"The family of a Birkenhead man missing in Turkey have been told he was brutally murdered in a row over money – but said nobody would listen to them.
This weekend marks a year since relatives of Gary Burns, 39, who was working in the resort of Icmeler, last heard from him.
They have since been told by two separate witnesses that the bar worker is dead – including one chilling message on Facebook that claimed: “Gary’s dead, he’s in the sea”.
Gary’s brother Terry, from Beechwood, said they had experienced numerous setbacks when attempting to deal with authorities in Turkey – leaving relatives to do the bulk of the investigative work themselves''.

“She said on August 21 he was in the bar, he was drunk and they took him to a remote area and drowned him before burying him in hills near Icmeler.''

'Nine years ago, Gary Burns from the Wirral vanished after he moved to Turkey to start a new life. Today, on the anniversary of his disappearance, his family have made an emotional appeal for answers.'

'He had decided to start this new chapter after a holiday romance, and although it came to an end he had fallen in love with the country and decided to stay.'

'Terry, who launched a social media campaign early on, received a truly chilling message back in March 2017. Someone had claimed to be a friend of Gary's, and alleged that he'd been bundled into a car, murdered, and buried in the Turkish mountains, supposedly over a debt to his boss.'

'Gary is described as around 5ft 11in tall, of slim build, with brown eyes and dark brown greying hair, and an unmistakable Merseyside accent.
It's to be noted that he also has a small tattoo on his arm, and possibly another on his wedding ring finger. The last confirmed sighting of Gary was on August 5, 2016, at The Vodka Bar in Icmeler, where he worked.'
