In the old town of Münster, a vehicle has driven into a group of people.

According to the police, there were deaths and injuries. The driver killed himself on the spot.

Police: Apparently no more suspects

The police assume that the danger has been averted.

No more suspects are being sought, says a police spokeswoman.

Several injured persons were in mortal danger. It is still unclear whether this was an attack. "We're investigating in all directions."

The Münster police describe reports of another perpetrator, who could still be on the run, as speculation.

A police spokeswoman said on Saturday that the investigation was still in its early stages. Several media reported that the emergency services were looking for a second perpetrator in Münster.

On Twitter the police wrote: "Please stop the speculation." And: "The spreading of rumors does not help us."

Was just going to post this. Today has been a day of remembrance and sorrow here. Now this happens in Germany one year after the attack in Stockholm. Coincidence? I think not.

The German news agency dpa has quoted police as saying the driver of the car has killed himself. Police in Muenster, a city in western Germany, say a large-scale operation is underway near the Kiepenkerl pub, a popular bar in the city’s historic downtown area.

According to the Münster police, the attack occurred at 3.27 pm. A VW-Bulli drove over the Drubbel in the direction of Prinzipalmarkt, then turned off with high speed in the direction of Kiepenkerl. There the car raced into the seats set up in front of the Kiepenkerl. There are supposed to be three or four dead, six seriously injured. The injured were taken to hospitals in Münster and treated there. The task forces are gathering at the theatre. There would be explosives in the VW-Bulli, special forces are on site and plan to defuse the explosives. Whether this is a terrorist attack is uncertain.


The car is supposed to be full of explosives. There is a rumour that the perpetrator or perpetrators wanted to set up some kind of explosives trap to kill more people. The police do not confirm this at the moment.


According to police, there are rumours after the incident in Münster that two more people might have jumped out of the van and escaped. But that is not a certainty and must now be verified, a police spokesman said.

According to information from SZ, NDR and WDR, the perpetrator is said to be a German who was born in 1969 and was psychologically unstable. Apparently there is no terrorist background. The perpetrator's apartment is currently being searched for explosives.
