I've been sitting with all of this new information all night. Some thoughts:

The reason Heuermann is sitting in a jail cell right now is because of Rodney Harrison. Harrison formed the task force within weeks of getting the job and then the task force had Heuermanns name within the month.

We learn today that one of the witnesses, who signed an affidavit, was taken to Heuermanns house along with Karen Vergata by a NYPD narcotics cop. Fun fact: Rodney Harrison is a former NYPD undercover narcotics cop. I know the witness says that they found Heuermann's house from a listing at the singers club but who saw that listing - the cop? Had he been there before? Why would this cop want to leave Karen Vergata who was clearly in distress according to the witness.

The moonlighting cab driver witness claims Heuermann tried to scam Shannan Gilbert and then she helped Shannan escape. Heuermann knew he had been seen and possibly requested the driver later on - telling her he was going to kill her. Was this after Shannan was murdered? Did Heuermann go over the events in his head and think this witness was the one who could possibly link him with Shannan? Heuermann had what appeared to be a police lanyard - fake or a trinket from a cop friend?

Shannan ending up at J Brewer's house in Oak Beach - rumors of it being a party house. Possibly swingers parties? Ex SCPD James Burke attended sex parties in Oak Beach. Heuermann said to be a swinger by multiple witnesses. Again, NYPD cop driving sex workers out to Heuermann's house and leaving them there. SCPD head Spota covering for Burke bungling this case for years.

NYPD/SCPD... Heuermann... Am I losing my mind or is there a bit of a pipeline starting to appear.

Come November, Rodney Harrison is most likely out of a job. The front runner for County Executive is Ed Romaine (R) and most likely will replace Harrison with someone who isn't a city slicker and also *looks* more like the politicians out in Suffolk - if you catch my drift. Harrison is the first black commissioner in the SCPDs history. He was also the first black Chief of Detectives in NYPDs 200 years.

I don't think I'm going out on a limb here by saying Suffolk County DA Tierney does not like Rodney Harrison. I'm very familiar with the politics around these parts. Tierney's office releasing a statement making it look like Harrison has gone rogue from the investigation when in reality Harrison is the one that got things moving in the first place for the very first time. Now we have Attorney John Ray and Commissioner Rodney Harrison telling potential witnesses they can come to them if they don't trust the SCPD/NYPD/Task force and then we have the task force and SCPD telling potential witnesses, no, only come to us.

Wow.

I am hoping I am wrong but, come November, this case may stall. I don't like any of this one bit. That and after this press conference, I am sure there are more bodies out on LI. I want to know which woods Heuermann told the taxi driver to take them to.
It does seem like something stinks and it’s not John Ray and Rodney Harrison. Is the commissioner’s an elected term limited position?

RM on Dan Abrams 10/18 mentions RH will not be the police commissioner next year.

John Ray on Banfield 10/18. Wish they had more time to talk, maybe he will be back on tonight.

Well, Harrison was never a part of the past corrupt SCPD or part of Spota’s crew but RM, he has a history Re: the old Suffolk County political machine. I know who I believe.

I have some concerns about Harrison choosing to stand next to John Ray publicly on this matter. Check out every story ? Yes. Appear to give credence to every story in a public way ? NOT wise, imo. I'll leave it at that.
The womens affadavits swear they have already given their information to SCPD. They never bothered to interview them.

So coincidental how strong incriminating evidence against Heuermann sat buried in files for 12 years. The witness who provided it was also frustrated that SCPD never followed up on it. Just one of many witnesses whose information was ignored and discredited, but DNA and digital data proved it to be true.

I have a feeling that further investigations of these new witnesses information will also validate their stories. Will it just be buried again after November?

Why was Asa Ellerups hair found on two of the victims bodies? Why does she have her own attorney?

Will anyone in LE continue to investigate all of Heuermann’s digital data to see if there are connections to people at Oak Beach? It’s not a stretch of the imagination. For a serial killer, Rex H was a very social guy, liked to join groups.

Theres a strong impression, JMO, that this investigation isn’t complete.

A stretch of highway at night.

The causeway connecting Gilgo Beach to the rest of Long Island.

