Hey.
Some members want a new thread when the thread gets too big.
We used to start new threads when a thread reached 1000 posts because some people had dial-up or older computers, which made a long thread hard to load. That should not be the case today, but I could be wrong.
I've invited members to join this thread and tell me why they want a new one when a thread gets long.
Feel free to jump in and give your opinion in this conversation.

I can't stand not having them broken up neatly every 50-80 posts like we used to. I cannot find information easily as I was able to, and these threads fly by fast. It's hard to keep up with and it gets overwhelming because of how fast this particular thread is going.

Maybe we could break the threads up into divisions:

My thoughts on the Missing Cases (based on the Nancy Guthrie case)
First & Early Reports and Investigation Stage
Found & Arrest Stage
Prosecution and Trial Stage

That way it won't be an endless thread like for instance the Suzanne Morphew case has become. We have so much important findings on our threads, in most cases, or at least we think we are important!

I also prefer having just one thread. I think it makes searching for previously posted information much easier. It also eliminates the discontinuity of discussions across the breaks. If someone posted something right before the break a lot of people wouldn't see it.

I adore the longer threads. I could never quote someone from a closed thread. Very happy with the new thread guidelines.

As for me - it does not really matter.
Several or one - it does not make difference to me.

But then,
I always follow in real time,
and never try to find info
looking for specific posts in ever increasing thread.

I'm just happy to check the latest posts and info

And my faithful phone doesn't protest if the thread is long.

I like the long threads because when there is a new thread, I stop getting notifications.


It will also probably be easier to go back and research an older case if it isn't broken up.

Though, it's an adjustment to see the page numbers get so big on popular threads. But it's an easy adjustment.

I think it'd be helpful to have one main discussion thread and specific posts on specific days. IE a mod could post "Arrest Made" and then have a sidebar visible with links to those different dates in the thread. I'd also LOVE for the thread to be searchable. But I just feel like having 1 thread is winning.

I appreciate the longer threads, rather than the ones that are broken up. I've been a member here for a while and am trying to participate more ... and finding it MUCH easier with the longer threads, rather than having to sort through multiple threads for one topic. Thanks!

I love just having one thread. My main reason is how much easier it is to use the “follow” feature and find the one thread you want to keep up with instead of the old way where it was easy to miss the new thread - to skip one or more of the new threads if they were fast moving. Also, when we had multiple threads being created and you were behind you might try to post a reply not realizing that thread had closed and then not know where your post went or where you left off. And finally because it is so much easier to find a previous comment when it is all in one thread than to sort thru multiple ones. I think leaving it all in a single thread has been the most helpful change made on WS since I’ve been here.

One thread is so much easier! I am curious though. How is it decided when to start a separate Media thread on a case? Sometimes it’s nice to have a place to get just the major updates, especially on a big case like poor Nancy Guthrie. Is this something that members initiate?
