SO not nice. What do they have to do with this?

Gahhhhh!

Guys, I am doing a media interview later today. I'll tell you all more about it later but I need a quick favor.

Can someone recap this case for those of us who have not followed it closely?

I know the basics but I don't have the latest.

Just an overview in one post would be great.

Thank you,
Tricia

Were you here when Sue Ann Ray was missing and found dead? That was another one with swift justice here in Canton!
