Germany - Car Plows into Christmas Market in Magdeburg, Multiple Dead/Injured

A link with some images showing the street's layout for the outdoor festival.
They would've had some bollards/concrete barriers but apparently not enough, or else the perp was able to drive around them ?
Imo.

The youngest victim of the attack on a Christmas market in Germany has been named by his family.

In a heartbreaking social media post, the mother of nine-year-old Andre Gleissner paid tribute to her “little teddy bear” following the incident on Friday night.

Rest in peace to Andre and the other four victims !
My condolences to their grieving loved ones.

Death toll in German Christmas market attack rises to 5, with a 9-year-old among those killed

A little more info. about the past deeds of the perp :

His contact with CNN subsided around the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, Al Abdulmohsen began reaching out again early this year, sending a barrage of aggressive messages to the CNN journalist with whom he was previously in touch, which contained
unsubstantiated stories and claims related to his advocacy work.

CNN ceased direct communication with him, blocking notifications from him on WhatsApp and X. Subsequent messages from Al Abdulmohsen sent on X, including direct threats against the German people that were similar to those he made publicly, were not seen by CNN until after the attack.
Saudi Arabia considers the suspect a fugitive and requested his extradition from Germany between 2007 and 2008, the source said,
adding that German authorities refused, citing concerns for the man’s safety should he return.

Rbm.
So he was a liar as well, concocting claims to fit with his perceived injustices ?
What a way to treat the country that welcomed him.

Re. the last quoted paragraph & the bolded : What a pity Germany didn't deport/extradite him !
I know hindsight is 20/20 and all that....

There were red flags and at least four warnings (from above link ):

A second source told CNN the Saudis alerted Germany to the individual in four official notifications. Three of the notifications, known as “Notes Verbal,” were sent to the German intelligence services and one to the country’s foreign ministry. The source said all of the warnings were ignored.

If they had bid him farewell, Andre and the other four would still be alive.
This was preventable.
Imo.

Also from the link :

A 9-year-old boy and four women, aged 45, 52, 67 and 75, died in the attack, police said in a statement on Sunday.
May they all rest in peace. :(

It's interesting that right from the start the police were saying he was not on any watch list.

Yes, I noticed that as well.
Curious if nothing the perp said was outright declaration of violent attack, and so they couldn't legally keep an eye on him ?
Omo.

Thi Linh Chi Nguyen, a 34-year-old manicurist from Vietnam whose salon is located in a mall across from the Christmas market, was on the phone during a break when she heard loud bangs and thought at first they were fireworks. She then saw a car drive through the market at high speed. People screamed and a child was thrown into the air by the car.

The number of injured people was overwhelming.
"My husband and I helped them for two hours. He ran back home and grabbed as many blankets as he could find because they didn't have enough to cover the injured people. And it was so cold," she said.
Red emphasis mine.
Many people from other countries, backgrounds, and cultures -- living harmoniously.
Why couldn't Taleb al-Abdulmohsen ?

Instead he nursed his anger for what he saw as unjust treatment.
Not 100 % certain his rage was even justified.
Who was being treated badly; or was it his imagination ?

And of course nothing at all justifies murder of innocents.
Imo.
Hoping the death toll doesn't rise.

Twijfels bij (oud-)collega’s of verdachte dodelijk drama Duitse kerstmarkt wel arts is: ’Hij zocht eerst alles op via Google’

Ex-colleagues of suspected attacker Taleb Al Abdulmohsen, the Saudi Arabian doctor who drove across the Magdeburg Christmas market in a rented car on Friday, are openly questioning his working methods and the diagnoses he made to German media. ‘More than ever, we wonder whether he was really a doctor. He had to look everything up.’

German media spoke to former colleagues and associates of suspect Al Abdulmohsen after the tragedy in Magdeburg. Because there is clearly something they need to get off their chests. ‘We had serious doubts about his competence as a doctor for some time. We therefore called him ‘Dr Google’. For every diagnosis, he consulted Google. As if he had to look everything up,' they say.

