A random thought. Any chance Liam is distressed about his brother getting married? People tend to unravel around weddings it seems.

I'm torn between this wedding blues theory and a fugue from some spiked drink. Who knows, maybe both.
I so hope Liam turns up hearty and hale, and that his future grandchildren will be asking their Uncle to tell them the story of how their Grandfather Liam turned the town upside down!

Knowing Melmoth’s posting style which is inclusive, I think it meant other than a specialty or theme bar.

And yes, men get rolled in bars. You hear about it most often in port towns with sailors, etc.

The St. Pauli piers don‘t have railings and it wouldn‘t be the first time someone being drunk fell into the river. But you never know...

I would imagine it will be pretty difficult to determine that he was pushed in rather than just fell in the water, though obviously if his body shows injuries consistent with being beaten up that would make it more likely he was pushed in. Even then, he could have wandered away dazed and just fallen in.

If this is Liam it all just seems so bloody pointless. Why couldn't the gang of mates have just stayed close to home and arranged a few special events such as quad biking, clay pigeon shooting or paintballing?

This has turned tragic if it is him....the disoriented state is puzzling.
I've been black-out drunk in my younger days.....a headache in the morning.
I've never lost my mind after.
What causes that ?

I think the police would already have CCTV footage and know a lot already. He may have crossed the wrong people, maybe buying drugs or something like that.

Just on the question of drink spiking, the police in the UK don't believe it's anything like as common as is generally claimed. Their view is that women are using claims of drink spiking to avoid facing up to how much booze they are actually consuming on nights out.

I'm not saying it never happens but if the police say that only in about 2% of cases does a woman's blood test show drugs she hadn't willingly taken, it really does sound as though the problem is down to the booze and drugs she herself has taken.

It would be interesting to know whether the rise in claims of drink spiking correlates to the rise in the amount of heavy drinking by young women.

When you go towards the river it is getting partially pretty dark and whatever he may have been thinking, he may just have gone too near to the water. Along the river there is almost nowhere any barrier . Unfortunately it does not need to be any drugs, many people are having bad orientation in general, then add drinks and a city he has no clue about and is quite larger than hometown.

Drinking more alcohol than you thought you did. Twice in my life I've been drunk to the point of blackout, both times in the safe confines of home. I'm not proud of it but I know that it was purely down to booze.

i had a blackout once after Jaegermeister consumption, i somehow react wrong on this - i left the bar without saying anything and luckily i went straight home. I did not remember anything next day and later i remembered something very vague about myself walking to metro etc.

Well that does sound as if he might have been drugged, or maybe something medical going on? He behaved like someone with dementia or Alzheimers, in the bar and also later in Buxtehude, if that was really him. Not saying he has Alzheimers but possibly other medical conditions can have similar symptoms. jmo

I once bought a miniature of Jaegermeister out of curiosity. Having tasted it I'd prefer to drink paint stripper next time.
