Pretty sure defense witnesses will/would be impacted by media also, who couldn't be? Especially those who live in the area.
But I bet D witnesses will learn from watching States and know how to "curb" their testimony (as in NOT mention media!)

ETA- I THINK!

Im not saying it is right for either side. I think as a rule ALL witnesses should stay away from Media.

This witness actually backs up GZ's story...at least the one where he told LE that he got on top of TM's back and spread his arms out.

That doesn't make a lick of sense...but hey, it's one theory that this witness backs up.

Not sure if that's good for GZ or TM though. LOL!!

This is so dang confusing!

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but are you even allowed to base some of your testimony off something you saw on the news?

  • #264
This witness needs to stick with what she observed on the night of the killing - not what she later learned after watching the news.

She didn't observe anything, she came out after the fatal shot. Her credibility is null and void.

I really like this witness. Shes' doing a good job.

Really? Because she is testifying about what she saw on TV. Saying the bigger person was on top and that it was GZ. WE know that TM was the bigger of the two.

I would be furious if I was a juror right now. Expecting me to buy the testimony of someone that's basing their judgements off of what they saw on the news.

I was wondering if MC would be a witness.

Because I cannot give a link although I have heard this many times, I will say that, IMO, eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable. I see no reason whatsoever for this woman, Jane, to lie. I think she is telling what she remembers as being true. She was truly traumatized by whatever she saw and likely will never get over it. This incident (I think it was a murder, but that's IMO) has affected many people, and not just GZ and his family and TM and his family. I can detect raw emotion even in posts on the internet, by people who never knew or saw any of the parties. And I, myself, can get upset by statements which do not agree with my point of view in this case, where I normally am an even tempered, not terribly emotional person. Some think the injuries were serious, some don't. Actually, I don't.
To me, the most frustrating part is that we will never know for sure what happened. It can't be tied up with a neat ribbon and put away with a conclusion satisfactory for everyone, maybe even no one.
But I do think that these eyewitnesses are telling the story exactly as they think it happened, although they might be mistaken.

She is putting GZ on top. Ridiculous..

TM is the bigger of the two.

No he wasn't. He may have been taller, but "bigger" - nope! That boy was skinny!!

And of course, GZ's own words said he was on top!!!

I can't believe they allowed her to say she knew who was on top after she saw the news.

TM was 3 inches taller. *(5'11 158 lbs)
GZ was 22 lbs heavier. *(5'8 180 lbs)

So it depends on which factor you rely on for bigger.

*Statistics as stated in opening arguements.

Remove link.. finding better one.

This states GZ at 5"8 170 and TM at 6 ft 160.

So TM was definitely the bigger.. Especially with the hoodie. IT was big and loose making him look heavier.

He had a huge hoodie. It made him look bigger. Look at the surveillance video from 7 11. HE looks much bigger and not at all skinny.

I have posted a BMI calculator that shows Martin was not "skinny", but of ideal weight.

Yes, it's not like there was a stark contrast between the two (despite how the media tried to portray both of them in the very beginning).

Personal feeling is that State's witnesses have not been very strong 'at this point'. I would need more certainty to convict someone of murder, personally. And that attorney apologizes WAY too much, it is nice to apologize, but needs to be more comfortable with what he is doing, IMO

It may be the Defenses job, but they annoyed me, by asking that witness the same question, 6 different ways, but where I think they made a good point was when the witness said the person on the bottom NEVER moved, and so 'would she reconcile' that TM would have been shot in the back because he was found face down. I thought that was a good point based on that witnesses accounts.

I believe that TM was taller, but GZ was heavier. Which could be described as "Bigger?" Does height mean stronger, or does bulk mean stronger? IMO it depends on one's point of view.

Because of an eye witness statement,I most seriously doubt Trayvon Martin harmed George Zimmerman at all.

As an innocent bystander, she had no reason whatsoever to lie, whilst George Zimmerman of course has. I think he received his mild scratches by slipping on the wet sidewalk or grass ( onto the sidewalk ) and as another poster put forth, he had plenty of time to bash his own nose with that heavy flashlight before the police arrived.

I think perhaps a head butt injured his nose. No way do I believe it was broken and after it was cleaned off .., it appeared to be a tiny scratch o his nose and I failed to see the swelling.
