I tried to read this whole thread as this case is extremely intriguing. I am not sure if anyone has posed this theory or not but I'll throw it out there. Is it possible that somehow, while working at the bank, Diane came across something or heard something about Mary's disappearance? She was working at the same desk. Maybe she found something. Maybe she went to police or was thinking of going to the police (possibly explaining her supposed comments about working undercover with police on Mary's case). Perhaps, if the person who was involved in Mary's dissapearance was a bank employee, they found out Diane knew something (either through the grapevine or overhearing a conversation) and decided to silence her permanently. Could have been someone high up with a lot to lose if the true story came out. Just some of my thoughts.Nice job on the newspaper finds Cambria! I am going to scan through those archives to see if I can find the article I read a long time ago about Diane's room-mates getting threatening calls after her death to the point where several of the girls moved because they were so scared. I KNOW I read that somewhere and didn't just make it up somehow.....
There are SO many parallels between these two women it is really hard to believe they were connected. How bizarre is it that Diane not only took Mary's position at the bank but she also lived with Mary's old room-mate and just like Mary she recieved roses from an unknown sender shortly before she disappeared?? I know the police stated they had tracked the sender down but I don't always believe what the police tell the media. The first article Cambria posted said that other women at the bank had reported getting anonymous roses too.
The big question for me is if it is the same person who committed both of these crimes then why did they leave Diane in a place where she would obviously be found yet hide Mary's body so well she was never found? Are we looking at the progression of a serial killer becoming more bold?
Also - has the rumour that Diane had been asked by LE to find out info about Mary been verified at all?

I agree. Too much time has passed now. All we really have are theories and speculation.Yes, that possibility has definitely been discussed. It seems very plausible considering all of the parallels between the two women, unfortunately there is just no way to verify it. It is very doubtful we will ever know what happened to Mary or Diane.

Has anyone ever written a book about these cases? It seems there is plenty of information and articles out there and so intriguing. Seems like it would make for great book material.
I don't think any books have been written to date. I think ncthom, who posts on this thread, is writing a book or a multi-chapter article about it. I believe he has interviewed some friends of Mary's about it. I'm not positive though, it's been a while since I read something to that effect. It's probably in previous posts somewhere on this thread if he is writing about the case. I would check it out, but I'm working now and don't have time to go through some of the previous posts. I hope he is..this case needs exposure.
