I used to love Jr Mints.
Omg, could anyone use a little humor today? Do you remember the Seinfeld episode about The Junior Mints? LOL

No, I don't remember it--it made me laugh out loud! Thanks.

I think you’ll be ok. I just saw a news story (no link sorry) that some local turkey farms have been planning for their potential inventory issues for a while (more people staying home, less going out to eat, smaller groups = smaller birds probably preferred etc) they seemed to really be on top of things.

I hope there will be some turkeys left, I don’t have mine yet and am out of town so won’t be able to get it for several more days.

One of these years I’m going to grow my own. Hatchery makes you order 15 of them, that’s a lot of turkey for freezer camp.

No trick or treaters here but we never have any out here. Made a batch of salsa tonight. 16 jars should hold me for 5-6 months, if I don’t share.
Grocery store was well stocked today. Got some good deals on meat so bought what we could for the freezer, I should have everything to make tamales this year. Pork loin was $1.69/pound so we bought 2 big ones for tamales. That will make us go through the salsa pretty quickly. Got some more non perishables.
I have to drive 6 hours to a sister location every month, small town walgreens in TX about half way has had chlorox wipes every time I stop for snacks and restroom so I think I’ll start picked some up on my way through.
Oh my goodness, I love tamales.
Making me hungry lol

In between yard stuff today, I’m looking up recipes for plums. I have 5 big red ones and 6 little dark red ones.

I also have 4-5 bags of apples. I think I will bake those and freeze them.

I had found a gluten free crust recipe but I forgot to save it. I bought vegan butter sticks for it.

I picked up nutmeg and cinnamon. I had no idea Allspice was a combo of spices. Where have I been? I’m allergic to ginger so pumpkin pie spice isn’t an option.

Anyway, I need to practice before Tday.

Allspice is a separate spice rather than a combo of spices, I believe. From Wikipedia:

I have some ground Allspice but have had it for years. And I have cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves on hand too. I bought some pumpkin pie spice this year and then discovered I already had some... Oh well.

Farmers Market this afternoon! And it's a beautiful day in NC (had a cold start, though). They did move the hours of the FM up one hour, so it starts at 3.

That’s what I thought too! I read the itsy bitsy writing and it said two or three spices I recognized and then something generic like “spices.” I was like Nope! I have no idea what’s in that. I was looking at the store brand. Maybe I should read the McCormick brand.

This is interesting.........

What Is Allspice?

The name might suggest it is a blend, but allspice is a single spice made from dried berries of the allspice tree which look like peppercorns. The allspice tree is native to Jamaica, and it is also known as Jamaica pepper and new spice. It was documented by Christopher Columbus during his second voyage to the New World and named by Dr. Diego Chanca. The Europeans thought it combined the flavors of several spices and they introduced it into European and Mediterranean cuisines.

Substitutions for Allspice

If a recipe calls for allspice and you don't have any, you could mix up a substitute by combining equal parts ground cloves, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Conversely, if you don't have nutmeg, cloves, or cinnamon on hand, use allspice instead.

Thank you!! Now I am thinking the store brand must have their own mix and call it Allspice? It’s probably cheaper. We aren’t allergic to peppers so I need to find a true Allspice.

Sorry for omitting the Wikipedia info!

Allspice
, also known as Jamaica pepper, myrtle pepper, pimenta, or pimento,[a] is the dried unripe berry of Pimenta dioica, a midcanopy tree native to the Greater Antilles, southern Mexico, and Central America, now cultivated in many warm parts of the world.[2] The name "allspice" was coined as early as 1621 by the English, who valued it as a spice that combined the flavours of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove.[3]

McCormick has whole and ground allspice. The Spice Hunter has both, as well.

A side note, I noticed prices of items we routinely purchase has gone up 2 or 3 dollars. Not a big deal for us, but I can see that this could have an impact on spending for a lot of families.

Also, my husband wanted to buy some more ammunition the other day, apparently the price has increased significantly, like 4x what it used to be...not sure why this is. Sadly, he has decided that target practice for fun is not worth $30 a pop for just the ammo.

I have had to cut way back on my range time because what little is available is $$$. They are limiting us to two boxes so when I do women’s shooting league I just buy to replace what I use. We are also dropping our memberships right now because we aren’t using the range like we normally do.

We saw a huge jump in meds we routinely use, almost double the price in OTC stuff. I found some on Amazon for normal price and ordered what I could.

It reached 72* in metro Detroit today, and warm temperatures are expected to continue through the weekend. After a much-needed mani/pedi this afternoon, DH and I made our weekly trek to Nino's. It seemed incongruous to be walking into the store wearing short sleeves and flip flops while passing holiday greens that are already on display outside the main entrance. We usually purchase fresh greens the week before Thanksgiving - 4 wreaths for garage and front porch lamps, and a "drop in" for the urn.

Aisles are already being stocked with the trimmings and trappings for Thanksgiving dinner: Brining kits, stuffing mixes, cranberry sauce, jars of turkey gravy, pumpkin pie filling, baking needs, etc. Order forms are available for Thanksgiving meal pickups and/or fresh ready-to-roast turkeys. Holiday gift baskets are already on display throughout the store. I'm sure if I had taken the time to walk up and down every aisle and the floral/gift shop, I might have noticed even more signs of the impending holiday season. DH gets impatient when I "browse", so I refrained from doing so today :D

^^^^^ 'browsing' is something we did in the Beforetimes. Another fun thing bites the dust.

It was warm in TO as well.

A few lovely days ahead of us. yay!

I found real Allspice! It is the Bodia brand about $4 for good sized bottle. I will split it with my kids. I don’t think any one of us will need very much.