‘In addition, there were also many misunderstandings about diagnoses because he spoke German so poorly. More and more patients therefore refused to be treated by him,‘ a former medical secretary says. She had to take patients’ angry phone calls every time.

A nurse who worked with Al Abdulmohsen for a time decided to resign.‘There were constant complaints to other doctors and superiors about Taleb Al Abdulmohsen,’ she says. An investigation, she said, never happened. The ex-employee does not have a good word to say about Al Abdulmohsen personally either: ‘He was completely disrespectful to female staff and slammed the doors in our face. When we asked questions because we did not understand something, he reacted aggressively.’

‘Al Abdulmohsen repeatedly endangered patients’ lives because he prescribed the wrong medication,' another former colleague anonymously told Focus. When colleagues complained about this to the management, they were sent packing.

Eventually, Al Abdulmohsen disappeared for several weeks. ‘We all thought our suspicions were correct and that he had left because he was not a real doctor. There was a lot of gossip at the time. But suddenly he resurfaced and went back to work. Until he went on sick leave in October.’

Colleagues don't understand what has got into him. But, according to them, that something was wrong with him was obvious. You didn't even have to be a doctor to see that. ‘Engaging with him, however, was not an option. He was not open to it.’

Since the attack, many colleagues are almost certain that he was not a qualified doctor and that he falsely claimed that title. By now, the matter will surely be part of the police investigation into Al Abdulmohsen.

 If he wasn't qualified, how come he did get the job? and kept that job, despite his many mistakes?

My initial thought was that he was *a doctor* on paper only.

He's as much of a doctor as he's an ex-Muslim...

How on earth is this possible in Germany?

Were there zero checks done prior to his employment?

SHOCKING

Green bolding mine.

What in the world ?????????
That is a terrible look for that hospital, or clinic -- the article didn't specify ?

The entire article is infuriating.
My goodness.

Background info: Germany has a council of ex-Muslims.
In Islam, apostacy is punishable by death. The same applies to homosexuality.
In Germany, ex-Muslims including gay ex-Muslims, can openly live their life of choice and organize themselves.

The following is a message on X / Twitter by Ali Utlu, member of the council of ex-Muslims.

@AliCologne Ex-Muslim | Atheist | Gay not queer | Human Rights & LGB Activist |

I'll say it again: many people who have had contact with Taleb, like me, deny that he was ever an atheist or ex-Muslim.
He himself claimed to be a Wahhabi. He had open contacts with Hamas people, as well as with supporters of IS.

He threatened ex-Muslim and secular associations, as well as women who had fled from Saudi Arabia and renounced Islam. The association and the women legally defended themselves against him. He attacked the Central Council of Ex-Muslims as well as me as a member.
All the major critics of Islam blocked Taleb because everyone received confused messages and threats.

He never directly criticized Islam or its associations. While we protested in front of mosques, he fought us. He also repeatedly defended Saudi Arabia. For what?

Dozens of people are sharing screenshots of conversations where he threatened people because they are ex-Muslims.
In one video, he talks about how “the left invented Islamism to wipe out Muslims.” No critic of Islam would write such nonsense.

We organized ex-Muslims openly say that he practiced taqiyya. If someone was as Islamophobic as him, wouldn't he try to kill Muslims in an attack instead of Christians at a Christmas market?

But the question of questions is: Why did the authorities not react to him, even though some people pointed out that he wanted to kill Germans? Why did they allow this attack to happen?

Ex-Muslims claim Germany Christmas market attacker isn't ex-Muslim, warn of bigger plot

Is Taleb really an ex-Muslim doctor backing the anti-immigration AfD and a fan of right-wing Tesla boss Elon Musk? Or is this what the attacker wants us to believe he is?

