Carrying a chair to her neighborhood Fourth of July party, Trish Gates and some friends shared their low opinion of the Cobb County father accused of leaving his boy to die in a hot SUV. When it comes to Justin Ross Harris, they no longer believe in innocent until proven guilty.

“Not in this neighborhood, baby,” said Gates, Of Lilburn. “We all agree he’s guilty as hell.”

On Sunday morning, though, Joe Lyle listened intently to the pastor at the Marietta church frequented by the Harris family. Lyle agreed people need to pray for this family, and while he believes Harris has “some issues,” he doesn’t see murder among them.

“I don’t think there was one iota of evidence against him at that hearing the other day,” said Lyle, 68.

All over metro Atlanta and beyond, in Twitter feeds and Facebook posts, people are talking about Justin Ross Harris, his wife and their poor deceased boy, Cooper. The father has been charged with Cooper’s death, though he has told police it was a horrible moment of forgetfulness. Since then, a string of developments, some jaw-dropping, have made for riveting real-life drama.

[h=1]Investigators re-create final hours of Cobb toddler’s life[/h]
The horrific final hours of young Cooper Harris’ life were re-created Tuesday by investigators as they continue to build their case against the toddler’s father.
Cobb police spokesman Michael Bowman said the department turned over Ross Harris’ SUV and Cooper’s car seat to investigators with the district attorney’s office who conducted the “heat test.”....

Reflections on the child who died in Georgia, and why I don't believe my parents intended to kill me
by Frances Coleman, al.com
Barring a confession from the Georgia man who's accused of intentionally leaving his child to die in a hot car, it'll be a while before we'll know whether Justin Ross Harris will go home a free man or to prison a murderer.

But here's one thing we can know right here and right now: None of us has any business declaring that we could never be so careless as to accidentally lock a child in a car.
Neurologists beg to differ. They say we could, and as evidence they point to scientific studies to explain how and why – even when it comes to their own children – people can be shockingly forgetful and incredibly careless. I beg to differ, too, but as evidence I can only point to the time that my parents almost killed me.
