‘Cool! How deep?’: Family texts back and forth about burying children they murdered in backyard, dad boasts about being ‘almost done’ with daughter, cops say

May 21st, 2025, 9:30 am
[...]
Defense attorneys for the family have been trying to prevent the use of crime scene photos, arguing that they are too graphic and would overwhelm the jury.
[...]
Prosecutor Matthew Breedon argued that the admission of photos was something that could be objected to at the trial, but not now.

“This case was indicted in 2019. We’ve had motion hearings for six years,” Breedon said. “I think this week is the week to get this case moving forward where it needs to be, we are at a point where we need to move forward.”

Red emphasis mine.
I disagree with the defense atty's.

Imo-- the defense wants the full horror to be mitigated somewhat by not allowing the jury to see for themselves what the kids suffered !
Sorry for the jury but I believe they should be allowed to see what was done to these precious young teens.

Having served on jury duty twice before although not child cases and not for murders, I feel that if the children suffered it, I can bear seeing it.
My opinion is that it's one thing to hear about starved, beaten & buried which was what was done to young Mary and Elwyn ; but to see photos lays out exactly the heinous actions of the monsters who committed the acts.
Imo.

Motion hearing on foreign subpoenas on 6/16/25 @ 9am.
5/20/25 Update: The Daubert Hearing began Tuesday morning, Judge Matthew Hube presiding. In this hearing, either party can challenge the admissibility of an expert witness. The defense challenged the scientific methods used by Dr. Edmund Donoghue, former medical examiner with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab, when determining the deaths of Mary & Elwyn Jr. The defense teams implied that Donoghue relied on hearsay. According to Dr. Donoghue’s findings, Mary died from starvation & her death was ruled a homicide. The medical examiner determined Elwyn’s Jr.’s death was caused by homicidal violence, but he was unable to say exactly how it was done. Mark Wright’s attorney, Allan Sincox, said Dr. Donoghue is offering opinion & should not be allowed to testify as an expert witness in the upcoming trial. Sincox claims the examiner relied on outside sources to reach his conclusions. The defense also challenged whether the expert testimony of Dr. Alice Gooding, a GBI forensic anthropologist, is needed in the upcoming trial. Next motions hearing for all on 5/21/25 @ 9am.
5/21/25 Update: The last of three days of hearings in the Crocker case this week wrapped up Wednesday morning in Effingham County. Judge Matthew Hube, who is presiding over both the criminal & civil cases surrounding the Crocker murders, decided to set another hearing date for 6/16/25 @ 9am. That’s to handle matters that required additional witnesses or documentation as a result of what’s been discussed this week. Elwyn Crocker was the only defendant in court Wednesday. The defense has some time between now & the next hearing to go through the crime scene & autopsy photos, to argue what they think shouldn’t be shown to the jury. The court also must decide on whether electronic devices found in the Crocker home should be used as evidence. Judge Hube says he plans to issue his decisions on some of the matters soon, while the leftover motions will be discussed at that next June hearing.

The more than six year old Crocker Case faced yet another delay in court Monday, as attorneys for Elwyn Crocker asked for more time to review crime scene photos.

Judge Matthew Hube had scheduled several motions to be addressed in Monday’s hearing, a key issue, a defense motion about which crime scene photos can be used at trial.

However, the defense told the court that they were not ready to argue this.

“We’re still working on the photos in this case,” said Elwyn Crocker’s Attorney, Jerilyn Bell.
