No, the,” I see we have great taste” line.

Oh. lol

The next thing you will tell me
you are a fan of salted caramel, right???
😵‍💫
Aaaaargh!!!

They sell such 🍿 in our cinemas
Ummm......
My daughter sent me a big box of all kinds of chocolates. A variety of handcrafted brands ones.

They were all delicious and I'm not really a chocolate lover.
I've had chocolates go mummified, found them months later at the back of cupboards.

I had never tried salted chocolate. The words turned me off.
There were some salted chocolate ones and they were not what I was expecting.
They didn't taste particulary salty to me. They were mmmmmmm delicious :)

What I think is with the salted chocolate ones, the chocolate tastes more rich, more intense due to the salt bringing out the flavour.

A convert liking what she thought she wouldn't. Woohoo!!!! LOVE IT when people can change their minds about a food they've never tried!!!

Unfortunately,
I'm very conservative as far as my food preferences are concerned.

Veggies are veggies.

Only delicious fruit with cakes for me.
End of story 😁

🍓 cake 🍰 Ah Oh Heaven
the carrots get cut and sliced into tiny pieces and it usually has walnuts and raisins too- not bad but it usually has cream cheese frosting (and I do not like cream cheese)

There is that saying "don't knock it til you try it.

I didn't dislike salted chocolate. I mean how can you dislike something you've never tried.

I disliked the word salted next to something sweet like chocolate.

Carrot cake is my next favourite if a cafe doesn't have banana bread.

I hear ya, but some people do.

A couple of my kitchen gadgets which I thought something was wrong with, it's now looking like it's the actual power point.

Too late for my old kettle which went out with the bin collection. It may have been ok.
I may have missed trying it in a different power point though some appliances work fine with the same power point so it never entered my mind the fault might lie with the power point.

So it could be more costly than just buying a new kettle and sandwich maker.

There are actually two power points next to each other and the other one works fine so I might put off getting an electrician in.

If I get someone in I might get them to replace a couple of light bulbs,
I just don't want to climb up 13 feet to have a go at it. Maybe if I had a third hand I'd have a try

How many others care what things like kitchen appliances look like.
I'd never thought about it that much til those stainless steel fridges come in.

I think they look fine in food businesses.

I don't think they look nice at all in someone's home.

I'm fine with small appliances being made of stainless steel.
Or thought I was, maybe it depends on the design.

When I was looking for a new sandwich maker all the ones were stainless steel but not an attractive design to me.
The one I have now which I thought was faulty is white with a slightly curved design with a decorative motif on the front.

Also the new stainless steel kettle which is the newer model of my thought to be faulty one has lost it's curve and is now totally straight.
It doesn't appeal to me at all.

Any kettle I buy has to be stainless steel and totally plastic free not only on the outside but on the inside too.
A strip of plastic on the inside and I won't buy it.

Which means I have to go and look inside the kettles to make sure before I buy.

Anyway now it's looking like I won't need a new kettle but I still want to buy another one as a spare.

So I may have to go in a real physical store :)

GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY THREAD MONDAY, JANUARY 5TH 2026
There are only 354 more days until Christmas.
I hope you are all having and will continue to have a great day today.
One of the reasons I took over Websleuths in May of 2004 was to make sure that people knew they mattered. Your opinions matter. Your ideas matter. You mean something to Websleuths and to all the people who participate. Always remember that.
Ok, here is a really boring list of "This Day in HISTORY."

