GUILTY GA - Laila Daniel, 2, beaten to death, McDonough, 17 Nov 2015 *foster parents arrested*

  • #261
In her closing argument Daysha Young urged the jurors to go back and look at the photos of the girls in their bathing suits in the backyard, to see if they can spot any ladder. She says it's not there and Jennifer's sister is lying about Millie and Laila falling down from the ladder the day before Laila's death. The bruises on Millie's hip area are not consistent with scraping down horizontal ladder steps and the sister never gave a statement or contacted anyone after Jennifer was charged to tell them she was there and saw how Millie's hip got injured.

When Mull cross-examined Millie she showed her photo after photo of their clothes in the closet, toys in their room, their bunk beds, dresses, bicycle, the front door, bath time, the parties and treats they were given. She never showed her that photo of the ladder propped up against a tree and asked if she remembered it or remembered falling down it.

In fact I'm sure somewhere I heard during the early part of the trial that their explanation for the hip and back bruising started out as injury from the wall ladder at the gym, until the gym instructor denied they would use the wall ladder, and then it evolved on last day of trial into this ridiculous story of a ladder propped against the tree that is still there over 4 years later, conveniently photographed and slipped into evidence, without giving discovery to the state.

That is disingenuous, coming after Ms Mull confirmed with the detective that no photos were taken of the back yard.

I thought the cross-examinations of both of Jennifer's sisters were handled brilliantly. Especially the part about daycare that was the wrong age group and time of day to corroborate the messages Jennifer sent Tessa about having just collected Laila from daycare because she was sick, cancelling Tessa's scheduled visit the next day, and sending her a photo of Laila that was 2 months old, putting a filter on it to make it darker and claiming it was taken that day at the doctors.

I laughed when Daysha Young said her heart almost stopped when they brought in a witness who owns a daycare, but it transpired Laila and Millie weren't enrolled there, she was only there to testify about knowing Jennifer through political meetings! DY exclaimed "why are you here?"

gotcha. i was confused because your statement following "i dont think so" contradicted what i assumed you didnt think.

i formed my opinion based on a handful of times she would refer to Jennifer as an abuser... in which one of those times the witness being questioned stated "I didnt call Jennifer an abuser, you called her the abuser!" o_O talk about freudian slip!

I dont feel she is experienced the way she handled that trial, Or she is but she didnt have a lot to defend in this case (imo, more likely).

can you kindly share the link to her homepage?

Haha, didn´t notice the slips. Freud would be proud of you.

Due to her homepage presentation she should have enough experience.
Is it allowed to show her homepage? Anyway, google "Corinne Mull", the first result is her office page.

I find that unusual in the fact that Jodi Arias attorney was also a sex offender attorney. We see where that got Jodi, Guilty as charged!

Very interesting, thank you for summarizing this. How attentive you all are!
It seems so the whole defense is based on sowing confusion and doubt.

I wonder if the juror who fell asleep, then asked to be excused due to hardship, then fell asleep again will be booted off tomorrow. That's how they said they were going to handle it. They didn't release him at the time because they didn't want the alternate jurors to know they were alternates.

There seems to be some trial videos cut short on youtube. I also remembered that witness who told Mull that she was the one who referred to them as abusers but I can't find it now. I don't know if that was the witness who said she was there under subpoena because she didn't want to be there - can't find that one either.

Judge and counsel for both sides just agreed on emails and texts to go to the jury, then judge announced court is in recess.

It seems the jury is already deliberating! I was expecting final instructions in addition to Friday's but it seems not. Looks like we are on verdict watch.

Ah, maybe not :) Just seen this in the sidebar -

11AliveHi everyone, the jury has not yet begun deliberating. The judge and attorneys are in chambers reviewing things before deliberations begin.

So they are deliberating. They just sent a note to the judge to agree their deliberating hours 9 am to 5 pm, with two 15 minute breaks, and lunch between 12 and 1.15 pm.

I thought the ladder was put in as a last ditch effort to explain Millie's bruises. If it had been up while the girls were there I feel mull would've asked Millie about it during her cross. I definitely think bringing in the ladder was kind of damning to JR as well because the girls were admittedly unsupervised outside around the ladder.

Nearly 2.30 pm there now. They've been deliberating about 4 hours.

I'd like to think they already spent their last night of freedom yesterday.

Some whispering going on at the bench.

Thanks again, Tortoise!:)
The sleeping juror worries me a bit.

Oh my ... I'm so nervous.
Please justice for these little kids!

Yes, Mull would have asked.
I don´t buy this ladder story.
And again they didn´t go to the doctor to have the injuries examined?

And is Mr. Rosenbaum really just a wimp?

I think he will have been given his marching orders. I heard Mull complaining about him to the judge again just last week.

I don't know how many alternates they started with but I heard Daysha Young telling the judge that there were 2 alternates waiting in the hall outside the courtroom this morning and they needed to be told about the jury's schedule so they could go for breaks too.

Thanks for the Info!
The defense will complain about everything in order to be prepared. The judge should have dismissed this juror right away.

The judge is on and talking but the sound is horrible for me. I can't hear most of it. :/
