Gilgo Beach LISK Serial Killer, Rex Heuermann, charged with 3 murders, July 2023 #8

One small anecdote from the predictable press interviews that made me think Rex would enjoy dismemberment.

Didn't one of his colleagues who spoke to the press relate that he seemed to enjoy talking about bear hunting and doing whatever you do do a bear after shooting it. She said Something to the effect that he seemed to enjoy grossing out his audience. Of course, she related this after his arrest...which would have applied a new filter on all of her memories. i think it is credible, though. It Just not might have been what first came to her mind about Rex Heuermann if she were asked before knowing of the arrest.

(Do people eat bears? What is the point of hunting them? Could it be a sport that some would consider animal cruelty?)

That woukd be one little clue that he could enjoy harming dead bodies.

''Accused Gilgo Beach killer Rex Heuermann reveled in telling underlings how he stalked and butchered animals — and staked out a business rival to the point where freaked-out workers began locking themselves in, a new report says.

Mary Shell, who worked with the hulking architect for several years, wrote in New York magazine that Heuermann liked to hire petite women — fitting the description of his alleged victims — and once referred to a client of his Midtown office as a “target.”
Shell said co-workers “described how he gushed about his bear-hunting trips in particular: baiting an area and lying in wait.
“More than once, he gleefully described the process of dressing the game, seeming to delight in grossing his employees out,” Shell wrote. “Once, at a job site, he spotted a client approaching and, speaking to my boss over the phone, said, ‘Target in sight.’”
''A year later, I was out of the architecture business and headed to journalism school while my former colleagues struggled with Heuermann. After I left, he had become increasingly antagonistic, attempting to poach clients from other firms and accusing them of doing the same thing. He and my old employer cut each other out of their respective projects. The final straw was when one of Heuermann’s employees quit and started her own company, renting space in my old firm’s office. This enraged him. Knowing they kept late hours, he was spotted outside the building, gazing up into the second-floor windows in the early evening. My colleagues’ minds went quickly to his gun collection, and they began locking the elevator and the doors.''

About that door that had to be replaced because of Rex's hulking frame (that presumably needed to get through a number of doors daily)? Happy faces daughter was moved by the fact the family needed to hang a curtain.

The door is from the bathroom where the floor was relieved of all of its tiles. The missing door can be seen in the distributed pictures. I don't believe that any floor was removed like the bathroom floor.

I think the bathroom before the search might be pictured in Rex's, eh, Andrew's tinder photo. The door does not look particularly big, but it looks commercial and new.

Also, in the mid to late 90s and early 2000’s he may not have had as much money and resources. He may not have had any private places where he could hold his victims, torture them over time and may have acted more out of necessity, after possibly stalking his victims and sleuthing out good areas and times to attack his victims. But, he also likely knew of and had access to vacant and abandoned properties where he could, store trash bags, weapons, containers, etc, kill and dismember his victims and then take them out and dispose of them in different areas. As time went on, he had more money and he had many private places where he could take them. I believe he evolved his sick hobby and his MO, over time.

You Are Right imo.
I suspect he knows their names. It's only a theory but:

The task force tracked down the identidy of Karen Vergata while hot and heavy on Rex's trail.

They found that he obsessively looked up the victims whose murders he was charged on.

They undoubtedly did not give all of his internet habits, just those relevant to argue for his incarceration without bond.

Once secured in jail, the Karen news is finally released. They knew for months!

For that reason I speculate they ID Karen while investigating Rex, and they thought ID her publicly, while he didn't know he was being investigated, could tip him off that he was being investigated.

I think Rex's searches helped them ID her.

If my theory is true, he knows names of other victims. And Karen is one of them.

Idk, if one has to use a code word, when a bear is in sight while hunting. But if RH mistook his hunt for people with his usual bear hunt, so it sounds like an accomplice could have been with him at other times (Gilgo Beach or other locations). Nobody speaks with themselves. The mention "target in sight" needs someone, who is listening to it.

