Yes, Thoughtfox, he emphasizes meeting people at the dump--not the pub, the grocery store, or even the post office where they pick up, every day or two, a box or so of supportive mail.

A little too coincidental with the trips in PL.

And just when is Gerry going to go back to work, anyhoo?

It's not strange that Gerry went to the dump.

It's just really weird that he would mention it in an interview when he is Arquido in a murder case.

Perhaps he has read our comments about carrying garbage in his car, and he's trying to make the point that he even does that back home in Rothley? Just an ordinary day at the dump. It wouldn't surprise me if he said that on purpose to prove that in Portugal that "chicken bones and diapers fooled the sniffer dogs."

Many murder cases end at the town dump or the landfill - such as the Utah case when the insane husband murdered his wife and threw her into the dumpster, and they searched the dump for days until they found her.

But honestly - in most countries, doctors would not want to be seen near the local dump, for fear their patients would avoid them for sanitary reasons. This is just so whacko to me. ;)

I just don't get the hauling the refrigerator thing.

Here you have a man who has had his daughter disappear and is very busy, not only "looking" for her, but also starting up a media campaign and driving relatives back and forth from the airport. When did Gerry have time?

I'm sure the owners of the place they rented had hired hands for just this sort of chore. And was he so clueless that he didn't figure out it might look suspicious?

Sacked Madeleine detective's deputy Chief inspector Tavares Almeida seeks leave

http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,,2184275,00.html

Chief inspector Tavares Almeida, 48, was reported by the Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas to have asked for an extended period of unpaid absence usually used by police officers for studying or training. The reports emerged two days after Mr Amaral was taken off the case.

It appears that Mr Almeida put in his request for leave before the removal of Mr Amaral, with whom he reportedly did not see eye to eye over his handling of the case. It is believed that, following Mr Amaral's demotion, the national director of the Policia Judiciaria, Alipio Ribeiro, may be able to convince Mr Almeida to remain on the case.

In disarray. It certainly sounds like it.

Not a happy camp. :slap:

Almeida will be the THIRD detective to leave the farcical five-month long investigation.
Police spokesman Olegario Sousa also left, reportedly because he was infuriated by officers leaking information.

Just because you don't believe the McCanns killed this little girl doesn't mean the PJ don't have evidence. This is NOT a farcicle investigation, and you insult Madeleine to suggest so.

Calikid I can't believe you said that..

That does sound a little harsh. And it is not the first place I heard the word "farcical" (or similar word) used to describe the investigation:

" . . . "It's a farce," the friend said. "They were so distressed and distraught there is no way anybody could act like that. Nobody could fake it like that.". . ."

". . . . "It is farcical that detectives could make Kate and Gerry suspects without speaking to witnesses at the time," the friend said. . ."

" . . .The Sun, Britain’s biggest selling daily, branded the Portuguese investigation “shambolic.” . . ."

" . . . “The Portuguese police have led us up many blind alleys—this is the darkest yet. . . ."

I could go on but I think I have shown enough examples to illustrate that with all this type of talk in news media it is not so hard to understand someone would post a similar thought here on WS.

I am not trashing the Portuguese L.E. as I do not know if their investigation has been flawed or not. I am just tryng to show that the posting member had plenty of company in thinking and speaking of a farcical investigation without it being anything against poor missing little Madeleine whom we all want to see found.

Lets just wait and see what the P LE have before we start throwing daggers at each other, we all might be surprised, who knows.

No daggers from me. I want to "see what they got."

For it to be taking so long, they must have a ton of paperwork to go through, I just wish it was sooner rather than later, it seems to be taking forever, and all the while little Madelaine is out there somewhere dead or alive, it breaks my heart.

I think Gerry was talking about when he returned to their home in UK - He probably did no more than cut his grass and get rid of the clippings - it wasnt whil he was in portugal

It is a mute point but it does indicate that every sentance the Mccaans utter now seems to get disected and pulled - with multiple meanings learned - lots of nods and knowing looks etc - I suppose it the vacum that has now descended on the whole case - nothing is happening so people look for clues in everything

Thanks for the links Colomom, are we now going to hear trash being thrown to the British police as well? People forget so quickly that it was the British police that after seeing the PJ theory of the abduction was NOT making sense, when they decided to bring cadaver dogs, etc and then the parents were made arguidos. ALL of this based on the British police intervention.

A legal source close to the Portuguese police said that evidence gathered by officers in Britain led to Gerry and Kate McCann being named as suspects.

interesting articles - I highly doubt that british police would be briefing journalists in the middle of an ongoing investigation - it is not their style . I see no attributable quotes to anyone , just officers claim this and sources close to - which usualy means a bit of licence taken by the journalists - but who knows

It is yet another speculative scenario that could have happened - to go along side the other two dozen different theories .

All the more reason that if the police have something concrete - why are they all sitting back - why are the two top investigators on the PLE either being sacked or asking to go on extended leave

we need some movement here

I didn't see anywhere in either of the articles where the British police themselves have said they believe Madeleine was killed in the apartment. If it was there I missed it.

The statement seems to be from sources "PLE?" close to the portuguese investigation.