📜 Early History

  • 1531 – Pope Clement VII forbade King Henry VIII of England from remarrying, a key moment leading toward England’s break with the Catholic Church. HISTORY
  • 1781 – Benedict Arnold led British forces to burn Richmond, Virginia during the American Revolutionary War. On This Day

20th Century & Beyond

  • 1914Henry Ford announced a $5-a-day wage and an eight-hour workday for Ford workers — hugely influential for labor standards. On This Day
  • 1919 – The German Workers’ Party was founded in Munich, the precursor to the Nazi Party. The Times
  • 1925Nellie Tayloe Ross became the first woman governor in U.S. history (Wyoming). Wikipedia
  • 1933Construction began on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, one of the world’s most iconic bridges. Encyclopedia Britannica
  • 1968Alexander Dubček became First Secretary in Czechoslovakia, kicking off the liberalizing “Prague Spring.” Time and Date
  • 2005 – The dwarf planet Eris was discovered in the outer Solar System, influencing Pluto’s reclassification. Time and Date
  • 1896 – An Austrian newspaper reported Wilhelm Röntgen’s discovery of X-rays, revolutionizing medicine and physics. Time and Date.
  • Below is the picture of the first X-ray. How in the world did they figure out how to do that?

5 January

is National Bird Day

1767606045874.webp

National Bird Day is a holiday created by the Avian Welfare Coalition for the benefit of birds worldwide,
placing a spotlight on bird welfare and survival.
It is celebrated on January 5 each year.

It is estimated that almost 1200 bird species will be lost forever by extinction by the end of this century.

It has become very important that we begin raising awareness about the threats birds face by illegal trading, climate change and diseases.

Not sure if you've heard the saying... don't knock it till you've tried it. :) You are really missing out if you've never had carrot cake. Don't think savory as it's not a savory cake. I can understand not being able to imagine a cake made with carrots being good if you're thinking of carrots as a savory vegetable dinner side dish. It's honestly not at all what you're thinking it will be like. I would not lie to you about this! I solemnly promise. :)

I'll betcha a million dollars that I could sneak Dotta a piece of carrot cake and they'd be asking for seconds AND for the recipe! But to see the expression on their face when they get down to...

I appreciate your effort to try to "convert" me Dear Friend,
but....
I'm a lost cause hahaha🤣
Don't waste your energy on me.

I'm a Taurus after all.

Taurus is known for being obstinate.
This sign is unwavering and unwilling to adapt.
It is hard to change their mind after they have made up it.
Although their tenacity can be an asset,
it frequently comes across as rigidity.

Yep.
That's me!!! 👍

I only tolerate food that is accepted by my mind and eyes,
regardless of opinions of others.

I'm a simple person and I like simple dishes,
mainly those I ate in childhood.
Traditional, fresh, local and seasonal.
Polish cuisine, which I 💕.
I don't experiment in the kitchen.

It reminds me of my visit to Croatia
which is famous for seafood
- and I hate seafood - it makes me gag :(

There was a party with tables full of seafood 😵‍💫
I eventually found a salad with nice looking ingredients,
and was eating with enthusiasm,
certain the meat was ham
until....
somebody told me it was..... Octopus 🐙 salad.

Well,
my poor throat closed and I couldn't swallow.
I just couldn't :(

It is all in the mind I guess.
Psychological barrier.

But I love my simple food.
It suits me as I'm healthy & fit and have good appetite :D

It is important not to mess with food,
forcing oneself to eat something,
as it may lead to eating disorders which can prove lethal.
Just eat what you fancy and enjoy your meals 👍

:)

They are the most loyal friends :)

They value honesty, patience, and creating a safe, comfortable environment,
often going to great lengths to support friends and family.

Yes!!! 👍

Absolutely LOVING my comforts hahaha 😂

Is your kettle electric Tootsie? My cousin just bought one that’s electric and ceramic. She loves it.

@Dotta i too, like simple foods. Country girl here that grew up with simple southern country cooking. I don’t have a very adventurous palate. I’m not picky by any means I just prefer simple, traditional foods. The different regional foods talked about here aren’t at all appetizing to me for the most part.

My best friend was a Taurus, so I know how stubborn that sign is!

I’m not a huge seafood fan, but I did have calamari in Italy. But you can’t go by me: I had haggis in Scotland! And I do like carrot cake, especially with cream cheese frosting.

The only foods I absolutely will not eat are red beets, liver, Brussels sprouts, and asparagus.
