A jacket has been found that has been identified as that of Cat's.

The article doesn't mention where it was found, though, other than the name of the town

Jacket found in search for Witney woman missing in Guatemala

The article mentions sightings of a blonde woman with a tatoo on her ribs and a guitar hitchhiking with another woman in the Lake Atitlan area, but Cat was not known to have a rib tatoo or a guitar

A helicopter is searching the area and a team of search dogs, guides, and searchers just left on foot.

I traveled to Guatemala and spent some time in Lake Atitlan. The lake is surrounded by mountains and three volcanoes. It is breathtaking. Tourists are there year round for various reasons and causes.

There are several villages or communities that surround the lake some rich with art and culture. There is also a lot of drugs and seedy types. I read the puppy was found at the top of a mountain, there are paths all around the lake. There are some areas along that are rocky, high, and dangerous. You could easily slip and fall down the cliff like area or even into the water depending on the path. There are beautiful over looks and certain areas tourists should not go alone.

Homes can range from elaborate to shack. American monies goes a long way in Guatemala. It is a third world country where many do not have running water in their living areas. I met indigenous peoples who lived in huts with no running water. They would urinate and defecate in their fields where their crops would grow which leads to the prevalence of disease.
There can be beautiful isolated homes tucked into the mountains to lakefront villas with hot tubs. In the city like area, there are shacks where numerous family members live together. Kiddos, dogs, and cats run rampant usually in groups. It is a polar divide of social classes.

Nonetheless, people talk. People listen. I think we will hear some updates soon. I hope that is the case.

I have included a few personal photos for reference.

Per February 28, 2019 Guatemala has a travel risk of Alert Level 2 ( Practice Enhanced Precautions) and Warning Level 3 (Avoid Nonessential Travel) depending on the area being traveled.

Here is some information on this Guatemala International Travel Information

We’re looking for drones to check a specific area not easily accessed. Call 51116072 if you are in the area (San Juan) and can help

A few pics of the area for context, so steep and not much up in those hills. Rostro Maya is known locally as Indian Nose.

I'm sorry to keep posting, but I feel it is important to put out correct information. Elena and Paco are 2 different people.

Elena Consolini is a female and was with Catherine in Guatemala. Elena breaks down the entire series of events on her social media account helping spread the word.

Paco Patchouli is a male and who appears to be a close friend to Catherine. He lives in Mexico, which happens to be a place where Catherine had recently traveled.

It is my understanding that once Catherine's family found out she was missing, they asked Paco to go to Guatemala and help look for her. He has been actively posting on social media, too, getting the word out.

The information was outlines in a newspaper article I listed above and can be easily verified by looking at their social media accounts. I hope this helps!

Thank you Bugurl747 for your very interesting posts!

I hope Cat is found today. Puppy and jacket found does not sound good (though I'm glad the puppy is okay). I'm very worried about Cat!

This is the puppy that was found on Rostra Maya

I'm really glad it was found and I hope someone gives it a nice home

If the puppy, which looks very young, maybe 8 weeks at most, was found at the place they think Cat was last at I just can't imagine that puppy staying there from Tuesday to Friday. That is a long time for the pup not to wander. But there are dogs and puppies everywhere in Guatemala wandering the streets. It is not unusual at all to find puppies on the street or in the fields. I've done a lot of puppy rescues here and we are inundated with requests to take puppies.

How far from the hotel was the puppy found?

I agree the puppy and the jacket don't sound good at all.

The Finding Catherine Shaw FB page says that drones, helicopters, and searchers left around 8:30 Guatemala time. I hope they find her safe and sound.

I wonder if she accidently dropped the jacket during the first walk and so headed out again hoping to find it when it was light outside.

If the beach was walking distance she might have seen the moonlight and wanted to play her musical instrument on the beach.
I’ve woke up lots of nights and headed out for the beach because of the moonlight.

How far was the jacket found from the hotel, does anyone know? Was it on the beach?

So far, the location of the jacket hasn’t been mentioned.

The photo shows it in some dry grass and brush that isn’t specifically a beach

It's about 1.5 miles as the crow flies, but with the terrain and windy paths (and uphill-ness!) it would be quite a trek

Cristilina's Beach is in the other direction, she would not have passed one to reach the other.
