LE is not obligated to be truthful. It is less about asking for help. They have an inherent bias when it comes to building a case; they can and do fabricate evidence. It is legal. The issue I have is when there is a vast difference in how investigations are conducted and the media is used. When there is a disinformation campaign to this extent where one does not know what to believe any more, it becomes dangerous. In the Alexis Murphy case, the FBI questioned how evidence was handled; a judge even noted that the police could not keep their stories straight. Now the smoke and mirrors involved in pursuing JM... Police who have strong cases do not resort to these tactics, IMO.

What I find dangerous is how easy it is for them to target, bully, or intimidate anyone on the margins of society and ruin lives in the name of "justice". Compare the media circus they created surrounding JM with this investigation from 2012 of one of their own. An Albemarle County officer was arrested after a "thorough investigation" for raping a woman who was compromised (not unlike HG) This investigation is near top secret, and the suspect's attorney, who formally interned with the County prosecutor's office, convinced a judge to block the media from the trial in fear of too much pre-trial publicity. Really??!?

This is when it gets dangerous IMO...as stated by the lawyer in the Alexis Murphy case observed of the LE investigation: "What worries me is they're going so overboard, if they can't find a crime, they'll invent one."

At this point, I do not even believe those "remains" are HG.

I do not believe everythiing said by MSM, LE, witnesses, family, or anyone. I do believe some things. There are people out there who are dangerous to others. They will assault, steal, rape, kill others to get what they want, or that is what they want to do In order to have some semblance of order and safety in our society, we do need LE, investigations, and courts. Hopefully, the vast, vast majority of times, our justice system works the way it is intended.

Yes, I believe thos remains were Hannah's. At this point, I beieve it is highly probably that JM turned Hannah into remains. I am not certain at all that LE has enough evidence for DA to prove this in a court of law. Until the evidence is presented in the courts, we won't know that. If I were on the jury for this case, I would look at the evidence and testimoneis and the cases giving the defendence the benefit of any doubt, and with the presumption of innocence. requiring the DA to prove his guilty beyond reasonable doubt. If it's reasonably possible that something else happened to Hannah, yes, much as I think that JM did do this, given what happened, I would find him not guilty.

I just tested my iPhone 5s, and the text message system autocorrects 'lmost' to 'most', not to 'lost.' I don't know which operating system I have--it's what came with it in spring of this year. Have people checked and found out that you can get an autocorrect of 'lmost' to 'lost?'

I don't remember that. When you say the lost text wasn't unusual to friends, did you get the impression that they were saying she may have wandered off alone before and got lost?

Something like that. The gist of it was her messages that night became increasingly difficult to follow and that this was not the first time friends had seen this in texting her when out at night on the weekends. It implied that what seemed unusual for us it was the norm for them. I don't think the OP intended this to malign anyone, but to me it explains why there was no sense of urgency when she reported being lost. Nor does it feel that they thought it necessary to otherwise intervene on her behalf even though they were expecting her at a party. My conjecture, as we do not know much of what went on with her friends that night.

Just a theory - possible some other misspelling of almost can be corrected as Lost but my understanding the auto-correct uses previous used words first. It seems that almost at 14th and Wertland might make more sense

Even without autocorrect doing the damage, is it really farfetched to think that if she was as incapacitated as we have been told that she seemed to be, that she could have just missed an 'a' and 'm' while trying to type 'almost'? I guess we will never know for sure.

I believe the thought is that JM was parked on Water St. LE seems to imply they have video of him in his car, maybe it's from there.

I think that's highly likely. If he went down Water away from Tempo, he wouldn't have had to go very far before taking a left onto Ridge...which changes names twice...but becomes Old Lynchburgh Rd, only one turn and a straight shot out of town.

If memory serves me correctly I only remember Water having a few stores...I bet there are only a few that would have had cameras along water....so if we walk water with the street view...perhaps we can figure out where some cameras might be...