Grass in the foreground with shrubs and water in the background.

The stretch of Gilgo Beach where the authorities discovered Melissa Barthelemy’s body.

During the 13 years this case went without an arrest, what chance would there be that the killer never tried something else like it? Would someone like him just stop at four? Tierney has seen all the suspect’s Web searches and has his own assessment of the man. “I would say that the interest and the obsession never left,” he said.

Tierney has announced he will try the case against Heuermann personally — a district attorney going into court to argue before a jury the most notorious serial-killer trial in a generation. All eyes will be on Suffolk County again. What happens next is a chance to make up, at least partly, for the years when this case was in such disarray — and Suffolk County’s law enforcement culture seemed all too willing to forget it ever happened.

I wonder if the NYT will take a position in favor of Suffolk County investigating all the new-ish tips that came in. Will they ask that SCPD follow up these leads and resolve the other cases of murdered women in the LISK group?

I'm very concerned at the DA's recent flippant remarks about Shannon's death being an accident, especially with no evidence of how that could have happened. It sounded like the same old rationalization without explanation. "We said this, so it's true. Now stop asking."

So, in this episode of LISK Podcast, Rodney Harrison says that Shannan's death was an accident.

The episode was released today and after seeing him at the press conference yesterday with information linking her to Rex, I am not sure what to think.

Perhaps the podcast was done before he had his meeting with John Ray? In much of the details about Shannan's death, I think Harrison can only go on what his police/detective force tells him. They've never explained the damage to her hyoid bone. Anyone at WS knows that's very important.

IDK. Some of this is starting to become political, so who knows. There are no "adults in the room" anymore when it comes to politics and civic responsibility.

Excellent post! I love your thoughts! My assumption to your last paragraph...Manorville

This is a great post, I heartily concur with a lot of it.

Not sure that any new County Executive would want to fire a police commissioner who has gotten results, we'll see.

Harrison's encouraging people to give information to Ray is just astounding, as is just the general appearance of Harrison standing there with Ray, all made the more remarkable by Tierney's rebuttal - there must be one heckuva disagreement going on between Harrison and Tierney, and I can't imagine it speaks well for their chances at trial.

Not much of a surprise that there might be some... complexity to the case, and if evil vicious pond-scum like Rex Heuermann is still entitled to a heads-up, I'd tell him to watch his back.

It does if you live in New York and are familiar with NYC. Especially in the 80's and 90's.

On these matters in the case, I defer to those of you who are local.

There have been non-fiction books written on the topic.

Today, its referred to as polyamory

Not being judgmental, but its not my thing.

The witness spoke of driving for a cab company out of Sayville, NY. That's not too close to Manorville, but it is close to Heuermann's house. I want to look around that area.

Just checked. Sayville is about halfway between Massapequa and Manorville

Yes, and he said they were going for a long drive to the woods. I actually live in Manorville, and moved out here because of how quiet and desolate it is. I literally live in the middle of the woods. Two of the victims' torsos were found in Manorville, Valerie Mack and Jessica Taylor. They are not officially listed as RH's victims, but their other body parts were found in Gilgo, and are associated with the Gilgo case.

Many other bodies have been found in Manorville over the years. Do a virtual walk through on google maps street view, and you will see just how perfect it is to hide bodies. For years I have been researching the Manorville connection to LISK. For someone to dump these bodies where they have been found, they had to have been familiar with the area. Hunter, law enforcement, etc. came to mind even back then.

That sure sounds possible, especially with the other bodies found there. There probably aren't many places where he could tramp around in the woods.

But is that the location he called the taxi to, or just where he wanted her to drive to?

I also have to give major credit to the taxi driver's dispatcher who it seems took control of the situation, called LE and started yelling at Rex H to get out of the car.

ETA: In the affadavit, the taxi driver says she was called to a little road off Ocean Ave, in Ronkonkoma. Actually, that's over near JFK. Any idea where that might have been? Is Ocean Ave also called Hook Creek Blvd? There are some streets off Ocean Ave that have areas of woods. She said he stepped out of some woods that were at the edge of a parking lot. Across the street there was a residence where people saw what was going on.
