I am personally sick to death of coming here to read news of what else may have been discovered only to see pages upon pages of posts criticizing his family and saying things like the report of cats being moved to a kill shelter a ploy to "pull on heart strings". If my pets were removed from a crime scene to a shelter where I wasn't sure whether I'd get them in time before they were euthanized and I didn't understand what was happening my being distraught over this wouldn't be an overreaction. There's no shortage of stories of innocent people's pets (or just innocent pets) being harmed by Law enforcement or neglected. I have some stories of my own with a friend whose father was murdered and they were not allowed in the apartment for days to rescue his three cats. LE and detectives were in and out of the apartment during that time and none of them even left WATER for them. It took heroic measures for her to rescue them and they were extremely near death and dehydrated when she finally forced her way in. Please leave this poor family alone. It's sick the abuse that's being poured on them and I'm surprised these posts are allowed to stay up.

I do not have animosity towards Asa. I am not criticizing her.

I do not think it is fair to accuse those supporting LE and their investigation as being hostile to the family.

I understand you have heard about a situation where there was no water left for cats.

That does not demonstrate that LE was negligent in their search of Rex Heuermann's home. Nor does it demonstrate neglect for the family pets.

Rex Heuermann is suspected/accused of killing 4 people so far. Searching his home was vital in building the case.

There might be alternative ways to handle our LE searches---other municipalities and especially other nations might put more resources into providing what is being deprived of the unaccused impacted by a lawful search. But that is not the way it is in the USA. Maybe we should change that. But at this time, there is no evidence that this family in particular was treated especially badly in a search. In other words, Asa and her children happen to live where a person suspected/ charged in multiple murders lived; they are not the first family that were in the position of being very inconvenienced by a lawful search.

I am sick to death of turning to this thread and seeing so much hostility towards LE's investigation, which has been successful and productive since the task force was formed. I for one am proud of their progress. I think that acting like taking the reasonable step of putting cats in a shelter is some kind of special horror the family has been subjected to is no more than an attempt to discredit LE.

I'm glad that Macedonia was able to locate the cats for Asa and her children. This has to bring some joy to the family in this otherwise horrible situation.

I don't imagine it was much work to get those cats home; likely only a matter of asking LE where they were sent for safe keeping and going to claim them. I can even imagine LE providing a form from the shelter to them for that purpose. The cat situation seemed to have been blown out of proportion by her attorney imo.

I fail to see how these can't be two separate things- Asa and family are facing trauma which included having their cats put in a shelter where they could not immediately track them down, a shelter that does euthanize animals, and LE and detectives needed to search and open up every inch of the house.

All these "I'm sure the cats were fine" posts are in retrospect. The family did not know that at the time and there are *many* real life stories of pets being harmed in the midst of procedures and investigations. It happens and I was a first-hand witness to this. Police are not infallible (um, hello look at all of the people who were in charge before this latest task force).

I understand that lack of more details and evidence being forthcoming these past few weeks creates a vacuum but why fill it with attacking an innocent family and denying the obvious trauma they are experiencing? Nobody is helping get justice for the LISK victims and their families by going after the suspect's family. That's not how justice works.

Nobody is attacking the family.

Nobody wants the family separated from her cats.

Some posters, such as I, call BS on the cats being brought to a shelter as an example of mistreating the family by LE.

And since it is a BS accusation against LE, it is discrediting them, not fair and constructive criticism.

Calling out a BS accusation against LE is not an attack on the family.

What a terrific interview with Sheriff Toulon and the interviewer was great too. He came across as being very transparent and illustrated how the Task Force is working together on this, and other, cases. Very informative!

I am a very strong supporter of LE. And a case of multiple deaths like this -- they can do almost no wrong. BUT cat litter boxes strewn???? Even if you have to check the bottom of the boxes, come on LE folks -- scattering it about is too nasty for your own crew to have to work in even if you are wearing hazmat suits. I understand the couch being ripped apart. Trophies could have been hidden in the cushions. As for the cats - where I come from adult cats are not easily adopted. I'd think if Asa wanted them back, they may still be with rescue and available to her.

I will say what others may not. It is my opinion only. Please consider the source. This is a person who filed a claim and is currently trying to receive a settlement. The best thing that could happen would be to learn that LE PHOTOGRAPHED that home as it was when they entered it because I believe maybe 1/10th of what I've been seeing. It seems to get more and more ramped up.

At this point, I don't believe anything that Asa or her attorneys are saying about what LE did when they searched Rex's home. Nothing negative, I'm just reserving judgment until more is known.

ETA: The reason I'm reserving judgment is that I'm still not certain of all of Macedonio's motives when it comes to his legal representation of Rex H's wife. I don't recall any other murder case I've followed where an attorney representing the killer's wife set up an aggressive legal and PR campaign to bash the police who arrested the killer, using the wife as a tool.

He's also doing this with the knowledge that LE can't respond without compromising their case against his client's husband.

Edited to add: Took my lazy fingers to google. Yes. Even the ones that claim no kill have rising healthy pet euthanasia rates. And they outsource it sometimes to move around statistics. Very depressing.

I'd like to see him swear to that in papers filed with a court.

In order to take that position you have to take what has been said to you as fact. I don't think that can be done at this time.

I also don't believe LE has a right to kick homeowners out when executing a warrant on their premises. Maybe someone in LE can check on this. If this is the case, there was nothing stopping AE from going to the home to take her pets out which begs the question: If she had no plans to be in the home during the search did LE ask her if she planned to come get them? And more importantly, if not, did LE OFFER to take them to a shelter for the duration of the search and did she take them up on this?

Remember too, they are trying to preserve evidence.

It's not that I don't feel some level of sympathy for Rex Heuermann's family, but I don't believe everything their attorney is saying. Rex's wife has actually said very little. I'm just waiting to see what comes.

Since the arrest of Rex and the searching of the home, we've heard very little from LE and the DA. They're the main source information about the case, evidence, etc. Anything new to be learned is probably going to come from them.

I think they can kick homeowners out in most cases. Especially if there is a risk to the evidence or a risk to the officers conducting the search.

Often enough, police will allow homeowners to stay in, say, the living room if they are searching the bedroom. Or they will retrieve a specific item or escort someone to get it. AFAIK, that is just a courtesy.

When it comes to the cats, I believe the phrasing was that Asa was not able to locate them.

Agree. They have made it worse for her imo.

LE asking her what she plans to do about her pets and if she has no intention to return to the home to care for them I could see them offering up the shelter and I could see her taking them up on it.

We just don't know. All we know now is that we have a claimant who is trying to make out a case for monetary damages and a potential settlement suddenly making a lot of statements about the injustices done to her. It doesn't sit well with me. And, as you know, I'm a lawyer for decades. I am appalled at the way Macedonia has handled this case. It's self-serving to the detriment of his client.

And, this is jmo. Others are free to love him.

ETA: And, all of this is in the midst of a quadruple homicide investigation that may eventually expand exponentially if other states are involved. This isn't about her.
