The family said the brothers had booked a flight to Boston for 7 a.m. last Friday but never made their flight. Just 24 hours later, they were found dead in an area the family said they had never visited before.

Including this last statement because I am still confused on the actual timeline of when family actually saw them alive vs. others possibly reporting vs. them being found.

Yikes. That will probably not help inspire public confidence in the way this crime has been investigated, if any old volunteer firefighter/EMT can just snap photos and share them without anyone really noticing before it's too late!

GBI: Volunteer firefighter arrested for sharing crime scene photos of twin brothers found on Bell Mountain

A volunteer firefighter in Towns County has been arrested for sharing sensitive information involving the death of two twin brothers who were found on Bell Mountain earlier this month.

Authorities have not disclosed how the images were distributed but confirmed that an investigation led to Kerlin’s arrest.

“It is very odd to us,” Rahim Brawner, an uncle to the brothers, told Now Habersham Monday, March 17. “We absolutely do not believe what they’re saying – that it was a murder-suicide with two twin brothers who are always together. It’s just unbelievable. That’s just something they would not do. (Authorities) were so quick to say it was a murder-suicide – the same day it happened – without a thorough investigation or anything like that. This needs to be investigated thoroughly.”

The brothers were scheduled to fly out to Boston to see family on Friday, March 7, though they were found dead at the top of Bell Mountain on Saturday, March 8, according to GBI.

Also not inspiring to hear that their deaths were deemed murder-suicide the same day.

This article mentions that the brothers were supposedly going to Boston to see family.

The family knows this and their language in the interview reflects that. Now I’m beginning to wonder if the car was perhaps a rental car from the airport? It’s pricey to do airport parking, most people Uber or get dropped off.

I’m leaning towards no foul play, but there are too many missing details yet to have a firm opinion.

If I remember correctly, rental companies require customers to be at least 25 to rent a vehicle.

I live in Blairsville, a neighboring town to Hiawassee and have been to Bell mountain several times. Until a few years ago nobody except the local kids knew about bell mountain. It was where the local kids went to hang out, paint the rocks and do what kids do (drink, smoke etc). The access road is steep and there are houses along the road. At the top there is parking and and a wooden staircase and viewing platform. There used to be cameras up there to try and keep the kids from painting on the rocks. I find it very odd that these kids would go there to commit suicide just like I found it odd that the last young black man would come to the area to commit suicide. I don’t think these boys came here on their own. I believe somebody took them there. Someone who is familiar with the area. JMO

I have to agree. Something feels off here. I just can't picture these young men who grew up/lived in suburban Atlanta going to the mountains in NW Georgia for a murder-suicide.

Based on the timelines, it seems like they probably would have died during the overnight hours? (Has anyone seen clarification on it? Has the medical examiner estimated a time of death or that they had been deceased for x number of hours prior to being found?)

Driving up there, especially mountain communities & roads, would be very dark at night & hard to navigate for someone not familiar with the roads. Lots of wildlife to look out for too. (My friend had her car totaled in that area by collision with a deer. There are also bears who could be out crossing roads.)

If it was truly murder-suicide, I think they would have chosen a place closer to home, not 2+ hours away in a different part of the state. There are plenty of other nature spots they could have gone to that would have been closer to home (Lake Lanier, Lake Alatoona, Chandler Lake, Arabia Mountain, Kennesaw Mountain, etc.).

And, one of the first responders on the scene took photos & shared them online? For which he was later arrested.

Yeah, something is definitely off. MOO. I hope the GBI is pursuing all avenues. My condolences to Qaadir's & Naazir's loved ones.

Unless they have their own full coverage. I got rentals before age 25 through my insurance company.

<modsnip: quoted post was removed> He saw dollar signs. Exploiting a terrible situation of two young men. He shared them to the public somewhere or to some people. He knew better or has NO sense of character or integrity in coming upon such a terrible scene to take pix, on his phone I assume. Stay there, do what you do, then let LE do their thing. Though I will say I have little confidence of that there so far.

A gate on the road inhibits vehicular access during off hours, but there are no other access controls. The remote area is not staffed or supervised and has no access to electricity, so no cameras or other security measures are in place, Towns County attorney Robb Kiker Jr. said.

Officials have been tight-lipped. The GBI has not shared what caused the initial belief that the brothers died in a murder-suicide or if that opinion has changed.

In 2021 they installed 3 cameras powered by solar. Unfortunately I don’t know where these are located.

this whole situation stinks and the idea that this was a murder suicide is ludicrous to me..why would they commit suicide? it's ridiculous. no way! someone lured them up there or something was set up there that went sideways...these kids don't know Bell Mountain...they don't hang out there..they were going out of town. so strange. mOO
