WELCOME TO MARCH 2026
SUNDAY, MARCH 1ST, GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY THREAD.
I dropped the ball on the daily. My apologies.
Things are slowing down a bit.
Never in the history of Websleuths have we experienced a case that moved as fast at the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie.
By moving fast I mean posters posting. Within less than a month, we had over 40 thousand posts on one thread. Usually it takes decades for a discussion to get that many posts.
In fact, we decided to make a dedicated forum for the Guthrie case, but it is going to be up to the members to help us organize it. Please take a look and don't hesitate to jump in! CLICK HERE

Great News. Othram has launched its YouTube Channel.
Help support Othram and their great work.
CLICK RIGHT HERE to subscribe and like the Othram YouTube channel. They will be posting their first case soon.

What happened on this day in history? The Salem witch trials started.
On March 1, 1692, authorities in Massachusetts formally charged the first accused “witches” — including Tituba, Sarah Good, and Sarah Osborne.
If you go to Salem, Mass., you'll see that the good people in the town have made the witch trials into a fascinating look back at their history.
Here is a NatGeo episode about the trials

A kitchen dilemma for me.

First time this has happened.
The plug of my electric kettle is stuck in the powerpoint.

I did google and it said the plug may have got hot and melted into the power point.

Some suggestions were to turn all the power off and spray the plug and power point with WD40.
But that it probably means the whole power point will need to be replaced.

In the spot there are two power points and even if I can get the kettle out I don't want to risk using it again.

And yes it still works. It's just stuck.

So it's a new kettle on my shopping list.

Tootsie stay safe and don't mess with that kettle!

I have been struggling with insomnia for about two weeks straight now and I have to visit a relative in hospital today. I'm hoping the nurses don't try to admit me due to the zombified look I'm carrying at the moment 😂 if anyone has any tips to help me try to sleep better I'm all ears!

I'm so sorry you're having sleeping problems @SilentHill.

I do know how you feel. I sometimes wonder if people think I'm walking around half drunk when I don't drink. 😄

One thing that seems to work for me sometimes, is making appointments for later in the day.

I know not everyone can do that and I can only do it sometimes if I don't have to fit in with someone else's plan.

It seems for me, setting an alarm often ensures I'll get no sleep.
I give up sometimes and turn the alarm off and whammo within an hour I'm asleep.

Re the kettle. I'm not touching it any further. It's safely switched off.

Will get an electrician in to fix it, plus will get them to change some very high light fittings.

Hope you get some sleep soon ❤️

I'd turn off the breaker, then unscrew it so you can take it off and take a look at what's going on from the inside. NEVER EVER have I heard of a plug melting inside the socket! And if it DID melt, sounds like you have an electrical problem. I'd call in an electrician. You don't want your house to burn down.

I'm getting a sparky in for sure to have a look at the power point.

Ooooh, be careful! There are two things in my house that I won’t mess with: electrical and plumbing.

Have you tried melatonin or Tylenol PM? One or the other usually knocks me out.

Love the chit chat. We need to take a break from the heavy stuff that's for sure...ok here we go...
WELCOME TO MONDAY, MARCH 2ND. GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY THREAD
Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1904.

Yes. The man who made generations argue about green eggs was born on this day.

Fun fact: “Green Eggs and Ham” was written using only 50 different words because his publisher bet him he couldn’t write a book using fewer than 250.

I don't like eggs. I'd rather have Gregs. I hate my legs. I want eat taco bell and nap. Ok that's the best I could do. It's late.

National Old Stuff Day is all about…well, old stuff.
Bits and bobs that have been gathering dust for ages in your home, trinkets, and toys up in the attic, antiques and old electronics – you’re bound to have some old stuff knocking about.
And today is all about appreciating it. Because what’s better than uncovering something really awesome from days gone by?
It’s so easy to let things gather dust. If we don’t use them every day, some things can get pushed to the side and stay there.
And that’s not just the things in your home – technology advances so quickly, new toys come out all the time, new books are constantly being published.
In the age of new information, it isn’t easy to stay mindful of what built the foundations for what we have now. Today is all about remembering the things we sometimes leave behind.

3000 BCE

Early Repair and Reuse in Ancient Mesopotamia

Clay tablets from Mesopotamia show household goods and tools being repaired and reused rather than discarded, reflecting early traditions of maintaining “old stuff.”

Elizabethan & Early Modern England (1500s–1600s)

In London and other cities, specialized dealers sold upper‑class “cast‑off” clothing and household goods, making secondhand items central to everyday consumption among ordinary people. Growth of “Cast‑off” Markets

1995 Launch of eBay and Online Resale Culture

The creation of eBay provided a global marketplace for used goods, antiques, and collectibles, turning attic “old stuff” into a major online commerce category.

I made pumpkin bread with a wedge of pumpkin I found at the back of the fridge that was getting past its best. Does that count?

How appropriate.

I'm just binge watching Nicola White who mudlarks on the River Thames and other places.

At times I've found mummified chocolates in the back of cupboards.
I'm not really into chocolate.

I wonder if I could have sold that mummified chocolate on eBay :)

I have something from a pharmacy that I use sometimes.
I get a generic one which seems to work.