I really believe that woman passes something to JM, and its suspicious. It's also strange that LE included this part of the video. I think they may have done that to get the women to come forward, just like WG did, since he was in the video, to clear themselves and give information on JM, since they obviously know him. But why haven't they been discussed much at all in the media?

IF they handed something to JM, I think this points to a larger ring or group of evil doers, but cannot imagine a motive to that.
Has there ever been a ring of people doing something nefarious, aside from human trafficking? It can't be trafficking, IMO, bc HG ended up dead.

Unless, as someone mentioned above, LE is hoaxing us all and that wasn't HG they found in the woods, so they can focus on the bigger picture.

LE considered something similar a while ago;
Now investigators don’t believe she was in that area at all.

“We don’t know whether it was auto correct on her phone or she just typed it in wrong, we have no idea,” Capt. Pleasants said.

He said police are now working with the Federal Bureau of Investigations to retrieve phone data that might show where that text was sent from.

Okay, I'm using my iPhone and siri as if i were HG and lost. I spoke this phrase to siri... "lost at 4th" and before i could finish siri cut me off and replied with "I don't know what you mean by Lost at fourth" then siri immediately said "I'd be happy to give you directions. Where would you like to go?" :thinking:

I tried it with a British Accent siri came up with this:

Here is something that I have been wondering......unless I missed something, LE said "she texted friends". Who were those friends. Could she have, in fact, texted Jesse Matthew if she was, indeed , meeting him? There are several assumptions out there of what made JM a "POI".....his car, the video, eye-witness testimony etc. Could she, have in fact, texted JM? To me , "lost" at anyplace when you clearly see the signs means, that, if she really typed those words, she was "lost" because she was in an area with which she was unfamiliar and she had a specific destination in mind. In my mind, (and I know C'ville and the Pedestrian DM well), no one (male, female, young, old etc.) would walk the route that HG took from camput to the DM and she HAD to have a reason for going there and , IMO, it was to meet up with someone because look at the time! No one is going to walk that far to the DM at that time of night (morning) because , even if she was of legal age,everything would be closing!

I hate to say this, but I think (as I did NOT think initially), that HG was meeting up with JM for some reason and that he told her that if she could meet him on the DM, he could give her a ride back to her apartment. Again, all MO. If the above hypothesis is correct, then it would make sense that he had HER meet HIM at the DM.....anonymity of behavior (except for those pesky cameras).

If this hypothesis is correct, then I wonder just what OTHER text messages left HG's phone earlier in the evening......perhaps texts to / from JM about meeting on the DM? Again, just a possible scenario. Back to my original comment......I'm sure that LE has the texts that preceeded the "lost" text and those prior texts may end up being quite significant.

Thank you for finding the link! It reminded me LE was also saying at the time of the video release, that the POI did not appear on any of the videos. We know that's not true. I still think it was all media strategy. I think they already had him under surveillance, because very shortly after they were executing the search warrant on his car. MOO. . .LE said something like a tip from a neighbor led to the search. I'm really not totally buying that. Pure speculation, but what if LE saw JM walk out of his apartment late at night and put something sparkly in his car? That would give LE probable cause to search the car. And if they did find Hannah's top, that would be enough to get the search warrants for his aprtment and phone.

Longo, at a later press conference, said that they now believe that they see Jesse Matthew in the video and that they "really did believe" that it was a reflection in the Tuel's video and they feel differently now thanks to people who had pointed it out. I don't think he was lying, IMO.

How is anyone to know what to think? Everything surrounding those texts are hush-hush. I kind of wonder if there isn't something there that's incriminating towards one of her friends in some way (not that they were directly responsible for her disappearance, but that there was some type of irresponsible behavior involved).

What I still can't get a grip on is why nobody missed her until Sunday afternoon? She seemed very popular, involved in a lot of groups, etc., etc. She's going from party to party all alone, wandering around in the wee hours of the night texting people that she's lost, and no one even knew she never came home? Very strange...

I believe these are all questions that LE have asked and probably have gotten answers to, but they are not about to share those answers with us. If we learn those answers, they will most likely be revealed in trial.
