DH did our monthly Costco trip this morning and was not particularly successful. No Lysol spray. No sockeye salmon. No cases of Perrier. He got peanut butter, Qtips, 2.25# Michigan asparagus, B12 vitamins. DH was able to return about 100 empty Perrier bottles (plastic), but glass bottles (beer) were not being accepted by machines. We didn't really need anything else. I still have about half a case of Perrier but will have to get 6-packs at Meijer until we can get full cases at Costco next month (we usually get 2 or 3 cases a month. I prefer it to tap water.

Dr. Campbell is saying that vitamin D is hitting MSM as to benefits. Put on your list prior to prices going up/short supply.

As an aside. Yesterday a neighbor texted me saying she left some plants on my front porch. I walked out a little later, and found those, in addition to an UBER eats pizza, ravioli. I had thought my friend had dropped it off as we are doing such for each other these days. Anyway, I learn after texting her thanks that it wasn't her. So I posted "who's food is this" on the neighborhood facebook page (I called the restaurant to ask, they said no info-contact Uber... and no way to get a hold of Ubereats.) Anyway, after an hour... I gave the pizza and food to others as too much for little ol' me!
My doctor has me on calcium 500 mg daily and it has Vit D-3 600 IU which helps your body process the calcium. I can get it thru my monthly Medicare allotment at no charge. There is 50 per bottle and when it was 1/2 full, I went ahead and ordered another bottle in my June order. I figured now that the Vit D connection is becoming more publicized, I better stay stocked up.

Crazy about the food order - I'd call someone to come get it - too many food allergies for me to even think about trying it. I bet the original customer was aggravated!!

fun fact - I've only had one sample in my life and that's cause I was dying of thirst
samples have always grossed me out
This reminds me of a time about 2 years ago, I was standing in the juice aisle reading labels. My daughter's latest allergy report had come in and I was re-vamping my safe products list yet again.

This woman who had to be in her 50s (like me) pulls a jug of juice off the shelf. Cracks it open, pours some in the cap and drinks it. Decides she doesn't like it, puts the cap back on and walks off. I don't think she noticed me at all she was so engrossed in what she was doing. I was flabbergasted. I walk over to the nearest employee and tell him what she did. He goes and gets the the bottle of juice, and after I describe her, he goes to find her. I was too busy to pay any attention if they actually found her. I was so grossed out.

Forget Clorox wipes, fireworks are the new hot thing

Sterling Heights — Forget disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer, fireworks are the new hot commodity during the coronavirus pandemic.

"It's almost as if we are a cure to the inside-the-home isolation," said Bruce Zoldan, CEO of Youngstown, Ohio-based Phantom Fireworks, a large fireworks company with about 80 stores through the U.S., including southeast Michigan. "If there's a virus called ... inside isolation, fireworks appear to be the vaccine."

Joel Klein and Felicia Wrobel of Warren load fireworks into their shopping cart at Phantom Fireworks in Sterling Heights.

Families are filling fireworks stores across Michigan to stock up for the Fourth of July holiday since many sky-illuminating shows are canceled this year to prevent large gatherings. The result: booming fireworks sales and, possibly, extra noisy neighborhoods...
My fellow animal rescuers who live in town are going to go bonkers, and for good reason. Fireworks is one more reason I love living in the country. I rarely hear them out here.

I went to the Bulk Food store today. We are really low on gluten free flour and are having trouble finding it in the store.

They give you a 1% discount if you wash your hands at the door. If you pay cash, they give you a 3% discount. Everything was spotless as usual. They mentioned if you’d like to sample anything, they’d be happy to help you. Fabulous customer service.

I washed my hands, put on my gloves and found everything I wanted and then some. My friend was equally impressed. Most people were wearing a mask but I was the only one wearing gloves. The owner was ringing me up and he said: Next time you come, if you don't have gloves, let me know. I’ll give you a pair to wear. He knows I’m a cancer patient.

I don't understand the discount for cash. Stores here prefer we pay with a card - and most cards you can tap or swipe yourself, then sanitize - so clerks never touch your money.

