I can't remember exactly what the Charley page looked like before but I think they've added a lot more detail. I surely appreciate any efforts on Mary and Diane's behalf - I'm anguished to think they might be forgotten after all they and their families have endured.

And this October 14 will be the 45 anniversary of Mary's disapperance...

A Facebook Page called "Let's find out who killed Mary Shotwell Little and Diane Shields" has posted information that the Atlanta Police Dept located a box of evidence from Mary's case. If this is true - I hope it that may lead to a break in the case. The families have waited for such a long time.

Nice job on the newspaper finds Cambria! I am going to scan through those archives to see if I can find the article I read a long time ago about Diane's room-mates getting threatening calls after her death to the point where several of the girls moved because they were so scared. I KNOW I read that somewhere and didn't just make it up somehow.....

There are SO many parallels between these two women it is really hard to believe they were connected. How bizarre is it that Diane not only took Mary's position at the bank but she also lived with Mary's old room-mate and just like Mary she recieved roses from an unknown sender shortly before she disappeared?? I know the police stated they had tracked the sender down but I don't always believe what the police tell the media. The first article Cambria posted said that other women at the bank had reported getting anonymous roses too.
The big question for me is if it is the same person who committed both of these crimes then why did they leave Diane in a place where she would obviously be found yet hide Mary's body so well she was never found? Are we looking at the progression of a serial killer becoming more bold?

Also - has the rumour that Diane had been asked by LE to find out info about Mary been verified at all?
I tried to read this whole thread as this case is extremely intriguing. I am not sure if anyone has posed this theory or not but I'll throw it out there. Is it possible that somehow, while working at the bank, Diane came across something or heard something about Mary's disappearance? She was working at the same desk. Maybe she found something. Maybe she went to police or was thinking of going to the police (possibly explaining her supposed comments about working undercover with police on Mary's case). Perhaps, if the person who was involved in Mary's dissapearance was a bank employee, they found out Diane knew something (either through the grapevine or overhearing a conversation) and decided to silence her permanently. Could have been someone high up with a lot to lose if the true story came out. Just some of my thoughts.

Yes, that possibility has definitely been discussed. It seems very plausible considering all of the parallels between the two women, unfortunately there is just no way to verify it. It is very doubtful we will ever know what happened to Mary or Diane.

I agree. Too much time has passed now. All we really have are theories and speculation.

Has anyone ever written a book about these cases? It seems there is plenty of information and articles out there and so intriguing. Seems like it would make for great book material.

I don't think any books have been written to date. I think ncthom, who posts on this thread, is writing a book or a multi-chapter article about it. I believe he has interviewed some friends of Mary's about it. I'm not positive though, it's been a while since I read something to that effect. It's probably in previous posts somewhere on this thread if he is writing about the case. I would check it out, but I'm working now and don't have time to go through some of the previous posts. I hope he is..this case needs exposure.

Mary's case has been picked up by a number of different websites and bloggers. Below is one that I saw recently...

------------------------------------
The Case of the Missing Bride By Gerdeen Dyer

If Mary Shotwell Little had simply disappeared without a trace, she probably would be forgotten today.

She was not a mover, not a shaker, not a celebrity. There was nothing about her life that would keep a mystery simmering for three decades. But Atlanta's "missing bride" did not simply step into thin air in October 1965.

She vanished in an autumn haze of tantalizing clues: flowers from a secret admirer, a bloody car that allegedly had been moved in broad daylight, papers signed after her disappearance. Little even left a trail, stretching hundreds of miles into another state. ...

Thanks, MaryLiz. I did spend almost a year working on this project and interviewing Mary's friends, primarily from Myers Park High School and UNC Woman's College. I was overwhelmed by how strongly Mary's friends still grieve for her and feel her loss. Her friends were for the most part incredibly kind and generous in sharing information with me once they felt comfortable that I had no agenda other than trying to help move the case forward. I chose not to contact Mary's family but learned through one friend of Mary's family that Mary's mother was still living at the time (though with dementia) and that her sister still hopes for a break in case. Unfortunately, the draft of the article that I shopped didn't get picked up, and I've since moved on to other projects. But I continue to believe that by caring and doing what we can to keep interest Mary and Dianne's story alive, that we honor their lives and their memories.

A woman named Karen Smith on Facebook has posted some of the most interesting and revealing new information about both Mary and Dianne's cases that I've seen. At one point, I was given the name of an Atlanta Police Dept cold-case detective who I was told had been assigned to these cases, but I was unable to get a response from him. One of the most interesting pieces of information I developed, that I thought might be most useful to an investigation, was from a friend of Mary's from Charlotte who reconnected with Mary and Roy Little in the months just prior to her disappearance. Though he was vague on some of the details, he remembered Mary had felt sexually harrassed (though she didn't use that term) by one of her managers at C&S bank. Although many potential witnesses are now dead, I still believe these cases can be moved forward.

Thrilled to see Mary on the main page. This is one of my "pet" cold cases.

One of the most fascinating cases.... So many things stand out : husband would not take a poly. Huge coincidence that he was in training to be a bank examiner. Strange too that Diane actually lived with some of Mary's roomies.... I actually do believe that this case will one day be solved.

I'm going with the bank manager who found her car as being somehow involved. Terrible situation.

This article states that although they were married for a mere 6 weeks, the Little's were actually separated at the time Mary disappeared. I had not heard that before. Interesting.

Also Interesting is Mr. Little's determining that there was 41 miles on the odometer unaccounted for. That plus the "roses" (I read it mentioned that she did not tell her husband about the roses), makes me think Mr. Little was suspicious of her stepping out on him... I wonder if he suspected she was seeing a fellow banker...?

Perhaps his being out of town was a convenient alibi... all IMO of course.

It is nice to see Mary's case given some recognition and special consideration. She went missing almost 46 years ago.