Would it be an ex-Muslim or an Islamic extremist who would target a Christmas market, and in effect Christians, ex-Muslims are asking. They are also asking if Taleb had put on the ex-Muslim garb just to facilitate his asylum or was it part of some bigger devious plan.

But first let's understand who ex-Muslims are.

A section of people leaving Islam prefer being termed ex-Muslim. Unlike religions like Christianity or Hinduism, Islam punishes apostacy by death.

Hundreds of thousands of people had to risk their lives, sever ties with family and leave their countries just because they chose to leave their faith -- Islam.

Some of the biggest critics of Islam have now emerged from among the ex-Muslims, who have gone and questioned the clergy on certain religious practices. Ex-Muslims support one another and have built a big community, thanks to the anonymity and safety provided by the internet.

Millions of ex-Muslims have renounced their faith clandestinely and live a double life even without letting close family members into this secret. Only a few influencers come out or are doxxed.

However, Taleb declared himself an ex-Muslim atheist, to benefit from it.

More at link. The view from India is an interesting read.

i made my trip to Berlin to see my friends and we decided not to go to Christmas markets this year. It feels like a deja vu of how it was during isis attacks in Europe where I did double think before going somewhere. Berlin had extra security at the airport and outside the airport . So did Sweden ( they carried huge guns) normally they dont use them.

There also was a lot more police at train stations. Now I am with family in the Netherlands. Where we also decided to skip Christmas activities outside.

And here is one of the biggest problems, checking on previous offences and qualifications even if who they claim to be is even them at all.

That part has me stunned. IF he wasn’t a doctor that here is a huge issue.
How can they not check references for having a doctor title?
I guess it could have been fabricated but even so it is problematic because how is it verified?

"Große Wunde in unserer Stadt": Hunderte gedenken Anschlags-Opfern von Magdeburg

T-Online, live blog:

Why the Magdeburg perpetrator was granted asylum in spite of his threats

14.40: The perpetrator of the Magdeburg attack, Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, threatened to commit a crime modelled on the terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon over ten years ago. However, a judgement against him at the time had no effect on his asylum proceedings.

This is mainly due to the sentence. Al-Abdulmohsen was sentenced to a fine of 90 daily rates of ten euros each by the Rostock district court in 2013 for threatening to commit a crime in front of an employee of the medical association.

According to a report in Die Welt, a spokesperson for the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) has now said that it is possible in principle to deny asylum to offenders. However, the legal hurdles for this are high. Convictions, for example for a small number of daily rates, could ‘not yet be covered by this’. A conviction of 90 daily rates is not noted in the criminal record; this is only the case from 91 daily rates.

BBM

Judges have been doing this for ages. They keep the convictions of illegals and asylum seekers low despite the crime, so as not to influence the asylum procedure. This form of two-tier justice is rampant.

A daily rate is a way to calculate the fine, in euros per day.

Täter von Magdeburg soll Arztzulassung verlieren

After the murderous rampage at the Magdeburg Christmas market, the perpetrator Taleb Al Abdulmohsen stands to lose his licence to practise medicine. The Saxony-Anhalt State Administration Office has announced that it has initiated proceedings to revoke his licence to practise medicine. The licence to practise will initially be suspended, according to the statement. ‘The prerequisite is notification from the public prosecutor's office that preliminary proceedings have been initiated.’ This has been officially requested.

The order to suspend the licence to practise is reportedly a provisional measure to prohibit a doctor from practising their profession for the duration of ongoing criminal proceedings in unclear or urgent cases. As the investigation into the Taleb Al Abdulmohsen case is still ongoing, the licence to practise will initially be suspended. At the same time, the revocation proceedings will be carried out. As soon as a court ruling is available, a decision will be made on the final withdrawal.

The perpetrator, who comes from Saudi Arabia, is in custody. He drove a car through the Christmas market last Friday. Five people were killed and up to 235 injured.

Would be interesting to know how TAA managed to qualify for this licence in the first place.