Went to our favorite local produce farm this afternoon. Got two hampers of pink eye purple hull peas, one of butter beans. All shelled and ready to blanch for the freezer. Also got some cukes and tomatoes for eating and a big watermelon.

what is a hamper? I get that it's a container for produce but what size is it? when I picture a hamper, I see the big picnic ones with handles - that would be a lot of peas and beans

I’m going to guess it’s a tax or banking thing. A way to report less income? Credit cards fees mean prices are higher.

Credit card companies charge the merchant fee's to process the cards. So some stores give a discount as an incentive to not use credit/debit cards. I've noticed more and more in diners/restaurants a sign up with a minimum charge on it at the register.

Thanks for sharing this. Most of the time, I get a 1# tub that is in a freezer at Salvaggio's. Sometimes they will have fresh chicken livers in the poultry showcase of meat department, or you can ask them to get them from their workroom. It probably sounds strange to have a craving for liver since many people do not like it, but I crave chicken livers or liverwurst occasionally and figure that it might be due to low B12 levels. I considered getting a chunk of Boars Head fresh liverwurst yesterday, but the deli counter was busy and too congested to wait in line. By the time chicken livers are available, I'll probably have forgotten that I wanted them :D

I love chicken livers- sauteed with garlic powder, salt and paprika with brown rice as a side dish: i indulge in that a couple times a year because it is so fatty- but i do love it: my husband hates liver---

A hamper is a container made of thin wood slats and wire that is cylinder/cone shaped.with a flat bottom and top.peas and butterbeans are brought from the field in them. If I'm standing next to one it comes about to my thigh.

I just googled "hamper of beans" and looked at images -- came up right away!

What we all suspected all along.....

Who bought all the toilet paper? Study suggests who was most likely to stockpile during COVID-19

Researchers from Germany surveyed 966 volunteers from 22 countries, including the U.S. The participants were asked to fill out a psychological questionnaire, to supply demographic information — and to provide details on their toilet paper purchases and consumption during the last week of March.

What most surprised the researchers was the similarity in responses no matter which country people came from, said study co-author Theo Toppe, a doctoral student and research associate at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany.
Toppe and his colleagues don’t know exactly why people hoarded — that question wasn’t asked on the survey. What they do know is which personality traits were most common amongst those who stockpiled.

When the researchers analyzed their data, they found that people were more likely to hoard if they were especially frightened by COVID-19. They also were likely to stockpile if they scored high in emotionality — that is, they tended to be more fearful, anxious, dependent and sentimental — and/or high in conscientiousness — folks who are organized, diligent, perfectionistic and prudent.

And while the study only focused on toilet paper purchases, stockpiling likely wasn’t limited to that, Toppe said in an email. “From our point of view, it seems plausible that our pattern of results — more threat goes along with more stockpiling — exists for other commodities,” he said.

Psychologist Neda Gould wasn’t surprised by the findings.

“This study tells us what we may have thought intuitively,” said Gould, a clinical psychologist and an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Sorry, i don't put a lot of faith in a study such as that: I am an extremely anxious hyper person and I was and remain scared to death of this virus but I never ever
thought of hoarding anything, let alone toilet paper. it never crossed my mind, oh gee i better buy tons of toilet paper (while leaving nothing for anybody else): I was gobsmacked by the toilet paper and towel paper shelves being cleared almost overnight. I think these people were selfish and just didn't care about anybody else. that is just my opinion of course, but that is all i have LOL. I still have no idea why toilet paper was at the top of their list!!!

Credit card fees are high - the discount means higher profits - we pay 3.4% fee plus $20/month - merchant account

We haven't been to Frankenmuth for several years, but I used to get a side order of Zehnder's chicken livers whenever we had dinner there. Occasionally, I would get the chicken liver plate dinner, but it was a large portion and way too much fat and calories. Haven't been to Mario's (Detroit) for several years, either, but they have a chicken liver entree, as well.

Now that we have been discussing chicken livers, I am thinking of buying some: i will have to check our nearest supermarket that usually carries them, Busch's- and see if they have them. they are frozen ----too bad my husband doesn' t like liver.
