I'd trust more reputable websites such as skai.gr, newsbomb.gr , lifo.gr and local Crete sites zarpanews.gr, flashnews.gr, cretalive.gr.

Athensmagazine.gr seems to be mis-quoting.

According to the article below, he has not confessed to a rape yet.

The following quote mentions that he has property in the area where she was jogging. Did he see her jog near the bunker or he has property near Afrata as well?

In the expectation of his lawyer, the young man has only given a verbal confession , which he allegedly claimed to have seen the 60-year-old woman joggle in the area where he owns a property, was irritated and, in order to immobilize her, car driving!

Nearly all new articles in Greek have the date of the disappearance wrong (July 4 instead of July 2).

Thanks! Does that mean that in addition to the fact that he inherited a farm near the bunker, he has land in the Afrata area? That would explain why he was in the area. I'm still curious which direction he was traveling.

If he has land in the Afrata area, I wonder if there's a hut or shed on the land and that's where she was held or assaulted after the abduction. This happened during the afternoon siesta, so presumably workers would have been off the property at the time - or maybe it's low season and there are very few workers at this time?

They found him based on the tire tracks and it was verified by his cellphone signal. He cracked during interrogation.

From the above article: "According to flashnews.gr, this is a 27-year-old from Kissamos, who lived in Maleme."

Isn't it the other way around? There's some confusion as to where he lives and where he owns properties.

ETA: It says "lived", so he used to live in Maleme.

I believe he’s from Maleme ( 5 minutes away from Xamoudochori ) and now lives in Kissamos. He inherited property where the bunker is. Someone mentioned several threads back that this is a person who has known about the bunker since childhood through exploration. Hit the head on the nail, it’s been in his family for at least one if not more, generations.

ETA: May also explain why nobody in Xamoudochori seemed to know about the bunker in their own backyard. The land was owned by someone in another village.

Maybe they put 2 and 2 together and got 5. If he doesn't own a property near Afrata, what was he doing there?

I’m sure as having grown up in the area, he was aware that the hike from Kolimvari to Afrata was a popular one. Even just driving back and forth one can see bicyclists and runners/ walkers every tourist season. I believe he set out to attack, knew those roads are more isolated and tend to have lone tourists, and unfortunately, Dr. Eaton was there at the wrong place and time.

That's interesting. He put her in the back of the truck after she was deceased? Where was she after she was abducted while jogging? I think it's a bit of a stretch to claim that she was deceased at the time of abduction.

He killed her at the scene, in his truck?

Here's the full sentence from the article:

Ο φερόμενος ως δράστης φέρεται να έκλεισε την αναπνοή της Αμερικανίδας βιολόγου και αφού την σκότωσε, την έβαλε στο αγροτικό του και τη μετέφερε σε άλλο σημείο.

The alleged perpetrator/suspect allegedly suffocated the (female) American biologist, and after/since he killed her, he put her in his (farmer's) pick-up truck and took/transferred her to another place.

He could have been doing anything. Gone to buy something for his farm, gone swimming, gone for coffee, gone to see a friend. Distances are short. In Greece people are in their cars all the time.

BBM. Do we know for a fact that he owned the exact property where he dumped her body or just one in the area?
If this was his property, he could claim that the tire marks were related to agricultural work.

Yes, but was it on his usual route? He is a farmer. Do they have time to lie on the beach and go for coffees?

Because it was off season, yes.

from the article:

He has inheritance/property near the place where the (female) American biologist was found dead.

(my translation)

the Greek word is κοντά, which means "near"

I wonder if he was there on a legit business/errand or he decided to stalk runners that afternoon. If the latter (as you suggest), has he done it before?

Someone with more knowledge than me with respect to predators. Do they usually impulsively act like this as in was he driving on an errand and all the sudden had the impulse to attack SE without much prior thought or planning? Or did he act on an impulse to sexually violate someone and then decided to go look for a victim? He was incredibly lucky nobody saw him the if it’s the former. Plus he happened to have a knife on him too. Convenient.

A news bulletin just said that he often felt the urge to knock women over with his car, which is crazy, meaning we're not even sure he physically raped her at all. He was quoted as saying "I saw her and wanted to knock her over, I often get this urge with women". I don't have a link for that yet. And sickening as it is, he ran her over a couple of times or more.

Very sick. I guess that answers it Indocolite! What a disturbed individual to say the least.

That, or he's been advised by his attorney to start playing the insanity show.

I've been following true crime cases for about 20 years, and that is one of the creepiest things I've ever heard. :(

stands to reason all the creeps, weirdos, murderers and kidnappers lurking out there will have the same urges time and time again before acting upon us

which is likely some oddball has glanced at one of us and had this kind of urge......

For sure. But the impulse to run women over is so bizarrely specific.
