For some family this is a sad time. Prayers for them.

Waiting for LE to release names of any Persons of Interest. I'm sure they have already pulled the felony records for any and all parties that may be involved to see if such history is pertinent, and will conduct interviews accordingly.
Guessing the father is in for a violent crime and his family members may be similar. Getting picked up by virtual strangers in the middle of the night seems like a poor plan. Still trying to understand how things went south literally in a matter of minutes. Poor kid. Doubt this will have a happy end.

Another interesting portion of the WRAL article, BBM.

‘However, Desiree Pelletier said the family has concerns about the cousins’ involvement.

“How on earth are we supposed to be okay with these three boys saying this is what happened and then they change it,” she said. “Then someone lies about their name as well? How are we supposed to be okay and not go for the possibility of something happened to him?”’
I thought one was a woman?

Just a thought...
He called his mom within 30 mins of leaving. Something spooked him. Maybe the cousins kept him but tossed his phone and backpack along the route to make it look like that's where he got out. (How far away from his pick up location?) Made up the story about the altercation and where they left him - called his mom to sell the story of an altercation and leaving him on the side of the road, and also called the Grandfather to tell him the same story. (How long later did they arrive back home?) They could have done something to him at any point during their drive back home. He could be anywhere. Maybe Giovani's father did something against that side of the family to get him put in prison. Maybe this was payback. I hope I'm wrong.

I was wondering the same. Wonder what the father is in for?

I feel like every time a missing person reportedly "got in a fight" and "got let out of the car and vanished" its the excuse for being the last one to see them.

The fact that a body has been located breaks my heart. I wish they’d release the names of the “cousins”.

Thank you for creating a thread. I just saw this case on social media.

I can think of two main scenarios that could have happened.

I think LE needs to get a search warrant for the vehicle and his cousins/friends phones, and if they simply let him out of the vehicle and drove away, nothing suspicious will be found, and they can get their possessions back.

But every possibility just needs to be checked.

Sometimes people do behave erratically and take off for various reasons, but if that happened, he's probably out in the area where his backpack was left behind. If so, he might have wandered further away than they think.

All just my speculation at this time.
100%. If he was acting erratically, why would he text his Mom & then leave his back pack & phone behind? Just really strange. Why wouldn’t they call for help? He makes it all the way to his destination with apparently no issues and the minute he meets them, not a while later but right away this happens?? Or maybe he was acting erratic because something bad was happening and he was trying to defend himself or get away! He just looks like a good kid, nothin crazy lookin about him. If he doesn’t have a background of episodes then they will probably be checkin these cousins out real good about now-hopefully

Did he get out of the car without his phone and backpack. And the cousins took off not knowing they were still in the car, and then just threw them out down the road. Maybe he was having a bad reaction to the marijuana and got real paranoid??

Maybe he was scared of them. I guess the biggest thing will be COD and MOD. Did he drown or did something else happen?

That text will be so haunting for his Mom, I’m sick to my stomach thinking about it. (If they are his remains that have been found) IMO

So are the cousins REALLY his cousins?

I'm a bit confused on the location of everything as going off Google maps (I'm from the uk) Englewood is 40 odd miles or 1 hour 10 mins drive roughly to where the i-75 and sr-70 cross I know he wasn't found where they cross but even so the time doesn't add up ie he texted he's mum 30 mins after being picked up

"He was picked up around 1:30 a.m. by individuals from his father’s side of the family - people he had never met in person, only spoken to by phone.
During the drive north on I-75, an argument reportedly occurred. Giovanni exited the vehicle near State Road 70 in Manatee County and has not been seen since.
Shortly after, at 1:51 a.m., Giovanni sent his mother a chilling text that simply read:
“Help me mom. Quoted from the first post that's 21 mins difference now I'm more baffled

Law enforcement experts say the part of the story from his cousins about Gio's alleged erratic behavior isn't adding up.

"Adding that he pulled a knife on us and then he's the one texting help, I need help, that story's not going to stand up," Brostrom said.

And he says one way or another, the truth will come out.

The body had been found not far from where the backpack was located.

The body was found in a retention pond at the southbound off-ramp of Interstate 75 and SR 70.

This family is in all my prayers.

They're going to do phone work on everybody involved, talk to any witnesses, and they've got some great leads,” the agent further said.
