I don't see that happening. People go in, get what they want, avoid everyone, and leave as quickly as possible.

we have malls advertising Santa behind plexiglass.... he takes off his mask for the photo

Kids will instead tell Santa what they want for Christmas from six feet away, and sometimes from behind a sheet of plexiglass. Santa and his visitors may need to wear a face mask, even while posing for photos. ... Santa's hours are also getting cut to give him a break from crowds.Nov 13, 2020

Here comes Santa Claus - with face masks and plexiglass

Yeah, why bother. "Here is your "treat" from Santa, a mini bottle of HAND SANITIZER!!!".

Just for kicks checked the supply of toilet paper online: Amazon is out of the name brands for the most part: Costco will not take online orders for toilet paper and Walmart states you can order online but you have to pick it up at the store. Here we go again. I was ready this time though LOL

confession: do not own a crock pot, but since it is a self heating pot, can't you just fill it with soapy water at the end of cooking, and put it on low until the soap dissolves everything? I do this with other pans... partial cool, add soapy water... 20 mins later, nothing is stuck.

I've never used a crockpot liner - I just wash the pot like normal and soak it first if need be

We decided to buy a condo. Interest rates can't possibly get any lower. Merry Christmas, Mickey!!

Good for you! Will it be much different from your current housing? Just curious... Condo living could be appealing. No exterior maintenance for one thing.

Will you be cooking Christmas dinner in the new condo? :)

Yes, Christmas dinner in our new place. :).

Thanksgiving is this week? Wow. So much for this year. Whatever.

The outdoor greens that DH and I got yesterday might be our only holiday decorations this year. We don't plan to do any entertaining, and we don't need to decorate for ourselves. I think there will be a virus surge following Thanksgiving travel and gatherings, and then again after Christmas and New Year's celebrations. It's difficult to engender any holiday spirit during this pandemic. Bah, humbug.

When you see all those millions of people at the airports- well, it just made me sort of sick cause we know what is coming.

The recent CDC warning against Thanksgiving travel came too late. Most people who planned to go home for the holidays already had their airline tickets and were not likely going to alter their plans. Sadly, I think we haven't seen the worst of this pandemic yet :(

Since this is the grocery shopping thread, let me share a Brussels Sprouts tale from my visit to Nino's yesterday. While DH and I were in the checkout lane - for the second time - he was unloading our cart from the front while I stood behind it. The older couple in line behind us (standing on their floor decal) had a small cart in front of them with several items, including 6 packages of Brussels Sprouts (about 1# each). I said, "Looks like somebody really likes Brussels Sprouts," and the woman started telling me how she prepares them: Cook a pound of bacon, then saute the Brussels Sprouts in the bacon dripping with chopped onion, balsamic vinegar, and some other ingredients. It sounded delicious! They are having 8 people for Thanksgiving dinner - probably children and grands. I hope no one has or gets COVID from a gathering that size.

Maybe the travel warning came a little late, but people have been told for weeks that small gatherings are in good part responsible for this up tick in cases. My hair stylist told me how he thinks five people in the shop got infected. Apparently someone brought in a dish to pass (maybe it was chili)- he didn't participate in this experience which is why he didn't contract the virus. Apparently the employees all got together, took off their masks, sat around each other and ate the chili. Not all the employees got the virus, but five people did.

The brussel sprouts recipe does sound yummy, but the family gathering, not so much.

So he had to test/quarantine too?

Anywhere indoors for an extended period of time with people outside my household makes me nervous! (Even with masks!)

The Brussels sprouts sounds very tasty!
Making me hungry lol

Good grief!

I'm not a huge fan of brussel sprouts but if my Uncle John makes them, I'll gobble them up!

Uncle Johns Brussel Sprouts

Clean tiny Brussel sprouts, check for worms and remove outer leaves.

Bring to boil for 1-2 minutes then scoop out of pan and drop in to a bowl of ice water, let sit for 2-3 minutes.

Boil unpeeled pearl onions in Brussel sprout water for 2-3 minutes then scoop out of pan and drop in bowl of ice water for 2-3 minutes then peel.

If the Brussel sprouts are large, cut in half.

Chop raw bacon into bits and fry, drain bacon but reserve drippings.

Sauté everything together (sprouts, onions, bacon) in a little bit of bacon drippings.

At the very end, add 2 tablespoons of honey. Stir until dissolved and serve.

Ran in to Publix today at 4:30pm to get the cream cheese I forgot. It was busy and most everyone had a mask on. Most people were distancing if possible. My girls and I went over the menu today and we can't think of anything else we need, thankfully.

Paper product aisle had zero toilet paper, a small amount of inexpensive off brand paper towels, most of the foil, wraps, baggies had a big dent in them. Lots of paper plates, napkins, tin foil disposable pans and turkey roasting pans. I bought Dawn dish liquid and laundry detergent. I'm low but not super low on either.

My friend and I swapped birds today. I feel much better. I could barely lift that flippin' 21 lb bird! Even with the 13 lb bird, I think we'll have way too much leftover. Fortunately, it freezes well and we can substitute it for chicken in recipes.

Holy Veggie Pickup! I just returned from this morning’s produce distribution. I will not be going to Wednesday’s because this is more than plenty for the 3 of us. Sometimes you only get a few items and sometimes you get a lot.

They included a package of precooked chicken leg quarters, milk and eggs. There is an orange, a pear and a couple carrots that are in rough shape. Otherwise everything looks great. Now we can finalize our Tday side dishes.

Now to figure out how to get all this in the fridge!

My girls and I are so very thankful. Our budgets could never afford this much produce in a week.

Oh my goodness!
Eggplant and avocados?
I love both but expensive here!
