Thank you for the insight!!I grew up on Long Island in Valley Stream and lived in Rockville Centre (also on L.I.) for a number of years. Ocean Parkway stretches along one or more "barrier islands and is one route that you can take to Jones Beach. It can be reached from the Meadowbrook Parkway, Wantagh Parkway and from driving through Long Beach. One would have to drive past Jones Beach State Park to get to Gilgo Beach - then on to Captree Beach, Robert Moses State Park and Fire Island. I have driven that route at night and it can seem very desolate. Click here for a map
My father was a seasonal employee (50 or so years ago) at Jones Beach and worked in the Jones Beach Police Barracks. Other jobs may be an attendant at the beach or in the concession stands... maybe even a maintenance worker. The beaches are one after another on Ocean Parkway with grassland, bush and sand dunes between them. They are some of the finest beaches in the world and are very well maintained. During the day in the summer, there are hundreds of thousands of people who go to the beaches along Ocean Parkway - on weekends, some of the beaches at Jones Beach State Park will be full and closed to visitors by 11 am. At night in the summer, traffic is considerably less and only the people who live year-round in the beach communities frequent Ocean Parkway at night during the late fall and winter months.
