GA GA - Theresa M. (Terry) Kopec, 27, Smyrna, April 1984

  • #61
Hello everyone, I just learned about this case, today, from a post on a Facebook airline site. I have never heard about it! I was a flight attendant for another airline, based in Atlanta, at the time. I lived in Marietta in 1984, but had lived in the Smyrna area years earlier, as a new hire. This case really disturbs me, as I could put myself in her position.

Question: Does LE have any DNA?

I will continue to check in here, and will ask a good friend, who flew for Piedmont, to see if he knew anything.

God bless you all who are looking for some answers, Terry looked like a wonderful person.

I came upon this forum tonight as I was searching for information and hoping for an update on Terry's case. I too was in the CJ class at KSU. I probably don't have any remaining notes regarding the case, but I promise to search my attic tomorrow. If I find anything, I will reach out to you, Livinia. It's a wonderful thing you are doing for your friend.

Hi, Sunbear,

Thanks so much for reaching out. The other woman who offered me her notes never got back to me, so if you do have any and would like to send them to me, let me know. I'll send you my address by direct message. We are hopefully making progress on Terry's case. An investigator with the Cobb County, GA,m DA's s office is looking into it and has a list of possible suspects... Stay tuned and thanks for your interest. L.

Hi, Livinia! I didn't see a direct message from you, but I am new to this forum and may just not know where to look. I am so glad to hear that Cobb County is actively looking into Terry's case again. I searched my attic, but unfortunately I don't have any notes from the class. Did you speak with the Professor? I believe he is still teaching and his email is listed on KSU's website. I know I never met your dear friend, but this case has stayed with me all these years...hoping for justice for Terry!

No, I only meant I'd sent you a DM if you found your notes. I did email that professor many month ago, and he never got back to me. Thanks for your concern about her case. L.

Hi Livinia! I also took Dr.Crowder’s profiling class in 2000 and I have never forgotten about Terry’s case. I have tried researching more online throughout the years, but always thought it was odd that there was really not much out there. I actually reached out to Jessica Noll (a true crime journalist/podcaster) last year suggesting she look into this case. She thanked me for the info, but I never heard anything more. I’m glad to see some renewed interest here!

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. Funny, I wrote to Jessica Knoll, too, and she did answer me but never followed up. Thanks for caring about this horrible injustice. Yes, this investigator is sincere and determined. I think she's gonna find something for sure. Stay tuned... L.

Hi, Friends, I have had some very good news regarding Terry Kopec's murder case. Someone whom I cannot name has told me that the Cobb County, GA, District Attorney's Office has submitted a grant to the U.S. Dept. of Justice's Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) program. My informant was hesitant to say anymore, so I don't know if the grant has just been submitted or whether it's already been granted and therefore evidence from Terry's case will be tested using advanced DNA techniques. Either way, it's movement and very good news. The informant is very invested in Terry's case and was really excited about this development, so, of course, so am I. If any of you has any way to glean more info out of the Cobb County DA's office, please do so and get back to me. L.

Ok, all of you sleuths. A name has surfaced in the murder of Terry Kopec. If you're a good researcher, I need your help. I think the man who killed Laurie Landt in Fulton County, GA, in 1983 (I think) is the same one who killed Terry, although both cases are unsolved. His name is Ronald T. Japhet and he died in 2016. He did 11 years in prison for the murder of his godmother in GA when he was 16 years old. Show me how good you are and find me info on this guy: where he lived, his family, and info from genealogy programs, all would be appreciated. Let's get rolling. Thanks.

Hi, Took me forever to catch up to you. I am devistated to know about your friend, sincere condolences!

Please contact me, I’m 99.999999999% sure I know who murdered your friend. FBI knows who he is and are doing nothing. He is a serial killer in West coast but did his eight years of schooling in the Midwest and back East. I want to use you and people to get his DNA profile on our own as authorities do not care, in CA anyway and FBI.
That sketch and description fit him to a “T” which I find strange they have that information.

Hello,

It's wonderful to hear from you. I live in South Carolina so I don't know how I could help with getting any DNA. If you want to communicate with me privately, please send a private message. I will give any information you have to the investigator of Terry's case. Thanks again. L.

Please note that Ronald Japhet turned out to be incarcerated when Terry was murdered. He could not have done it. L.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. Two minutes after posting to you I spoke to the DA on the Kopec case. I feel like she actually cares about resolution which I can honestly tell you NOBODY in California including FBI, cares how many people this man murdered.

Today is my first day on the WebSleuth site and I’m not sure how to private message?

Hello, again. Thanks for your quick work. I've spoken extensively with the investigator on this case, and, yes, they care very much. To message me privately, just click on my name where it's "clickable," and select "Start a conversation." You can then choose to keep it just between us. If you do this, we can then exchange email addresses. Thanks for everything you've done and I sure hope you're right. L.
