This area is rural North Georgia, approximately an hour northwest of Atlanta.

The Polk County Sheriff said four people are dead and at least one other injured in a shooting in Rockmart Thursday evening.

The sheriff said among those killed were two men and two women. Officials said the fifth gunshot victim was taken by air ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center.

Initially, investigators said six people were shot, but have since revised the number.

Two men and two women have been shot dead in a 'targeted' attack on a home and apartment just three blocks apart.

Police are now hunting a gunman after a fifth person was shot in the face in northwest Georgia and airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says the shootings occurred Thursday night in Rockmart.

Two of those killed have been named locally as 23-year-old Dadrain Cummings and Arkeyla 'Key' Perry, also 23. They are believed to have been killed at the apartment.

Police were called around 8pm to the first shooting. Upon arrival they got the call about a second shooting, 11 Alive reports.

WXIA-TV reports investigators believe the incident was related to drugs.

The sheriff says the two crime scenes include a house and an apartment, which are just yards away from each other.

Suspect has been named by authorities.

An urgent search is underway for the gunman who killed four people in Polk County on Thursday night.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the suspect as Daylon Delon Gamble, 27.