Agree.
Dismemberment and plastic tubs, bags are way to get body out of home or apartment and into vehicle in small unsucpicious bundles. Necessity, not ritual.
Different locations because if you dump some parts on one trip, then go to different place next time so you don’t get noticed or caught.
Don’t think these are RH work, because of the Hempstead lake location.
RH wrapping up ladies in stuff looks like it’s for some kind of outdoor activity. RH just looks like he loading tent and stuff in manly avalanche, no one the wiser that some of the stuff is not a tent or fishing rods or telescope. He could have any story for being out there at odd hours-fishing, star gazing, bird watching. “Gee officer, I’m setting up my telescope away from town lights to see stars.” (Not that officers patrol this road).
He knows he won’t be observed on this road late at night because it’s literally road to nowhere except access to beaches. And as been mentioned, could look like a parks service in green truck & could probably blah blah about something to do with land surveying, erosion, bird nesting. Could have loaded ANY objects to his truck from garage and wrapped up not look suspicious.
—- 4 wheel drive access is permitted —- see below tho not sure what were rules circa RH.

Gilgo State Park is located on a barrier beach on the south shore of Long Island, with Atlantic Ocean and Great South Bay frontage. Access to the park is via 4 wheel drive only and requires a permit. The park is a carry in/ carry out facility. Spectacular views and tranquility make this a popular destination. The park is undeveloped. Anglers enjoy surf fishing in the Atlantic Ocean. Fishing is abundant in the fall during the striped bass migration. Anglers may also catch blue fish and a variety of salt-water species. The park is also actively managed for the protection of the piping plover and sea beach amaranth. Stewards monitor the natural resources and provide education to visitors regarding habitat management. Swimming not permitted.
Google:
Rex Heuermann was a seasonal employee at Jones Beach State Park in [the] summer of 1981 and from 3/05/82 through 10/24/84,” the department said ...
-.-.-
RH would have told everybody, that he himself was a "trouble shooter" at the beach and an expert, when caught during his visits to some beach area. Boastful as he is. IMO

You'll have to tell my mother-in-law that. She's constantly talking to herself. She claims she's talking to the pets. My partner does it, too. Some people do narrate their lives as though somebody's listening.

Jessica Taylor's torso was on top of a pile of scrap wood, having been wrapped in plastic sheeting. Valerie Mack was dumped in garbage bags. Karen Vergata's legs were in a garbage bag. The additional skeletal remains of Peaches were in a plastic bag, too. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that all the remains found quicker, not the stuff found on the beaches after the GB4, were left in areas known for flytipping/illegal garbage dumping. I don't think I've read anything confirming that, but it would make sense.

MOO
Apropos garbage bags: I think, it would also make sense, if the paper towels (brand??) were used for victims, who didn't stay intact and were packed in plastic bags or similar.
Which brand was it, that was searched for? Was it Bounty??

I do it myself sometimes, but not something like "target in sight". For that you have to be a bit schizo. ;)

Peaches' torso was found nowhere near Cedar Beach, where her baby was left. She was found in a wooded area of Hempstead Lake State Park. This map should show you a pindrop where that is, then you should be able to zoom out to show you just how far from Cedar Beach that is. (Cedar is just up the coast to the right from Gilgo.) Other skeletal parts of Peaches were found on Jones Beach near Karen Vergata's skull in 2011. Jones Beach is to the left of Gilgo.

^^
A similar fate Peaches and her toddler may have had.

I bet every young, petite woman who had any consistent contact with RH is absolutely freaking out right now. I know I would be.

The lives he's impacted, the loss, the suffering, the wondering. Unbearable, and who knows what the official account may end up being before it's all said and done? I'm so very sorry for all of the victims and their loved ones.

@3:15 very approx.- calm interview with cold case expert who makes a good point about the possibility of RH changing body disposal tactics. Suggested that maybe in early days, RH may have just picked up the girls on the street in his car, then dismembered them in case he was seen, then later possibly becoming more skilled and no longer needing to dismember them in order to avoid identification.

