I tried to search too. I don't recall any confirmation of the tip. All I remember is GA buying it shortly before KC was released on bond due to fear of the protesters. I even looked and couldn't even find that information again. Does anyone recall if it was LP may have mentioned this story behind the purchase of the gun? I just know I limit my resources from postings & links on ws.

Nope, never heard anything about George purchasing a gun because of the protestors.

Hi JBean. :blowkiss:

I do not recall that Lee was mentioned as the one who alerted LE to the fact that George had a gun on the premises. And I do not believe we heard why or when he had purchased it until a bit later after it was confiscated. He bought it when she got out of jail, like on the 19th? of August? and I am sure that the registration must have been what alerted them to the fact he had purchased a gun. I think the Lee thing was all speculation and rumor...at least I never saw any "evidence" that clarified it for certain...

Please post a link to when George purchased the gun.

This might be why some think he had it because of the protestors

CONWAY: Yes, ma`am.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK. Are any weapons missing?

CONWAY: No.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK.

CONWAY: But he had a weapon that was confiscated.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: He didn`t have a weapon on Friday, but says he once had a gun which was confiscated a while back. I believe I remember him saying he had that gun for protection because of all the lunatics on his lawn.

On the thread about "all about george" I claimed that Lee reported the gun in GA's car. Patti asked me to source my claim. I'm trying to do that but have not found anything to support my claim other than a two page thread speculating it was Lee. I remember that there was an interview with someone explaining how the whole thing went down after the fact. It's possible I'm mixing stuff up based on my poor memory. I'm still looking for whatever I can/may find. And, yes, I did/do remember why it was a problem that a gun was at/near the house as KC was on house arrest then. Thanks.

I think it was in one of the larger doc dumps. But, I remember clearly that it was LA, as well. But, that is an IIRC.

DANG! You read six i seven hundred pages of stuff, thinking that you will remember all of it, then....

:waitasec: after all this about the gun tonight - for the life of me, I don't even know why we care about the gun anymore. I know nothing. I see nothing. I hear nothing.
I'm gonna be like those three monkeys from now on. :bang:

Not sure why we care about the gun, either.

GA is ex-LE, AND from the Midwest. He may have always kept a gun. If so, the family prolly always knew where he kept it.

I keep a gun, or two. My father had a dozen, or so, most of them hunting rifles. My brother has at least one. It was quite common, where I was raised.

What for the interest in the gun?

GA didn't have Conway for counsel in Aug 08. The quote you referred to was when Conway reported GA missing to 911 due to suicidal tendencies. This about the gun that was reported from a tip to be in the wheel well. Do we still have the vid of female officer looking in GA' car that night as I remember being glued to it and we all chewed that moment up. I don't remember anyone stating who the tip came from. My theory was it was the gun shop owner who had gA fill out gun registration and permiit to carry it.

maybe KC reported it...for fear he would use it on her.

I don't recall it being Lee at all.

This is a good example of how speculation evolves to fact and that's whyasking for links is necessary.

I am looking too woe.b.gone. I locked the other thread you bumped because we are going to have the same conversation going on 3 threads.

Agree!

But, IMHO. requests for links should be applied more uniformly.

Unless modified by "IMHO."

I haven't seen this discussed here. Who do you think notified the police about the handgun in George's car wheel well. I am thinking that not a lot of people would be aware of the weapon or where he was keeping it. I am also wondering if he had recently put it in the wheel well or if he normally keeps it there.

Someone in the immediate family - Lee or Cindy knew George had the gun and knew exactly where it was hidden.

Casey had been under felony arrest and was bonded out. There's terms and conditions attached to a bail bond. With a felony arrest, it's possible that having a gun on the property was a violation of terms within the bond (I don't know FL law on felony arrest bail bonds, but other states have restrictions).

George may have felt that moving his gun out of the house to the garage and to the wheel well of his car would satisfy the terms of the bond. But other family members (Cindy and/or Lee) may have been concerned on two counts:

1. that it would be a violation of the terms in the bond
2. because of George's quick temper

I think either Cindy or Lee voiced their concerns to someone and it was reported to LE.

I think the primary motivation for getting the gun out of the house was George's temper. In the first 24 hours after Casey was bonded out, George left the house and reportedly went for a walk. Lee got in his car and went to get him. Later we learned that George had a confrontation with Casey. That "walk" was likely related to cooling off after an angry confrontation.

My guess is that GA had it already (though, the wheel well wasn't the most original place to hide the thing) for the same reason why many people keep guns.

And, maybe somebody in the house got nervous, because GA was throwing tantrums re: the press and the protestors. Didn't want GA to risk getting in trouble. Called LE.

I doubt that KC would know which end of a gun to load.

She'd stand there, wondering why the .22LR rounds didn't fit right into the .38.

While she was mulling this, her phone would signal a text message, and she'd forget about the whole thing. ;-)

I'm not saying this is true/right or anything - but I can actually understand why he would have felt this way if it is true. I'd be pretty jazzed on top of everything else to have all those peeps outside my house - making noise and hurling insults - it would not bring out the best in my already stretched to the limit self.

We try but it doesn't always work out that way. :waitasec:

Perhaps GA was licenced to have a gun after all he was LE.
But I am glad it was confiscated by the police, because GA does not seem to be rational anymore.
I believe it was Lee who told them. but I do not really care who told .
I am glad it was taken.

A spokesman with the Orange County Corrections Department told News 13 they received a tip sometime between midnight and 1 a.m. Saturday of a handgun present on the Anthonys' property.

Having a gun on the property is a violation of Casey Anthony's bail. Casey was released for the second time from the Orange County Jail Friday
The judge who issued the bail said, however, since it seemed Casey was unaware of the gun, she will not be taken back into custody
http://www.cfnews13.com/News/Local/2008/9/6/evidence_taken_from_george_anthony39s_car.html

Is it possible LE reported (back in Sept 2008) that they were acting on a tip, since they didn't want to reveal at the time that they discovered the presence of the gun via wiretapping?

ETA: Sorry for beating a dead horse. Hope we all find out the truth some day.

General appeal to all posters! Please ask for links more uniformly.

Kageyk - you know you're probably right that I was picturing Conway talking about why he called LE when GA was gone all day and they were worried about him. Can't GA ever stay out of trouble? Thanks. :blowkiss:

I began keeping my own personal timeline on this case. That is, until about the end of March, which is where it ends.
In any case, these are a couple of the notes I have about the gun:
FRIDAY AUGUST 29
— OCSD learns later that George Anthony purchased a Taurus .38 revolver along with a box of ammunition from a local gun store on this day. The firearm was picked up on September 4th.
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5
— OCSD learns of George's gun purchase on August 29th. George picked up the gun on September 4th. Deputies and home confinement people picked up the gun in the early morning hours of September 6th. According to Richard Grund, he is the one that notified Casey's home confinement officer Don Bjoring about the purchase.

There is no link for this info. But, the dates will help anyone interested to google.
