Can I say a heartfelt thank you to all of our Greek to English translators who worked exceptionally hard to help us navigate our way through the reports coming out of Greece, without which, I for one, most definitely would have struggled. You have all been amazing and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and in particular, in it from the beginning, @Patrick Jane

o_Oo_OOmg you guys were all totally right!!! I believed the police when they said he wasn't a suspect. Had no idea they used press releases etc tactically! Genius.

i am shocked and disgusted that this has played out like an absolute film script. The cameras. The subterfuge ... the dog!!! Jesus the man is a monster. Don't even call him a man.

i bet if he'd been shown a line up of men, he would have identified one and been fully prepared for that man to let him take the sentencing for him!

he probably googled home invasions and realised he could sort of snatch the idea of other break ins over recent time.

omg you guys have such good instincts. I believe too much in the good of human nature o_Oo_O:eek:

Exactly - her poor parents. Only 20 years old and her baby left effectively orphaned. What a tragedy.
I'm feeling more sympathy for the poor girl he murdered and how her parents must be feeling.

And that poor little baby girl whose life has been turned upside down.

He effectively orphaned his own child that night. He murdered her mother and then was left to look after her. Chills.

And so say all of us!

"She wanted my advice because she was a little anxious

Babis was very supportive at all and to continue her studies. They always came together and did not hide anything "

She had told me everything, she was talking about her happiness. She wanted to build her house, to house her happiness.

"Psychologists look behind the smiles and understand what is fake or true. Caroline had no problem, I say with complete certainty. She had no issue in her relationship with her husband."

I am not sure justice looks like an arrest... anything can happen. What does justice look like in a case like this anyway?
I think it's too early to tell. Since he confessed he might not get a life sentence and could be eligible for parole. I'm not sure how sentencing works in Greece or what exactly he is charged with.

My thoughts are with Caroline’s family and friends and baby Lydia. Heartbroken for all of them.

I think I would hide under my bed for the rest of my life if my son murdered someone.

You mean that you wouldn't lie to the police, hide a body under a deck, or destroy evidence? ;);)

Yes, the cause of death was said to be asphyxiation due to suffocation, but I was wondering if it was a word similar to asphyxiation that was mistranslated, since I thought you said it was a word that can mean choking, suffocation, drowning, or strangulation. Imo

I think that he mistranslated the Greek verb πνίγω which can mean in English suffocation, strangulation, drowning, or choking, depending on the context, because the Greek noun for asphyxiation and suffocation is aphyxia (ασφυξία), which is where the English word asphyxiation comes from.

Welcome to the world of cynicism and quizzically raised eyebrows. I love it when the police pull a fast one :D

Thank you. I'd also like to thank you for your many insights from your LE experience which you shared with us here, as they were very helpful.

The confession

Describing the night of May 11, he reportedly said: "That night we were fighting early. We fought again. She kicked me out of bed and I saw her leaving, throwing the baby in the crib. He would tell me to leave the house and he would hit me. I blurred and while she was still shouting, I went over her and closed her mouth with my hands and then with a blouse I closed her mouth and nose. When I realized she was dead, I looked to see how to cover it because there is also an 11 month old baby. I had no accomplice, I did everything myself and I tried as much as I could to make them credible ".

I wonder why he didn't even bother to ask for an attorney. Maybe he will get a lighter sentence now that he has confessed.

Skilled police interrogators are able to give a perp enough of a sense of security and support that it doesn’t occur to them to even ask. As true-crime-followers, we know it’s an important step, but many of the killers in these types of cases are naive, uninformed and often not quite as clever as they’d like to believe!

It was fascinating to watch. Like watching a Columbo episode in real time stretched out over 40 days. Nearly every day LE were telling us that there were problems in the robbery narrative, and there's was "just one more thing" . . .

Please may I ask, and I do so without sarcasm and I’m being totally genuine in my question but how have we as a society failed to protect Caroline in your opinion?
From day one, many people close to her, teachers, ex-classmates, even reporters, and random strangers, kept talking about her "perfect relationship", her "dream life", her "great husband", how she, at age 20, had experienced "things that others envy at age 40". Many people were quick to defend B, because he was "a Greek, a handsome, educated man, and he couldn't have possibly done this". They appeared happy on social media, they appeared to be living that luxurious, happy life, so there couldn't be a problem in their relationship. I kept reading everywhere "No way", "She would have told someone", "Such things (spousal homicides) happen only in the US, not here in Greece.". No one dared to say the obvious, that a 28 year old having a relationship with a 15 year old was wrong, from the very beginning. Even myself, it did struck me as odd at first, but I didn't give it too much thought. Don't let me start on the "therapist" and her whole involvement. Please, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to shift the blame here, he was the one responsible, and I wish more than anything that he pays for this for the rest of his life. But I believe that, if there was a different mindset here, there is even a 0.01% chance that she would have been saved.

Or like Poirot, making the murderer feel at ease and not like a suspect at all, and reeling them in, ever so slowly.

My good old hinky-ometer has never let me down yet, glad they got to the bottom of it and Caroline will hopefully now get the justice she deserves bless her.
My thoughts are with her child and family right now.

The cameras being disabled a while before her smartwatch recorded the murder isn’t going to be doing him any favours - shows enough premeditation for them to argue this was no ‘crime of passion’. Likewise, the dog and the staging will reflect an aim to pervert the course of justice. Hopefully they can add additional charges for these elements to maximise his sentence.

As an aside, I wonder how long it will be until Apple introduces a “alert my friend” function for sudden cardiac patterns like this that show a sudden spike then cease of heartrate. I’m sure data like this is going to be recorded more and more, and while an early alert might not always save lives, it could definitely bring LE a-knocking much sooner than most perps would like!