Is this the same restaurant that the former escort went to with RH, is it one where he usually brought the escorts, is it far from his family home and if not, could it be near that restaurant?

The steamroom is in Port Jefferson which is the north shore of long island and more east. Massapequa is south shore and west of port jeff. Yes this is far from the family home.

Don't you wonder how long he owned trucks? Perhaps he owned cars before the Avalanche, which comes with a handy, dandy factory cover over the bed of the truck. Could he have dismembered victims at first simply to dispose of them, then got the truck which would disclose nothing to any officer who might happen to pull him over. If I'm remembering correctly, officers sometimes can search if they see anything that looks suspicious but can't search without probable cause. So, anyone who owns a truck with a factory bed cover eliminates that.

Reasons to stop or do less dismembering:
He got the perfect type vehicle to transport intact bodies.
He had more money and resources- thus more private places to take his victims.
He had the use of burner phones.
He could arrange all of his meetups via chat rooms, internet sites like Craig’s List, Utopia Guide and Long Island Er()tica.

And the most practical reason: Dismembering is messy.

RW's date at the restaurant with the escort reminds me of this film, it makes me wonder if he had seen it.

Basically a guy wants to experience all that his g,f, went through when she went missing and learn of her final fate, he meets the killer who promises to faithfully recreate those events, which leads to the same horrifying end for him too.

Well i could picture RH getting the escort all wide-eyed and intrigued about the 'Gilgo Killer'' regaling her with tales of 'insider' info., and if he successfully takes her ''home'' - his 'pièces de résistance' is the moment he takes off the Clark Kent glasses and suit and they realize exactly who he is and what will likely happen next.
complete speculation, imo, fwiw.

''The Vanishing (Dutch: Spoorloos, literally: "Traceless" or "Without a Trace") is a 1988 Dutch thriller film directed by George Sluizer, adapted from the novella The Golden Egg (1984) by Tim Krabbé. It stars Gene Bervoets as a man who searches obsessively for his girlfriend following her disappearance at a rest area.''

''Three years after Saskia's disappearance, Rex is still searching for her. He has received several postcards inviting him to meet the kidnapper at a cafe in Nîmes, but the kidnapper never comes. Unknown to Rex, the cafe is directly opposite Raymond's apartment, where he watches Rex wait.''

''Rex makes a public appeal on television, saying he only wants to know the truth about what happened to Saskia. Raymond confronts Rex and admits to the kidnapping; he says he will reveal what happened to her if Rex comes with him.''

"TMZ Investigates: Gilgo Beach Serial Murders: Missed Warning Signs," and she describes in great detail how she spent an evening with Heuermann at a Long Island restaurant, 45 miles from where the bodies were buried.'''

''She says during their dinner in 2015, he asked if she was a fan of true crime, which she was. He then asked if she was familiar with the Gilgo Beach murders, and she said of course she was.''
Then things turned ... according to Nikki, Heuermann was not so much talking about the murders as he was bragging about them. She was so creeped out, she called a friend to pick her up.

When dinner was over, Heuermann asked her to come home with him, and she declined. Nikki says he got angry and she left.''

I do believe her story, at least in part. Just trying to understand how it works with escorts. Are they contacted online, have a conversation with a man, go to meet him in a public place, and then continue the "date" elsewhere, for money? She goes there to meet him, then decides he's too creepy, so declines his invitation to go back to his place. She considers going back to his home in her own car, then implies she would never get into a stranger's car. That part doesn't make sense to me because wouldn't it be just as unsafe to be alone with him in his home? I guess he thought since he bought her dinner, he deserved the full course meal, and he got agitated when she wouldn't go all the way. Another thing that strikes me about this guy is that with all his "dating", when is he ever at home with his family. Not much of a family man as some media has implied. IMO.

Edited to remove irrelevant sentence.

She seemed a lot more coherent and spoke with more clarity than an interview I watched her do with Nancy Grace. I do believe her story and I’m not trying to discredit her but she doesn’t seem 100% in a clear state of mind in some of her interviews. MOO
